Groundhog Day 2
Bill Murray stars in one of the best comedies of the ’90s, reuniting with his co-star from Ghostbusters, Harold Ramis, who directs the movie. It co-stars Andie McDowell and Chris Elliott. They don’t make comedies of this quality anymore, and many projects have borrowed the format in the years since it came out.
But will there be a Groundhog Day 2? Or do we have to settle for this one being a one-off comedy? Here’s what we know at the time of writing:
What is Groundhog Day about?
Narcissistic weatherman Phil finds himself in a time loop when he keeps waking up on the same day. This day happens to be Groundhog Day, and he must find a way to break the loop if he wants to return to his former life.
Will there be a sequel to Groundhog Day?
Spoilers ahead for Groundhog Day. No, Groundhog Day 2 won’t happen for a very straightforward reason: the story has already been told. The original film was regarded as an entirely self-contained, stand-alone narrative. It came to a fitting conclusion when Phil manages to break the time loop and return to his normal life.
What could Groundhog Day 2 be about?
Despite a sequel being very unlikely, in theory, it could happen, but it’s unlikely Bill Murray would return, and Harold Ramis has sadly passed away. But Hollywood loves a sequel, and could tell a story that follows someone else experiencing the time loop in modern day times.
When could Groundhog Day 2 be released?
The sequel would have at least been discussed if it were in the works. However, since there is currently no information regarding Groundhog Day 2, it is best to avoid getting your hopes up, as the likelihood of one is extremely low.
