The Queen’s Blood Tournament

Jenova Emergent (Boss Fight)

As Chapter 5 of Rebirth begins, go up the stairs and all the way to the far end of the hallway, where you’ll find a vending machine and a Bench. After resting up, go up the stairs to the left of the bench.

There’s a Queen’s Blood tournament going on in the ship to pass the time. Up to this point, it really depends on whether you’ve been playing, collecting cards, or just skipping the game entirely regarding how easy you’ll find this. There is a trophy directly linked to this though, Card Royalty, which requires you to win the tournament.

If you’re gunning for platinum, you definitely want to try this but alternatively, you can wait until New Game+ and mop this up alongside the Hard Difficulty run. It’s up to you entirely.

The Queen’s Blood Tournament

For now, speak to each of your party members in the bar area. When you’re ready, approach the barman and press Triangle and then “yes” to continue the tournament.

Now, it’s worth noting that you can get the upper hand even if you haven’t been actively searching out the Queen’s Blood cards. You can buy 4 different card packs from the receptionist to increase your deck, and it’s a good idea to save after every match-up that you win with others on the ship so you don’t mess up your streak. If you do lose though, you can either restart that same match or find someone else to duel against. Make sure you only report wins and save often to come out on top.

Winning the tournament also unlocks 1x Ifrit card, which is an excellent addition to your deck.

A Little Shut-Eye

After the tournament, follow the group all the way back to the cargo hold again. Inside the sleeping quarters, you’ll find a chest which holds 2x Antidote. If you want to go ahead of your party feel free to do so, approach the hammock and press Triangle. When prompted, choose “yes” to rest.

Martime Emergency / Stowaways

You’ll awaken in the middle of the night to an alarm going off. Exit the door and head back to the main bar area of the ship. After a brief cutscene, run forward and outside to the deck of the ship.

Your party will be locked for a while here, so make good use of Aerith’s magic and Red’s melee strikes, all whilst using Cloud’s various Materia to defeat these fiends.

After the initial skirmish, a brief cutscene will eventually bring things back to you controlling Cloud again. Go inside and defeat the enemies before crawling under the broken cargo hold door (pictured below).

What Lurks Beyond

As you descend down, there will be more enemies to fight by the vending machines. Be sure to rest up here before proceeding forward, under the destroyed Cargo Hold door. Follow Tifa along the path and destroy the Necrotic Entities.

These guys don’t have any weaknesses but keep hitting them with Strong Attacks with Cloud to build up the Stagger quickly. You can also combine that with a good flurry of punches featuring Tifa to Stagger them quickly.

To Catch A Fiend/In His Footsteps

When you gain control of Cloud again after the cutscene, squeeze through the gap in the cargo hold door ahead, down the stairs and follow the linear path across to Barret.

On the way, you’ll have more Entities to take out, so use the same Stagger strategy as before. When they’re defeated, be sure to open the Pink Chest which holds 1x Kaiser Knuckles.

Keep moving along this linear path but take a detour (pictured above) to destroy the Shrieker and Necrotic Entity to the right. There are some breakable boxes in here that hold various material worth grabbing.

Return to the main path and head up the stairs, along the hallway until you come to a Bench and some vending machines. Make sure you rest up here and buy any items you may need. There’s a big boss fight ahead.

Boss Fight – Jenova Emergent

For this boss, you’ll be locked with a team of Cloud, Barret and Tifa. This means you won’t be able to rely on Aerith’s healing or Limit Breaks to buff the party. Furthermore, Emergent is also very strong with melee attacks that will strike yuou hard if you get close, so you need to keep your distance.

When you start the fight, be sure to mostly control Barret and hit with a flurry of Unique Abilities and gunfire. As for Cloud and Tifa, both should be used to cast magic from afar. Be sure to come stocked with a whole bunch of ethers as you’ll likely need these to keep topped up in this fight.

If you do get close to Emergent, it’ll use a variety of different strikes with its tentacles, along with using a move called Pestilence, where a cloud of energy will hover down and damage you constantly. There’s also a variation of this called Pestilential Reckoning that serves as a shockwave and can poison you.

You want to work on hitting Emergent with magic blasts and Barrett’s gunfire from afar. When it’s Pressured, move in close and strike the head to quickly Stagger it. At this point, use your best attacks to try and get the edge in battle.

With 75% health or less, Jenova will become a lot more aggressive.

This phase of the fight is not dissimilar to the first, but be sure to dodge Jenova’s tentacle strikes and focus on destroying each of its limbs that show up. The Head, Left Shoulder and Right Shoulder can all be Crippled, which will help build up the Pressure Gauge.

As always, be sure to constantly switch your party members to make the most of attacks, and hit it with your strongest Magic while Staggered.

With about 25% health left, Emergent will step things up again and spawn tentacles across the arena. You can take these out if you wish, or if you’re looking to brute-force the boss, simply move around the arena to dodge the tentacles and constantly switch your party to stagger Jenova Emergent as quick as you can.

When Jenova Emergent goes down, you’ll gain 900 EXP, 10 Ap and 900 Gil.

With Jenova defeated, a brief cutscene will play out and bring this chapter will come to a close.
