Final Fantasy 7 (VII) Rebirth – Status Effects Explained

Final Fantasy is the latest action RPG that looks set to take the crown for Game Of The Year 2024. It has already won an award for being the most anticipated game of the year, and if it manages to replicate the gameplay seen in the first part, we could be onto a winner here.

However, before you even boot up the game, you may be wondering what status effects the game has that you’ll need to face. Thankfully, we’ve got everything you need to know, explained in this handy article.

What Status Enhancements are there?

Status Effects are split into two types – Enhancements and Ailments. As one may expect, Enhancements are status effects that can help your party get an edge in battle. FF7: Rebirth includes the follows enhancements:

  • Bravery – All Physical Damage is increased.
  • Faith – All Magic Damage is increased.
  • Protect – Increases defence against Physical Damage.
  • Shell – Increases defence against Magic Damage.
  • Haste – Accelerates ATB Gauge recharge rate.
  • Critical Hit Rate Up – Increases the odds of scoring a Critical Hit against enemies.
  • Reflect – Reflects Magic Damage back to the caster.
  • Regen – HP is gradually restored over time after casting.
  • Barrier – Decreases any incoming Physical Damage.
  • Manaward – The second level spell to Barrier; decreases any incoming Magic Damage.
  • Auto-Life – Automatically revives the character after HP falls to 0.
  • Reprieve -Ally will survive an attack that would otherwise kill them with 1 HP remaining.
  • Resist – Lowers the odds of ally contracting status ailments.
  • Shield – Nullifies any incoming Physical Damage.

What Status Ailments are there?

Status Ailments are effects that will hinder your party. FF7: Rebirth includes the follows ailments:

  • Darkness – Covers ally in darkness, lowering accuracy of incoming attacks.
  • Debrave – Physical Damage dealt is decreased.
  • Defaith – Magic Damage dealt is decreased.
  • Deprotect – Reduced defence against incoming Physical Damage.
  • Deshell – Reduced defense against incoming Magic Damage.
  • Slow – Decelerates ATB Gauge recharge rate.
  • Stop – Target is rendered immobile and ATB Gauge stops recharging.
  • Sleep – Target falls asleep and can’t be used. However, the ATB Gauge will remain charging. This can also be dispelled when target is hit.
  • Poison – Target gradually loses HP over time.
  • Silence – Target is unable to cast any magic spells. This also means you can’t conduct any restorative spells either.
  • Stun – Target is temporarily unable to move, but will recover after a short time. The ATB Gauge also stops recharging throughout being stunned.
  • Toad – Target is transformed into a toad. All stats are significantly decreased here, including Attack, Magic, and movement.
  • Petrify – Target will slowly turn into stone.
  • Stone – Target is rendered immobile and ATB Gauge stops recharging. Also, one hit will shatter the target and kill them instantly.
  • Instant Death – Target is instantly killed. However, the success rate of this is pretty low.
  • Berserk – Increased Physical Damage but lowered Defence. This can also cause target to ignore direct commands.
  • Fury – Limit Break Gauge fills up faster but also increases incoming damage.
  • Sedate – Decreases incoming damage; slows ATB Gauge recharge rate.

This pretty much sums up all the status enhancements and ailments that FF7: Rebirth will throw at you. As you can see, there’s not much difference to previous games. However, there are a few that could cause problems.
