Shadows in the Snowscape

Chapter 5 of Granblue Fantasy: Relink begins with two dialogue choices after a brief cutscene. Choose either option, it doesn’t matter either way as it’ll bring you to the same spot.

From the Hallowed Stone, continue forward and press square when you approach the ice blocking the way. The second will require you to drop back to avoid being hit by the fallen ice.

Not long after this, you’ll enter a large cavern.

Proceed forward and ice skeletons will show up. These work the same way as the soldiers on the ship but given they’re weak to fire, it makes sense to use Rackam in your party, as he’ll make short work of them.

With the skeletons defeated, be sure to destroy the large ice pillars and the smaller ice shards on either side as they sometimes drop Ice Spires. However, you also want to go all the way to the edge of the path on the right, by the spiky icicles sticking out the ground you’ll find 1x Wee Pincer.

Progress up the stairs and continue along the linear pathway to the Monastery. Before you reach this area though, be sure to go as far to the right as possible. Near the edge of the ice you’ll find another 1x Wee Pincer. ‘

Now head up the stairs toward the Monastery but before you drop down again, take a left as there’s an extra ledge you can take up. Destroy the small ice crystal at the top and spin the camera around. Drop down and grab 1x Wee Pincer.

Be sure to rest at the Hallowed Stone and progress forward to the bridge.

Nazarbonju

Boss Fight – Nazarbonju

Nazarbonju is a one-eyed foe who largely uses the same moves as other bosses we’ve faced before, including a charge forward and a splash damage attack. However, this one will see lasers protrude across in front of it, which will then cause icicles to drop for big damage. When it uses this, be sure to keep a distance to avoid being hit with the worst of it.

Nazarbonju’s Overdrive attack is Glacial Tomb and Freeze Ray, which it usually uses in conjunction with one another. The latter sends out a spinning freeze ray which you’ll need to guard against and try to hide behind the central ice pillar when it uses. This will shield you from the worst. Even better, if that column drops while its using attacks and nearby, the splash damage will hit Nazarbonju too.

With around 50% health or so, it’ll start using more aggressive versions of the same moves and will hit Overdrive more frequently. Be sure to use the same tactics and hide behind the pillars.

Eventually it’ll go down so just keep trying to Break it and if you do, use your most powerful Skills and Links to do huge damage.

Snowquilt Ravine

With Nazarbonju defeated, proceed forward, destroying the little ice crystals along the way should you wish. There’s also a 1x Ice Spire pick-up to the left of this starting point.

Destroy the ice walls and skeletons on the route ahead and you’ll be greeted with a new, mini-version of the Nazarbonju we just faced.

These guys are Caegha and use standard slams down and splash damage attacks but they’re not too difficult to beat.

Be sure also to pick up 1x Snow Pillow from the side of their spawn point. Eventually, you’ll leave the caverns. Approach the other side of the bridge and grab 1x Frosted Flower.

You’ll have a couple of Caegha to fight too so go ahead and take these guys out. From that point, progress up to the top of the monastery but on the left, pick up 1x Ice Spire and 1x Fortitude Crystal (S), just on top of the large tilted rock column (pictured below).

Decrepit Monastery

At the end of the pathway, you’ll be inside the Monastery. Approach the door and more enemies will show. Defeat them and then a cutscene will trigger.

With the way forward and the Door of Seclusion open, be sure to rest up at the Hallowed Ground ahead.

Just ahead, on the left of this you’ll find 1x Ice Spire. After collecting it, follow Historiath along the path and she’ll continue to open the doors after defeating waves of enemies. Once again, a lot of these goons are weak to fire so be sure to use Rackam in your party to speed things along.

You will also need to make sure she doesn’t get hit here either, so just continue to pummel the enemies as they show up.

After the first door, don’t go through and up the stairs just yet. Instead, climb up the large stone column with an ice platform at the end to grab 1x Wee Pincer. The location is here:

Drop down and then head to the right at the top of the stairs and pick up 1x Ice Spire. This is directly opposite the Sanctum. When you’re ready, hug the wall on the right and climb up onto the rock so you’re right on the edge. A little further down you’ll find another 1x Wee Pincer. If you’re stuck on the location, it’s directly to the right of the bridge leading into the ice palace, before you cross over.

