September 1

Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)

Directed by Drew Goddard (The Cabin In The Woods), this entertaining mystery thriller is about a group of strangers who check in to the hotel of the title. Bad times are guaranteed as they all have dark, personal secrets that impact one another as the movie runs its course.

The starry cast includes Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth, Cynthia Erivo, and Dakota Johnson.

Blue Bayou (2021)

Justin Chon directs and stars in this emotional tale that tells the story of a Korean-American man who finds himself at risk of being deported after an altercation with a police officer.

God. Family. Football

This 6-part documentary series follows Denny Duron, a former pro football player turned high school coach (and pastor), as he comes out of a 30-year retirement from coaching to bring the football program he founded at Evangel Christian Academy back to national prominence.

Red Sparrow (2018)

Jennifer Lawrence reteams with Francis Lawrence, her Hunger Games director, for this spy thriller that is based on a book by a former CIA officer. She stars as Dominika Egorova, a former ballerina, who is forced to cut her dance career short after suffering an injury.

As awful as this is for the young dancer, she doesn’t have to consider life on the unemployment line for long as she is recruited into the ‘Sparrow School,’ a Russian intelligence institution that trains women to become spies.

The Card Counter (2021)

Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, and Tye Sheridan star in Paul Schraeder’s crime thriller about an ex-military interrogator turned gambler who is haunted by the ghosts of his past.

The Forever Purge (2021)

In this latest edition to the Purge franchise, a sect of lawless marauders break the Purge rules when they decide this annual event should never end. The movie follows a group of survivors in Texas who try to make it through the Mexican border in one piece while America descends into chaos around them.

Neighbours: A New Chapter

Fans of the long-running Australian soap opera were heartbroken when it ended in 2022. But soon after news of the cancellation broke came good news when the show’s production company struck up a partnership deal with Amazon Freevee.

As a consequence of this deal, new episodes of the show will be released daily on Freevee from Monday to Thursday. So, if you are keen to catch up with the folks at Ramsey Street, we recommend you tune into the first episode of the new chapter on this date, which will feature cast members old and new.

September 23

Cats (2019)

The critics dug their claws into this movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s popular musical, with a slew of catty reviews criticizing the subpar special effects and bonkers plotting. But while the movie has been universally hated upon, it’s still worth a look for fans of the original musical, cat lovers, or anybody with a passion for bad movies.
