Mandy – Season 3 Episode 5 “Nandy” Recap & Review

Nandy

Episode 5 of Mandy Season 3 begins in Lola’s beauty salon. Lola is surprised to discover Mandy’s nan is still alive and living in her loft. She is 110, according to Mandy.

We cut to Mandy’s house where Lola meets Nan. After an unpleasant encounter with Nan’s long toenails, the old woman tells Mandy and Lola of a delivery coming the next day – a baby that she ordered online, due to her wanting another child.

Nan then tells them she wants to live on a barge. Luckily, the local shopkeeper has a boat so Mandy goes to meet him. She takes it off his hands but Nan is unhappy when she sees it, as its “too pokey” and isn’t a barge. She refuses to live in it and tells Mandy she will continue living in her attic.

The next day, Nan’s delivery arrives. In the box is what appears to be a goblin. She asks Mandy to babysit the creature while she goes to Bingo.

That night, Mandy is attacked by the knife-wielding monster. The two fight it out, with the battle seemingly ending when Mandy traps it in a suitcase. However, the fiend escapes and chases Mandy into the kitchen.

For a moment, it looks as though Mandy might be killed by the little creature but then Nan arrives with an Air Fryer she won at the Bingo. She disposes of the goblin by cooking it!

The Episode Review

Seasons 1 and 2 of Mandy were largely very funny. But Season 3? Not so much! After the disappointment of the last episode, it’s my sad duty to report that Episode 5 is even worse.

Seeing Diane Morgan take on dual roles as both Mandy and her nan could have been funny but the interactions between them don’t offer up anything in the way of comedy.

The goblin child isn’t funny either. The joke here is that we should never buy anything from the Dark Web, which is what Nan did when she ordered the ‘baby.’ But the end result of this plot point falls flat, as the scenes of Mandy battling with the tiny creature are laughable but not in a good way. It’s not the intentionally bad special effects that are the problem. Rather, it’s the weak script which does nothing interesting with its curiously gruesome premise.
