Marry My Husband K-Drama – Season 1 Episode 13 Recap & Review

Ji-won and Su-min’s Secret is Revealed

Episode 13 of Marry My Husband starts with Ji-hyuk being rushed to the hospital. A flashback to six days before shows Yoo-ra meeting Min-hwan. Meanwhile, Su-min is berating Ji-won’s mother on the phone. She then gets a call from Min-hwan, who confirms that Yoo-ra sent the photos of Ji-hyuk. Yoo-ra offers Min-hwan a fortune and if he agrees, she’ll tell him what to do.

At work, Ji-won is in the lift when Min-hwan steps in and roughly pushes her against the wall. He accuses her of having a grand plan of getting Ji-hyuk for herself. She kicks him and walks out, saying his affair was the cause of all this.

While leaving work, Ji-won meets Ji-hyuk’s friend who tells her to continue practicing judo. Min-hwan is watching them from nearby and recognises the friend as the chicken delivery guy and the loan shark who tricked him. This seems to be the straw for Min-hwan, who meets with Yoo-ra.

Seok-jun is with Ji-hyuk and worries about all the preparations he’s making, as if he’s going to die. He’s even given Ji-won a whole bunch of real estate in her name. Yoo-ra knows this as well. She offers Min-hwan suitcases of money if he kills Ji-won. Min-hwan comes home and tells Su-min everything. He now also knows that Su-min’s father is still alive.

Apparently, he’s a restaurant owner in deep debt and in massive trouble with loan sharks. He’s also the man who married Ji-won’s mom! Su-min and Ji-won are technically step-sisters.

Meanwhile, Ji-hyuk visits Yoo-ra and offers her a deal to go her own way. But she doesn’t take it and says she’ll wait till his love fades away. When he leaves, Ji-hyuk makes a cryptic phone call. While inside Yoo-ra’s apartment, Min-hwan steps out from behind the curtain. She tells Min-hwan to kill Ji-won and then kisses him.

Su-min goes to her father, Jeong Man-sik, and Ji-won’s mother, Bae Hui-seok, and hands them a bag of money. If they do as she says, she says they can get a fortune. She then calls Min-hwan and tells him they have agreed.

Yoo-ra decides to attack Ji-won on the day of her father’s death anniversary. While she’s visiting his grave, Seok-jun calls Ji-hyuk and tells him that Ji-won’s mother has just hired an illegal dump truck. Ji-hyuk’s friend is near Ji-won but his car breaks down, so Ji-hyuk steps in himself. He realises this was the reason he was brought back, to protect Ji-won.

On the phone, he leaves Ji-won a message and tells her about his real death in 2023, which was a car accident. He laments not being able to protect her forever and apologises. Su-min’s father drives the truck towards Ji-won, but Ji-hyuk drives his car in between them and causes a collision.

At present, Ji-won listens to the voicemail on her phone. Elsewhere, Su-min and Ji-won’s mother wait in a hotel room. Su-min’s father enters and they realise everything has gone wrong.

Yoo-ra hears the news as well and tells Min-hwan to take Su-min and go home. But he finds Su-min in a fit, raging and crying because her father ran away with Ji-won’s mother yet again. Min-hwan calms her and says they have to pretend they were home all night.

Ji-hyuk’s relatives come to the hospital. Seok-jun speaks to someone, ordering them to go after Jeong Man-sik and Bae Hui-suk. Ji-won overhears him and realises Su-min was part of the accident. Ji-won doesn’t understand why they would do this and then, Seok-jun reveals all the assets Ji-hyuk left her. The doctors come out from surgery and say they don’t know when Ji-hyuk will wake up.

Su-min is at home when she suddenly gets a text and runs outside. Ji-won is waiting for her and demands to know how she could think of killing someone. Su-min puts on an act and cries about miscarrying a child. Ji-won loses her cool and yells at her to stop lying. Su-min’s demeanour changes and she suddenly reveals their parents’ affair.

A flashback shows young Su-min trying to contact her father, begging him to take her. Her own mother was mean and overbearing. One day, she overhears her father speaking about her in a derogatory way. She also learns about Ji-won and seeks her out on purpose. When Su-min sees Ji-won’s warm relationship with her father, she gets jealous. That’s why she keeps trying to steal everything from Ji-won.

At present, Su-min says she couldn’t let Ji-won be happy when she was so miserable. Ji-won surprises her by saying that she knew this all along. A flashback shows young Su-min lying about her father being dead. Ji-won sees through it but is kind towards Su-min anyway.

At present, Su-min blames Ji-won for dumping Min-hwan on her. Ji-won reports that she brought this on herself and promises to send her to a harsher hell than before. She walks away and promises herself that she’ll give Su-min her fate.

Ji-won returns to the hospital to sit by Ji-hyuk. She then gets a text from Joo-ran, who thinks her husband might be cheating on her. Joo-ran saw her husband and her friend getting cozy near her parents’ restaurant. She begins to run away and is stopped by Seok-jun, who tells her to go and fight her husband.

Yoo-ra’s head of security tells her that he will catch Man-sik and Bae-suk soon. She tells him to not leave any loose ends. From an envelope, she brings out Eun-ho’s photograph. She goes to his restaurant and asks him how he knows Ji-hyuk.

While Min-hwan is sleeping, Su-min takes Yoo-ra’s phone number from his cell. At the hospital, Ji-won tells Ji-hyuk to open his eyes. She’s not afraid of fate anymore but she doesn’t want to be alone. Wanting to hear his voice again, she plays his voicemail again. Ji-hyuk’s eyes slowly open. He reaches for her and tells her he loves her and she, tears of joy on her face, says it back.

The Episode Review

Episode 13 has some engaging bits and some dull moments, with the latter primarily to do with Yoo-ra. Her entire storyline is very stereotypical, whether it is bribing Min-hwan and Su-min or going after Eun-ho. On the other hand, the tussle between Ji-won and Su-min makes the heart of the show.

Yoo-ra, as a villain, is boring and predictable. Su-min is devious and interesting. I’m definite that the show didn’t really need Yoo-ra to push Su-min towards murder, she would have gotten there herself.

As for the rest of the storyline, Su-min and Ji-won’s confrontation is a highlight. The reveal about how they are related and became friends in the first place is really interesting! It also makes all of Su-min’s behaviour, however crazy, make sense. The verbal fight between the women is engaging and it is fun to watch Ji-won stand up to her.
