Crater 2
Currently streaming on Disney + is Crater, a sci-fi adventure movie that is suitable for all ages. The movie is set in the not-too-distant future when many people have left the Earth for life on a colony situated on the moon. The focus is on Caleb and his four friends who journey to the crater of the title and have various adventures on the way.
If you have seen and enjoyed Crater, you might be interested in a sequel. But will there be a Crater 2? Or are the chances of a follow-up unlikely to reach lift-off? Here’s what we know at the time of writing.
What is Crater about?
In order to fulfil a promise made to his late father, Caleb steals a Rover and journies to a crater with four of his friends in search of adventure and a secret that may have something to do with his mother, who passed away years before.
Their journey is a fun and exciting one but it’s also tinged with sadness. As Caleb has been orphaned, he has been told he has to leave the colony for life on another planet. As such, he is faced with the prospect of saying goodbye to the friends he has grown up with.
What secret does the crater hold? And is this really the last hurrah for Caleb and his friends?

Will there be a sequel to Crater?
No sequel has been announced at this stage although there is potential for a follow-up movie should Disney ever decide to hit the lift-off button. We aren’t going to go into spoiler territory here but it’s clear at the end of Crater that there is scope for Caleb to go on further adventures.
What could happen in Crater 2?
It’s difficult to talk about a sequel without divulging any spoilers. But here’s what we will say: Not every character from Crater will appear in Crater 2! This is because some character journies came to a definitive end in the first movie so the chances of them returning for a sequel are slim to none.
Caleb’s story didn’t come to an end, however, so the sequel (if it happens) will likely focus on him and a friendship he makes at the end of the first movie.
We would advise you not to get your hopes up, however. There has been no word of a sequel and we don’t think it’s the filmmaker’s intent to continue Caleb’s story. Of course, we could be wrong. If a sequel to Crater is announced, we aim to update this page with the relevant information.
When could Crater 2 be released?
As the sequel doesn’t appear to be in production, we are unlikely to see it this year or early next year. A late 2024 or early-mid 2025 release is more likely, assuming, of course, it is ever given the green light.
