My Home Hero (2024) – live action movie continues the story

If you’re a fan of the Japanese Disney+, Hulu, MBS and TBS live action series My Home Hero (Mai Hōmu Hīrō) that landed in 2023, you’ll be pleased to know the story that started as a manga continues with a movie. Check out our friend Kyohei Takahashi who’s sporting blond hair this time. He’s the fixer who the yakuza turned against in the series. This time, which side will Kyoichi be on?

**What is My Home Hero about?**

Taken from Naoki Yamakawa’s manga Mai Homu Hiro (2017) and turned into both an anime (2023) and live-action series, My Home Hero (Disney+, Hulu, MBS, TBS) is about a man who kills his daughter’s yakuza boyfriend, Nobuto, when he overhears him plot against her. An impulsive move, Tetsuo must then figure out how to dispose of the body before the gangster flunkies start to scrutinize. Helpfully, father Tetsuo’s hobby is crime fiction. Or it could be his absolute undoing – as in, enough knowledge to get himself into even more trouble.

Tetsuo, played by Sasaki Kuranosuke, is almost instantly faced with Kyoichi, a gang-member given a deadline to pinpoint Nobuto, and one who finds Tetsuo fairly suspicious. Played by Kyohei Takahashi, Kyoichi swiftly sees through the story built by the fiction enthusiast, only he can’t quite lock concrete evidence.

**What will the My Home Hero movie be about?**

Seven years after the crime, a corpse buried in the mountains is discovered. The police begin an investigation while the deceased’s crime organization searches for the 1 billion yen that disappeared with the body. Tetsuo once again becomes a suspect. And his daughter who became a detective – never knowing her father’s sin – is getting closer to the truth all the time.

**When will the My Home Hero movie be released?**

It hit theaters in Japan this Spring, so perhaps we can expect to see it on Disney+ or Hulu later this year. We’ll keep you posted.

Who is included in the cast of the My Home Hero movie?

The films again stars Kuranosuke Sasaki as father Tetsuo Tosu. Kyohei Takahashi of Naniwa Danshi once again plays reluctant yakuza Kyoichi Majima.

In the film we’ll also find some returning cast and some new:

Who directs the My Home Hero movie?

The film is directed by Takahiro Aoyama, Takayoshi Tanazawa, Daisuke Yamamoto and Hirofumi Mori. Tsuyoshi Sakurai and Susumu Funabashi have provided the adapted script while the soundtrack is composed by Hiroaki Tsutsumi.
