Found – Season 1 Episode 8 “Missing While Homeless” Recap & Review

Missing While Homeless

Episode 8 of Founds begins with Gabi holding a bat, scared that Sir could have escaped. Trent comes in, and he thinks Gabi isn’t taking this seriously. Trent tells Gabi that Sir has been following her for twenty years.

Trent shows her the overlap between Sir and her locations, implying that he has been trailing her. Trent also shows Gabi some photos of Sir and her. Through a flashback, when in captivity, Gabi is holding an injured cat. Sir asks Gabi what to name the cat, but she adamantly refuses, saying they can’t keep it because it has a home.

In the present moment, Dhan is acquainted with homeless people living at the encampment. Mack informs him that her friend Sampson has disappeared.

The scene shifts to Trent telling Gabi to stay grounded until they find Sir. Trent has become overly protective of Gabi. Shortly after, Gabi received a call from Dhan to inform her about Sampson’s disappearance.

After Trent leaves, Gabi confronts Sir, asking him why he used to trail her for all those years. Sir claims they belong together. Although Gabi thought holding Sir captive was an act of revenge, Sir seems to be happy living under the same roof as Gabi, as to when he had kidnapped her.

Mack tells the crisis team that Sampson was going through a rough time and that he had tried to commit suicide on several occasions. Every November 9, Sampson always looks disturbed. Gabi’s team learns that Joe, a local restaurant owner, was the last person to see Sampson, but he doesn’t know where he is. Joe says that Sampson was pissed and Mack is the only person who can help them.

They notice Mack is unconscious and takes her to the hospital. She says there’s a predator in the camp who tried to rape her. Sampson came to her rescue, and the guy ran away, leaving her with a cut in the stomach. And that was the last time she saw Sampson. Trent is becoming overly protective of Gabi and asks her not to go to the encampment.

They rely on the community at the encampment to get more information about the predator. Margaret spots him, and Trent goes after him and apprehends him. It’s also discovered that he was accused of sexual assault back in college but got away with it.

In the office, Margaret says she cannot go to the bus station and leave Gabi alone. She also said that her daughter, Taylor, has invited her for a mom-daughter dinner to try to smooth things out. Meanwhile, Gabi asks Sir for help to enable them to rescue Sampson.

Lacey comes to Gabi’s place, claiming that she’s scared to sleep alone in her place. Back to Sir in the basement, he can decipher some tattoos and interpret them for Gabi. The tattoos are connected to Sampson’s past.

One tattoo suggests that Sampson lost a beloved one, which might push him into despair. Amidst their conversation, Lacey calls Gabi, and Sir asks her who that woman is. He tells Gabi that she must confess she loves him lest he screams. Painfully, Gabi says she loves him, but he falls unconsciously. Seemingly, Gabi had drugged his soup.

Lacey notices Gabi is not okay and asks her what’s in the basement. Gabi claims she’s scared but quickly reminds Lacey about Sampson’s case. Sampson had an active social media life, and in one of his videos, he asks Joe to take care of Mack.

Since Zeke has yet to trace Sampson’s location, Gabi requests the media to cover the story. In the press, Dhan addresses viewers with Mack begging Sampson to return.

In the meantime, Trent says they found Sir in a strip club. Lacey and Gabi laugh off such a lead. The crisis team finds out that Sampson gave Joe money to hand it over to Mack. However, Joe decided to pocket it. They also discover that Sampson’s real name is Amid Jameel.

He lost his wife and child in a fire incident, which he caused when his cigarette fell, burning their house down. Since that incident, Sampson has never recovered.

At their headquarters, Trent says they didn’t find Sir. Gabi says they’re running out of time and should think about how to find Sampson. Everyone on the crisis team has gone through some trauma. They realise that they had a place they liked going to when things seemed out of control.

After brainstorming, Dhan gets a clue where Sampson could be. They finally find him when he is on the verge of killing himself with a gun. He eventually returns to Mack, and she’s grateful to Gabi for bringing Sampson back.

In the meantime, Trent promises Gabi that they’ll find Sir. In a flashback, Gabi thinks all bad things are happening to her because she told her mother to die. But Sir tells Gabi that she’s a good, selfless person. He claims he cannot let Gabi go because she’s the only good thing that has ever happened to him.

Currently, Lacey says she went to Gabi’s place because she was scared for her. But Lacey suspects that something is wrong after finding books that Sir used to read at Gabi’s home. She takes off Gabi’s place and seeks shelter at Zeke’s house. But it seems a romance is developing between them.

On the other hand, Sir claims that for those years, he wasn’t following Gabi but Bella. According to him, Bella’s arrival destroyed his relationship with Gabi and took her away. He threatens Gabi that if she ever turns him in or ends “them,” the first thing he will do is to kill Lacey.

The Episode Review

This episode touched a lot on mental health and being there for one another during a mental crisis. A certain season or even a smell can trigger someone’s painful memory and send them back into a depressive state. Thankfully, ebe though homeless, Sampson had a strong support system that fought for him and helped him overcome. Mental health continues to be a global epidemic, and more light needs to be shed on the matter. It can happen to anyone, and the best we can do for our loved ones is not give up on them.

On the other hand, we continue to delve deeper into the relationship between Gabi and Sir. Sir is using Lacey to threaten Gabi. Gabi thought she was in control all this time, but she realises that it was all a facade. Sir doesn’t want to leave and doesn’t mind staying in her basement, locked in chains. To him, all this is a game and he is winning.  Poor Lacey has no idea that the man she is so scared of is living in Gabi’s house. I wonder what her reaction will be once she finds out.
