DIRECTOR – Kim Jung-kwon

While Kim Jung-kwon started out with films, he has recently been putting out several popular K-dramas such as Lie After Lie and 2023 favourite, Love To Hate You. Maestra: Strings of Truth is his second K-drama of the year and is a collaboration with tvN and Disney+.


WRITER – Choi Yi-yoon

Choi Yi-yoon is a rising screenwriter with a successful 2023 debut as she has put out Love Tractor and Maestra: Strings of Truth back to back.


MAIN CAST

Lee Young-ae as Cha Se-eum

Cha Se-eum is a violinist turned conductor who is known for her brutal but disciplined nature. Much sought after, she returns to South Korea and Hanphil after 20 years where she disrupts their routine. And while she comes off as cold and ruthless, she is terrified of a secret that could threaten to ruin everything.

While Lee Young-ae has been in the news recently for her philanthropic activities she is a veteran actress who has been a fixture in the Korean entertainment industry since the 90s. She has been in several popular movies such as One Fine Spring Day, Joint Security Area and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Her K-drama repertoire is equally starry as she has led shows like Inspector Koo, Jewel in the Palace and Wave.


Lee Moo-saeng as Yoo Jung-jae

Yoo Jung-jae leads the giant investment company UCF which has ties with the popular network KVN where his ex-wife works. However, he cannot seem to forget his first love, Cha Se-eum and goes to extreme lengths to win her back. And while he comes off as manic, deranged and toxic, it seems that he may genuinely care about Se-eum.

Lee Moo-saeng has been acting in movies and K-dramas since the 2000s and recently was part of the ensemble cast of the critically acclaimed film Broker. He has also been in shows like Prison Playbook, The Crowned Clown, Cleaning Up and quite recently The Glory.


Kim Young-jae as Kim Phil

Kim Phil seems to be the perfect husband, patiently waiting for Cha Se-eum, moving back and forth between USA and South Korea, is the chief composer of Hanphil and also teaches at a music university. However, all that seems to be a facade as he has something going on with the chair, A-jin.

Kim Young-jae is a familiar face, having done supporting roles in several iconic K-dramas like My Demon, Numbers, Reborn Rich, Under the Queen’s Umbrella and more. He has also led movies like Link, Suddenly Last Summer and Remain.


Hwang Bo Reum Byeol as Lee Ru-na

Lee Ru-na is a talented violinist who is selected through a blind audition but is looked down upon for not being financially well-off. She is ignored by Su-jin and her clique but is picked on when Se-eum replaces the veteran concertmaster with Ru-na. She is loyal and fiercely protective of Se-eum who is her role model.

Hwang Bo Reum Byeol is a rising actress who debuted as the lead in the 2020 show The World of My 17. Some of her known works are the iconic 2021 K-drama, School 2021 along with Dear.M and The Secret Romantic Guesthouse.


Park So-han as Jeon Sang-do

Jeon Sang-do is the CEO of Hanphil Orchestra and looks after the chairs. He believes in Se-eum even when others don’t and trusts that she knows what is best for them. However, he is also a little naive and is easily manipulated by the likes of Jeong-jae, Phil and Yu-ra.

Park So-han is a known face in the Korean entertainment industry. Along with Maestra, he will be starring in another highly anticipated year-end 2023 show, My Happy Ending. He has been in shows and movies like Twinkling Watermelon, The Penthouse, True Beauty, Less Than Evil, Project Wolf Hunting, Intention, The Call and Departure Sun.


Lee Shi-won as Lee A-jin

Lee A-jin is a chair in Hanphil and is considered sweet and shy by the rest. However, she is quite hateful and is out to get Se-eum, trying to put her down at every turn. All of her actions link back to her ties with Phil.

Lee Shi-won has been acting for a decade and has been in the lead and supporting roles in several well-known shows and movies like Boogie Nights. She has also been in Adamas, Memories of the Alhambra, Suits, Devil’s Diary and Beautiful You. She was also one of the leads in the iconic 2014 SBS soap, Run Jang Mi.


Ye Soo-jung as Bae Jung-hwa

Bae Jung-hwa has a troubled relationship with her daughter as Se-eum refuses to see her even though she has been admitted to the hospital for Remington’s Disease. Once a celebrated violinist, she is reduced to a husk of herself.

Ye Soo-jung was quite recently seen in another Disney+ show, The Worst of Evil as part of the Chinese drug-trafficking ring and was in Hunted alongside Park So-han. She has also played pivotal secondary roles in shows like Revenant, The Fabulous, One The Woman and Mine.


Jin Ho-eun as Kim Bong-ju

Kim Bong-ju, the oboist of Hanphil may seem like a charmer but he has a dirty secret and doesn’t think twice of hurting someone just for fun. After he crosses paths with Jeong-jae, his assemblyman of a father tries to punish him but it will take more than that to take down Bong-ju.

Jin Ho-eun has been pretty busy for the past few years with shows like Revenge of Others, Sh**ting Stars and Twenty-Twenty. Quite recently, fans may also remember him as the male archer in the Netflix zombie show, All Of Us Are Dead.
