September 1

Moving On (2022)

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin once again prove they’re a force to be reckoned with in this dark comedy about two women who, after reconnecting at a funeral, vow to get revenge on the widower who messed with them decades before.

Simulant (2023)

In the near future, a woman named Faye (Jordana Brewster) tries to replace her late husband with an AI simulation (Robbie Amell). When the machine enlists a global hacker to remove all restrictions on its thoughts and capabilities, an AI uprising begins, leading to a global manhunt to track down rogue replicants.

We called this a “poor man’s version of Channel 4’s Humans” in our Simulant review so you might want to rewatch a similar, better movie (I Robot, Blade Runner) instead of this disappointing effort.

September 3

The Menu (2022)

Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) and his companion Margot (Anya-Taylor Joe) travel to the Pacific Northwest to eat at an exclusive restaurant that is located on a private island. What should be a pleasant evening turns out to be something else besides when it becomes apparent that the chef (Ralph Fiennes) has more in store for his guests than a delicious menu of enticing foods.

September 4

The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)

Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell star in this wonderfully funny black comedy about two lifelong friends, both living on a remote island off the coast of Ireland, who find themselves at an impasse when one of them abruptly decides to end their friendship. Comical and heartrending consequences ensue!

September 6

Never Let Him Go – Limited Series

In 1988, the body of Scott Johnson, a 27-year-old gay student, was found sprawled below a cliff on a rugged Australian beach. In the years since, his older brother Steve has been searching for answers to how Scott died, uncovering a wave of anti-gay violence and senseless homophobia in the process. This new documentary delves into Scott’s mysterious death and Steve’s multi-decade quest for justice.

September 8

97 Minutes (2023)

The passengers of a hijacked 767 plane have more to worry about than their sky-high abductors when the aircraft begins to run out of fuel, with only 97 minutes remaining before it is due to crash. When NSA Deputy Hawkins (Alec Baldwin) decides to have the plane shot down before it causes catastrophic damage, the fate of the passengers is left in the hands of an undercover Interpol agent named Alex (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) who has been embedded in the terrorist cell.

The Friendship Game (2022)

Peyton List, Brendan Meyer, and Kelsey Mawema star in this sci-fi horror film about a group of small-town teenagers whose friendship is tested when they discover a strange object at a yard sale.

September 13

The Other Black Girl – Season 1

Based on the novel of the same name by Zakiya Dalila Harris, this new series follows the story of an editorial assistant named Nella (Sinclair Daniel), who believes she’s found an ally when the publishing house she works for finally hires another Black woman, Hazel (Ashleigh Murray). But when Hazel begins to succeed at work, Nella isn’t sure if the new girl is a friend or foe!

Welcome to Wrexham – Season 2 (premiere)

This documentary series follows Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds as they navigate the running of the 3rd oldest professional football club in the world. After a painful elimination in the playoffs, Season 2 tracks the club as its players and stewards fight for promotion out of the National League and into the English Football League.

The Magic Flute (2022)

Fantasy adventure movie about a 17-year-old named Tim Walker (Jack Wolfe) who travels from London to the Austrian Alps to attend the legendary Mozart boarding school. While there, he discovers a long-forgotten passageway that leads him into the fantastical world of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute.’

September 15

Robots (2023)

This future-set comedy stars Shailene Woodley and Jack Whitehall as two scam artists who use android doubles of themselves to avoid the time constraints of dating. When their robot replicas go on the run after falling in love and stealing their identities, they team up to track the lovestruck machines down.

September 21

American Horror Story: Delicate (premiere)

Emma Roberts, Kim Kardashian, and Cara Delevingne star in Season 12 of AHS, which tells the story of an actress whose pregnancy journey takes a horrifying turn when she apparently miscarries but still feels her baby growing inside of her.

This season has been split into two parts because of the ongoing writers’ strike, with the release date for Part 2 currently unconfirmed.

Sanctuary (2022)

Christopher Abbott and Margaret Qualley star in this seductive thriller about the disaster that ensures when a man tries to end his relationship with a dominatrix.

September 22

No One Will Save You (2023)

This new sci-fi movie from Love and Monsters writer Brian Duffield centres on Brynn, an anxiety-ridden young woman, who has something new to worry about when her home is invaded by alien intruders. What follows is an action-packed face-off between Brynn and these extraterrestrial beings.

September 23

The Almond and the Seahorse (2022)

What’s Love Got To Do With It? (2022)

When documentary filmmaker Zoe’s (Lily James) best friend Kaz (Shazad Latif) follows his parent’s example and opts for an assisted marriage, this unlucky-in-love woman decides to film his wedding journey. Along the way, she learns some valuable lessons about her own attitudes towards relationships. Emma Thompson and Shabana Azmi also star in this sweet but predictable romantic comedy.

September 25

Krapopolis – Season 1 (premiere)

This new animated comedy from Community and Rick and Morty Creator Dan Harmon is set in mythical ancient Greece where a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters try to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.

Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) and The IT Crowd’s Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry are among the voice cast of this potentially brilliant new series.

September 29

Sweetwater (2023)

Biographical drama about Hall of Famer, Nat ‘Sweetwater’ Clifton (Everett Osbourne), who made history as the first African American to play in the NBA.
