The Best Comics Releasing This Week (Nov 20th-26th 2023)

The Best Comics Releasing This Week

Here we are, another week with great comics. Some might seem scary at first (mainly Power Rangers being in the 114th issue), but it’s simpler to get into a series than you think. Follow our synopsis and when you start reading the comic, you’ll realize it was no rocket science.

With the Fall of X reaching its end, we have another week of great X-Men titles. However, the most interesting books might be some of the indies. Void Rivals, for example, is one of the entrances of Robert Kirkman’s (yes, the creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible) new comic universe. Who wouldn’t want to be following the creation of something incredible and different? If you want to know more about it and all the other best comics releasing this week, stay with us!

Immortal X-Men #17

Release Date: Nov 22nd

Kieron Gillen was an important writer at Marvel years ago, so it’s great to see him back at the X-office. Immortal has been one of the best X-Men books in recent years, with an incredible character exploration too. Destiny and Cypher’s chapters, for example, are works of art. Simply incredible.

Now, it’s time for Jean Grey to receive the same treatment. Reunited with the Phoenix, she will bring change to the mutants lost in the White Hot Room (yes, this is a real place in the Marvel universe). Also, we will get a bit of Professor Xavier. He’ll abandon Krakoa and go to Muir Island. Will he uncover some of Moira’s secrets or something even more sinister?

Hack / Slash: Back to School #2

Release Date: Nov 22nd

Zoe Thorogood is at it again. She takes care of many tasks in this new entry to the Hack / Slash universe. She is the artist, writer, colorist, and letterer in the miniseries. Even though it seems like too much stuff (and it is), she handles it with perfect care. Not only that, but the elements are in complete synchrony making the comic even better.

Hack / Slash: Back to School is a friendly entry for new readers. While Cassie deals with her job as a “Slasher Hunter” and the traumas of her past, she joins a school for girls like her. In issue #2, Cassie will go on her first mission with some of the other girls. They need to investigate a mysterious series of murders in which kids bizarrely kill their entire families.

Uncanny Spider-Man #4

Release Date: Nov 22nd

This is the best Spidey book you’ll read for a while (at least before we get Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man). Spurrier nails it in the fun aspect; he knows Nightcrawler likes a lively adventure, and that’s how it feels reading this. At the same time, we have Mystique as a much more violent and unstable character. The comic is set on developing their relationship, and let’s hope they also get that right.

Spider-Man and Nightcrawler will fight Vulture’s new gang of villains while they also need to find a way to rescue Warlock, who has been kidnapped and used as a tool to make weapons. Also, this week, Spurrie promises to reveal some secrets! We wouldn’t miss that for the world.

Void Rivals #6

Release Date: Nov 22nd

Void Rivals is the first installment in the Energon Universe (of which Transformers is now part). Robert Kirkman creates a universe filled with war on all of its sides. Now is a great time to catch up on the series, as the next chapter is coming only in March (though if you really love it, taking it slow might be a good idea).

To end its current arc, Darak and Solila are close to escaping Zertonia. However, Premier Zalilak will do everything to stop them from accomplishing that. Even though it’s only a “normal” chapter, Kirkman can make it look like an event. The Energon Universe seems very promising and this is only the start.

Green Lantern: War Journal #3

Release Date: Nov 21st

Phillip Kennedy Johnson, also writing the new Hulk comic, has yet to disappoint. He brings an emotional and relatable dynamic between John Stewart and his mother that shows he really understands the characters. Also, Montos’s art and Adriano Lucas’s coloring make the panels even more perfect than they already are.

With Kyle Rainer (although a different version) and a mysterious and powerful new lantern, this is proving itself to be a treat for Green Lantern readers. Also, if you like how PKJ deals with horror, you’ll see it a bit in Radiant Dead. It’s infecting John and he doesn’t know how to stop it, only being able to slow down the inevitable.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #114

Release Date: Nov 22nd

Everyone knows Power Rangers, they’ve been part of our childhood, adolescence, and adulthood for some. The comics continue the tradition of being incredibly entertaining with a mix of dumb fun and interesting concepts. The title in question was written by Ryan Parrott, but after issue #100, Melissa Flores took over the project. And she’s bringing the rangers to their darkest hour.

In this new arc, the Rangers have to face a force corrupting them and turning them evil. However, the multiverse will bring them allies from some of our favorite stories. The HyperForce Rangers will join the battle, but everyone needs to be careful, as the Dark Specter has his eyes on Tommy.

Avengers Inc. #3

Release Date: Nov 22nd

In the middle of so many runs at the same time, Al Ewing started his detective mystery with Avengers Inc. Similarly to the current Fantastic Four, this comic is full of one-and-done stories. It’s such a good idea to have those now, as you have the tranquility of being able to pick it up any time you want and easily enjoy it. Also, as someone great at dealing with complex character lore, this fits Al Ewing like a glove.

In issue #3, the Wasp, comic’s newest detective, investigates how someone dead can die once again. Jane Foster, the Valkyrie, calls her and Victor Shade to Valhalla to uncover this mystery.

Giant Robot Hellboy #2

Release Date: Nov 22nd

Did you see the Justice League is fighting Godzilla and wanted Hellboy to do the same? Well, you kind of got your wish. In this 3-part-miniseries, a group of scientists transfer Hellboy’s mind to a giant robot version of him on a faraway island. They want something there, and our favorite half-demon is there to act as their bodyguard (probably).

While Hellboy grows used to his new body and fights giant monsters, the scientists realize their plan might not be as good as they thought. Either way, at least we’ll be enjoying some pretty over-the-top battles as they try to deal with their new problems.

Wonder Woman #3

Release Date: Nov 21st

Tom King’s Wonder Woman continues to bring Diana’s struggle against Sargent Steel. The writer has a pretty different background, as he worked as a CIA officer for almost a decade before going into comics. That allows him to have a different vision of the army in general, so it’s pretty interesting to see him using the comic to do a critical analysis of it.

Also, this week’s issue brings a novelty. We’ll be getting a story focusing on Trinity, Wonder Woman’s daughter. It’ll be the first of her many backup stories in this series. While that happens, Wonder Woman goes to the bottom of the issue and tries to use her lasso to find out the truth about the Amazon massacre.

Somna #1

Release Date: Nov 22nd

DSTLRY, a new publisher redefining creator-owned comics, brings us Somna. It’s a new series by Becky Cloonan and Tula Lotay. If you liked the previous run of Wonder Woman, be sure to check this out, as Cloonan was one of the writers.

Somna will follow Ingrid, as she sees her quiet village engulfed by witch hunts, a murder, and a lot of paranoia. A shadowy figure stalks her, but she still has to find out if it’ll bring her salvation or damnation. To make matters worse, her husband Roland is the chief witch hunter. The comic is described as a treat for fans of The Witch and Midsommar.

And that’s it for now, folks. Every week, we’ll keep bringing you some of the best issues you can read. Tell us what you think of them in the comments below!
