Helck – Season 1 Episode 19 Recap & Review

Vermilio of the Four Elite Lords

Episode 19 of Helck Season 1 begins with Helck rushing through the kingdom while Rafaed belittles him for not ending Alicia’s life. Helck believes he can find a way to reverse Alicia’s awakening and stop the snow in town. Zeruzeon approaches Helck and tells him he embraces his awakening and doesn’t want him to reverse it. Vermilio asks Helck why he didn’t defeat the king since that could’ve stopped the process. Helck says he tried but knew killing the king wouldn’t solve the problem.

He argues the king’s death would cause the humans to go on a rampage of murder for the rest of their lives. Helck stumbles upon Mikaros and is shocked he’s still alive. He battles Mikaros, blaming him for everything that’s happened. Mikaros reveals he’s using Cless’s body to continue his plan. He continues angering Helck by acknowledging his failure to stop him. After Helck uses his dormant powers to injure him, Mikaros sends Helck to another location via a portal.

Vermilio realizes this is how Helck ended up in the demon realm. Helck explains his time in the demon realm and says he ran into Kenros. Helck explains how Kenros and his people welcomed him with open arms despite his status as the brother of the one who defeated the Demon King. After hearing Helck out, Vermilio realizes Helck’s other goal is to look after the demon companions he’s made along the way on top of saving his former human allies.

Helck realizes he has dangerous power harbored within himself and fears his uncontrollable state of mind may lead him to harm Vermilio and his friends. This is why he wants Vermilio to hold on to the Hero Slayer sword. However, Helck argues he’d rather have Azudra have it since Helck knows Azudra has the power to stop him. Vermilio reveals her true status as one of the Empire’s Four Elite Lords to Helck and she promises not to betray his expectations.

Vermilio requests Heck to fight with the desire to live and reminds him he’s not in this alone. She promises when this is all over, he can stay in their empire without issues. Helck, Piwi, and Vermilio wait at a train stop and hitch a ride. Then the two continue their travels and run into the upcoming town’s Chieftan. He warns them about a monster up ahead, but Vermilio confirms they’ve defeated it already. They visit the town to celebrate its demise.

One of Azudra’s scouts Harpey finds Vermilio and the others. She updates them on Azudra’s progress and her journey here. Despite finding help, Vermilio fears they’ll still have to continue their journey to the demon realm on foot. Harpey hands Vermilio a note from Azudra. He asks her to head for the human realm’s southern part instead of the Empire. Vermilio tells Helck this note won’t change their plans but informs him he’s been added to the head count of the Empire’s forces.

Azudra tells his allies they will serve as a diversion. The episode closes with him stating that Helck and Vermilio will defeat the Human King.

The Episode Review

After sitting through six episodes of Helck’s backstory, many will feel relieved to be back in the present timeline again. While his tale provided fans with useful intel and emotional segments, it’s great to return to the swing of things. At the same time, this episode strengthened Vermilio and Helck’s relationship wonderfully. Seeing her come clean and reveal her true nature was a long time coming.

After hearing everything Helck had been through, it made sense for her to finally reveal herself to him. Thankfully, it didn’t come across as an out-of-the-blue ordeal. It’ll be interesting to see the others’ reaction to the two’s newly established relationship since some may assume Vermilio still views Helck as the enemy. On the other hand, Vermilio may want to keep a close eye on Helck.

Recalling the island Witch and Helck’s words, it’d be best for Vermilio to observe Helck and keep her safety in mind. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to seeing how the two’s relationship develops as we progress through this narrative. Overall, this was a fun episode of Helck. I’m interested to see what happens next now that we’re in the present again.
