Masters of the Air Season 1 Episode 5 Preview: Release Date, Time & Where To Watch

Masters of the Air Season 1 Episode 5

Masters of Air marks the first production venture of Apple Studios, the digital arm of Apple Inc. Made at a budget of almost $250 million, the limited series is one of the most expensive productions in streaming history. Expectations are sky-high given the pedigree of the makers and the personnel involved creatively. Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg’s involvement is bolstered by the presence of the creators behind the 2001 HBO series, Band of Brothers

Both shows are closely related to each other in terms of style, storytelling, and narrative essentials. Masters of Air has a humongous cast with star names like Austin Butler, Callum Turner, and Barry Keoghan. The plot follows the 100th Bomb Squad’s (8th US Air Force) valiant sacrifice in testing times during the Second World War.

What happened in Episode 4?

Episode 4 of Masters of the Air is the first in the series featuring no action scenes in the air. The majority of the focus is on the storyline at the Thorpe Abbots base and a new tangent developed in Flanders, Belgium. The calendar turns to September of 1943 when Captain Dye and his crew become the first fort in the 100th to complete 25 missions. This is a milestone number that automatically discharges the crew in question so everyone in Dye’s crew is going back home.

Naturally, reserves are called in, one of whom, Lieutenant Nash, takes a liking to Helen, one of the female volunteers working in the canteen. Egan takes a weekend off to spend time away from the war. He invites Cleven to London as well but Cleven decides to stay back. While Egan is romancing a Polish woman, Cleven rides out with the others to yet another bombing mission in Bremen.

The U-boat pens that the squad targeted in the first episode are once again the target in this mission. Quinn, who had exited his fort in Episode 3 and landed in Belgium, meets up with another crewman who managed to exit the plane, Bailey.  The duo are given a guide, Michau, who will take them first to Paris, then to Spain, and finally back to Britain. When Egan reads the newspapers that announce America’s glowing bombing mission, he instantly calls Bowman at the base.

To Egan’s disappointment and heartbreak, he learns that Cleven’s plane did not make it back. The 100th lost another seven planes in the mission. Egan is out for revenge and cuts short his holiday to return for yet another mission in the next episode.
