Movies and Shows Coming to Disney+ USA in February 2024

The Marvels is the big movie streaming on Disney+ this month but there is much more to look forward to, including Self, a new animated short from Pixar, and Iwájú, a comic-style animation series from Walt Disney Studios.

Genius: MLK/X (Episodes 1 and 2)

Release Date: February 2

The lives, legacies and dueling philosophies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X are the focus of this biographical drama series documenting the formative years of these iconic figures. 


Pixar’s Self

Release Date: February 2

The first animated short in Pixar’s ‘SparkShorts’ program tells the story of a wooden doll who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after making an ill-fated wish upon a star.


The Marvels (2023)

Release Date: February 7

Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau team up to save the universe in a movie that was deemed less than marvellous by many critics. The lead actresses are great but the film sadly fails to soar when it comes to coherent storytelling and special effects wizardry.

The Space Race

Release Date: February 13

According to the official synopsis of this new documentary series, “The Space Race weaves together the stories of Black astronauts seeking to break the bonds of social injustice to reach for the stars, including Guion Bluford, Ed Dwight and Charles Bolden, among many others.”

Iwájú – All Episodes

Release Date: February 28

This new animated series set in a futuristic Lagos deals with such themes as inequality, class, and changing the status quo.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“The exciting coming-of-age story follows Tola, a young girl from the wealthy island, and her best friend, Kole, a self-taught tech expert, as they discover the secrets and dangers hidden in their different worlds.

Kugali filmmakers—including director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, production designer Hamid Ibrahim and cultural consultant Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku—take viewers on a unique journey into the world of “Iwájú,” bursting with unique visual elements and technological advancements inspired by the spirit of Lagos.”
