Gilded Wings (Fallen Fae Gods #1) by Jaymin Eve – Book Review

Gilded Wings

Gilded Wings Book Review

Jaymin Eve is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author known for her paranormal romance and urban fantasy and her knack for creating epic love stories and thrilling adventures through her series like Curse of the Gods (2017), Supernatural Academy (2019), and Shadow Beast Shifters (2020). In 2023, she brings this same energy to her latest duology, the Fallen Fae Gods, beginning with Gilded Wings, a dark romantasy combining magic, dragons and steamy romance: everything a romantasy lover wants and needs.

The story revolves around Morgan, a young woman who loves working at a large and slightly ominous library with her best friend, Lexi. However, everything changes when a book goes missing and Morgan finds herself back at the library at night. What she discovers is beyond her wildest imagination: the library is a portal to Risest, the Faerie realm.

As a human, she is forbidden from entering this realm after sunset, and Morgan blames Drager the Fae for the predicament. Morgan is drawn into the enchanting world of Faerie, accompanied by a dragon shifter who seems to have a personal interest in her.

At its core, Gilded Wings is a mystery that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The search for the stolen book becomes a quest intertwined with the complex world of shifters, gods and fae. The mystery aspect adds depth and excitement to the romantic fantasy, making it a good read, especially if you are looking for something in the romance fantasy genre.

Throughout the book, Jaymin gives you everything you want in a romantasy, such as found family, fated mates, and possessive vibes (because we know you romance girls do like a bit of that). For fans of shifters and their possessive nature, this book will provide a thrilling and satisfying reading experience.

However, the book seems to fall a bit flat within the character department. While there is a lot there to work with, the relationship between Drager and Morgan leaves a lot to be desired. Morgan spends most of her time with her friend, Lexi, than she does with the male lead, and with the addition of another love interest, things seem to get a little messy. There is the added issue of instant attraction, which is fine for a romantasy, but the whole interaction between the characters pretending to not want each other only to have an additional love interest when things get interesting serves to slow down the romance.

Nevertheless, Gilded Wings is a good fantasy if you love world building with a good plot and tropes made for romance lovers. With the way the first book in the duology ended, you luckily won’t be left hanging for long, with the second book set for release in March of 2024.
