Movies And Shows Coming To Netflix USA In July 2023

Netflix is jam-packed with great titles this month, with blockbuster movies, exciting new shows, and fascinating documentaries that are making their debut on the streaming service.

July 4

The King Who Never Was (2023)

This Italian docuseries sheds light on the killing of a German teenager in 1978 through the accounts of his sister and the royal family involved in the case.

July 5

My Happy Marriage – Season 1

A new romantic anime series based on the novel ‘Hepburn: Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon’ by author Akumi Agitogi.

It tells the story of an unhappy young woman from an abusive family who is married off to an infamously cold army commander named Kiyoka Kudou. Maya believes she will be rejected and left to die on the streets as her parents intended. But contrary to everybody’s expectations, Maya’s betrothal gives her the opportunity to both find love and stop hating herself.

WHAM! (2023)

80s pop duo WHAM, which consisted of George Michael and Andrew Ridgely, were responsible for some of the best-loved tracks of that decade. This new documentary tells the story of the duo’s success through the use of never-before-seen videos and rare interviews with the two megastars.

July 6

Gold Brick (2023)

French comedy about a vengeful factory worker who traffics luxury perfumes from under his employer’s nose so he can profit from his thankless job and bring down the most powerful dynasty in town.

July 7

Seasons (2023)

In this Filipino drama, two best friends look for love again after a string of failed relationships. But as they embark on this quest to ‘find the one,’ there is a chance they might find love with each other.

The Out-Laws (2023)

What do you do when your in-laws are also the out-laws? That’s the premise of this comedy movie about a straitlaced bank manager named Owen Browning (Adam Devine) who thinks his future in-laws might just be the people who have recently robbed his bank.

Nina Dobrev stars as the love of Owen’s life, and Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin star as the in-laws who may be the infamous out-laws of the title.

July 8

65 (2023)

From Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (the writers of A Quiet Place), comes this recent sci-fi thriller starring Adam Driver as a pilot who crashes lands on Earth millions of years in the past at a time when the planet is populated by dinosaurs! He must make his way through a dangerous terrain riddled with these prehistoric creatures in an epic fight for survival.

The Tutor (2023)

Garrett Hedlund and Stranger Things actor Noah Shnapp star in this thriller about a highly-sought after tutor whose life is thrown into disarray when his new student takes an unhealthy interest in his personal life.

July 11

Nineteen to Twenty – Season 1

South Korean reality series that follows a group of young adults as they enjoy their last week of being 19 together before they transition into their 20s. As part of their transitional journey, they attend ’19 school,’ where they take in useful life lessons that will aid their journey into adulthood.

July 12

Mr. Car and the Knights Templar (2023)

Based on the novel by Zbigniew Nienacki, this Polish adventure movie tells the story of Mr. Car, a well-known art historian and treasure hunter, who stumbles upon a Templar treasure that could upset the balance between good and evil in the world.

July 13

Burn The House Down – Season 1

This new Japanese drama series, based on the Manga of the same name, follows a young woman named Anzu Murata whose childhood was torn apart when her family home burned down and her parents divorced.

Years after this event, she goes undercover as a housekeeper to discover the truth about the suspicious woman who married her father in the wake of the blaze.

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish (2022)

When Puss in Boots realizes his adventures have caused him to burn through 8 of his 9 lives, he launches an epic journey to restore them by finding the mythical ‘Last Wish.’

Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots), Salma Hayek (Kitty Softpaws), and Florence Pugh (Goldilocks) are among the voice cast of this superior sequel to the 2011 Shrek spin-off.

Survival of the Thickest – Season 1

Michelle Buteau stars in this new series that is inspired by her autobiographical book of essays of the same name. Here’s the official synopsis:

“Survival of the Thickest centres on Mavis Beaumont. Black, plus-size and newly single, Mavis unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life after putting all her eggs in one man’s basket, but she’s determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss.”

July 14

Bird Box Barcelona (2023)

Bird Box Barcelona is a spin-off to the 2018 Netflix movie Bird Box, which starred Sandra Bullock.

That previous title didn’t tell the story of a woman and the sacrifices she went through to feed the birds in her neighbourhood! It was a post-apocalyptic chiller about one woman’s battle to protect her family from a mysterious force that caused anybody who set their eyes on it to take their own lives.

This new film is set during the same timeline as the original movie and follows a man named Sebastian and his young daughter Anna as they try to survive the unseen threat that is taking over the lives of the people in their city.

July 19

The (Almost) Legends (2023)

In a colourful Mexican town, two half brothers – Romeo and Preciado – meet up again to honour their father’s memory at a car rally that is full of adrenaline and banda music!

The Deepest Breath (2023)

This documentary, which follows an Italian freediver’s attempts to set a new underwater record, has recently been the subject of controversy as Netflix has scheduled it so close to the recent Titan tragedy that claimed the lives of five people who were on an expedition to find the remains of the Titanic

Controversy-aside, this has received favorable reviews from critics, so can be recommended for anybody with an interest in freediving. There is a chance that it might get scheduled for a later date, however.

July 21

They Cloned Tyrone (2023)

John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, and Jamie Foxx star in this pulpy sci-fi mystery caper about an unlikely trio who investigate an eerie series of events and discover a vast underground complex where a government–backed lab is performing experiments on the local Black population.

July 26

Missing: The Lucie Blackman Case (2023)

On the 1st of July, Lucie Blackman, a British woman working as a nightclub hostess in Japan, went missing after going on a date with one of the nightclub’s customers. Her body was later found in a seaside cave close to the home of the businessman she was involved with.

This new documentary sheds light on the investigation into her disappearance and death and the shocking truth about the man responsible for her murder.

July 27 

Happiness for Beginners (2023)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt actress Ellie Kemper stars in this comedy about a woman named Helen who signs up for a wilderness survival course, a year after getting a divorce. This is supposed to be her chance to pull herself together again after her marital woes but disaster beckons when she realizes her brother’s annoying best friend (Luke Grimes) is also coming on the trip.

Paradise (2023)

This German sci-fi action thriller is set in the not-too-distant future, where a company named AEON has made it possible to trade years of a person’s life for money.

Max and Elena, a husband and wife, find their future together has been left in tatters when Elena decides to sell 40 years of her life to pay for an unexpected insurance debt. Max, who works for the company, hatches a plan to get back the lost years of his wife, but this results in a manhunt that takes them across national borders.

The Murderer (2023)

After a series of murders are committed in a small provincial town, a British expat named Earl becomes the prime suspect of a detective who is determined to find the killer.

July 28

Captain Fall – Season 1

Jason Ritter, Christoper Meloni, Lesley-Ann Brandt, and Adam Devine are among the voice cast of this adult-animated series about a goofy sea captain who unwittingly finds himself at the helm of a smuggling ship for a terrible international cartel.

Hidden Strike (2023)

Jackie Chan and John Cena star in this new action comedy about a retired Chinese military soldier-turned-private-security-contractor and a former American marine who team up to escort a group of civilians along Baghdad’s “Highway of Death” to the safety of the Green Zone.