Scarmiglione

Boss Fight – Scarmiglione

While Historiath tries to open the door to the Sanctum, we’ll be faced with a big boss fight in the form of Scarmiglione. This guy packs a punch but he is weak to fire. This is certainly useful but he also tends to conjure little ice skeleton goons to show and they will immediately rush past and toward Historiath’s location. Be sure she doesn’t get hit, while also focusing on Scarmiglione.

Hit the boss with your biggest attacks and skills while also watching out for his splash attack. It’s a variation of what we’ve seen before, where he’ll slam the axe into the ground for damage, and then a shockwave of ice will head out in all directions.

They will also uses a variation of that too where it’ll slam the axe down and do damage in one direction, spraying ice as it hits.

Scarmiglione’s Overdrive attack is, unfortunately, not much better. It’ll send waves of dark energy out and do a lot of damage if you’re nearby so make sure you keep a distance. Rackam’s Piercing Punishment does a lot of damage so use this when you can against the boss.

Eventually it’ll go down and it won’t be long before Historiath is finished with her spell too.

Felfrost Altar

Follow Historiath inside and rest at the Hallowed Ground to recover your HP. Just to the left of this, down the stairs in the little ice chamber, you’ll find a chest holding 1x Glaciate Resistance I, 214 Rupies and 2 MSP.

Now, be sure to destroy the large crystal pillars just behind this as they hide another chest (pictured below), this one with 3x Fortitude Crystal (S) and 1x Flame Rapier. On the opposite side, inside a half-opened chest, you’ll find 1x Wee Pincer.

Next, head out this chamber and up the stairs. Turn back before heading to your destination and on the landing, you’ll find a Journal Entry, Sequestration’s Verse.

Approach the door and proceed forward to trigger another cutscene.

The next boss fight is another unwinnable battle against Id. This time you’ll be stronger and likely get him down to lower percentage of health but eventually he’ll utter “time’s up” and the fight will end… but only so far as another boss fight to show up.

Managarmr

Boss Fight – Managarmr

Another boss fight so soon after the previous one? Is this Sekiro?! Anyway, Historiath will serve as Support here and help deal damage while you attack this boss.

The attacks are all ice-based and include an Ice Ray where it hits straight forward with a blast of energy. It also jumps up in the air and attacks with its horn. However, watch out as there’s a variation of this attack where it hits the ground behind it. There will be a few seconds of delay when it uses this, so you should be able to spot it coming and dodge accordingly.

When the foe hits Overdrive, watch out as it’ll use Silver Wolf Surge. This will see it swipe across the ground multiple times with a red line showing its trajectory. Try and dodge past this and guard if you’re having trouble with it. This is then followed up by Final Sweep, where the Ice Ray from before sweeps across the battlefield.

Try and hide behind the large Ice Pillars when it does.

However, the attacks don’t stop there. It also has a stomping attack, where it’ll storm forward and do damage to circles on the ground where it’s marched and another big splash damage, where a ray of light will hit the ground.

When it becomes more aggressive like this in overdrive state, try to attack from behind and if you can do your big Link attacks, you should be able to do big damage, especially with Rackam in the party.

The final move to watch out for though is Death’s Threshold. This will reduce down the arena size and you’ll need to keep moving and watch out for the ice storm. When Managarmr hits Ice Storm, be sure to hide behind the Pillars to avoid any damage.

Eventually it’ll go down and in doing so, you’ll gain 1x Standard Refinium, 3x Fortitude Crystal (S), Health II and 2x Champion Merit.

With the boss defeated, you’ll be back on the Grandcypher again. Immediately turn back to the bowel of the ship and grab 1x Rafale Coin from the ground. On the other side of the ship, toward the back, you’ll find two lots of 1x Fortitude Shard.

When you’re ready to depart, go and speak to Rackam at the wheel. Select “Depart” and head on to the next phase of the adventure.
