Escape of the Seven – Season 2 Episode 9 Recap & Review

Chan-sung Marries Mo-ne

Episode 9 of The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection starts with Do-hyuk urging K’s minions to choose to do better and stop being evil; then the countdown to the mayor election begins, and Jin-mo rises to the top 2 candidates. Meanwhile, Mo-ne and Do-hyuk search for Mo-ne’s mother, who is locked up in some prison by Chan-sung. Moreover, Chan-sung suggests a merger between Save and TIKITAKA, while Ki-tak is almost driven to madness by grief and the realisation that Da-mi is his daughter. He follows Chan-sung to his house and nearly sneaks in to attack him, but Do-hyuk arrives in time to stop him. 

Chul-woo and Ju-ran are the first to join Do-hyuk’s side in honour of La-hui. Do-hyuk thinks that the Sungchan Group to take on Save and TIKITAKA. Kyung-soo, Do-hyuk, and Ki-tak watch the supermoon near Han River, and Ki-tak swears on the moon that he will get revenge on K for killing his daughter Da-mi. 

Jin-mo and Myoung-ji’s fake family status starts becoming a real family as they work together during the campaign, supporting and helping each other take care of the kids and even becoming intimate. The following morning, Myoung-ji was radiant, and the kids were enjoying the new atmosphere in the home. Erica wants to attend Ha-na’s filming session, but Myoung-ji stops her because she is trending online for attacking a bully who hurt her brother at the playground. It saddens Erica, and Han-na comforts her by telling the truth about her birth parents. Although she does not mention names, she tells Erica that her parents abandoned her and want her dead. She adds that she is jealous of Philip and Erica because their mother loves them while her mother abandoned her, which brings the two girls closer.

Do-hyuk and Ki-tak arrive at the Sungchan group to start their first day of work with Ki-tak as the group’s Vice Chairman while Mo-ne tries to find her mother in Chan-sung’s house under the guise of making him breakfast. It turns out that Mo-ne’s mother is hidden in an interior room of the house with one-way glass doors. Therefore, she can see what is happening inside Chan-sung’s house, but someone in the home cannot see her. The walls are also soundproof, so no one hears her knock on the door, no matter how hard she tries.

When Chan-sung took her from La-hui, he intended to keep her with him, but she made him angry when she kept talking about Do-hyuk, and Chan-sung locked her up. She got angry when Chan-sung hit Mo-ne and told him to punish her instead, so Chan-sung expressed his frustration about Mo-ne and Do-hyuk. After Mo-ne makes her tteokbokki for breakfast and talks about missing her mother, Chan-sung makes her prepares a lunchbox for Mo-ne and sends it to her. Upon tasting the food, Mo-ne is confident that her mother made it, and she breaks down crying. 

Meanwhile, reporters interviewed Myoung-ji during the film shooting when she was waiting for Han-na. They asked her about her intentions to adopt Han-na, which got Myoung-ji thinking. Later, she mentions the same to Han-na, asking if she wants to become her daughter, which makes Han-na cry since she thinks Myoung-ji hates her. Elsewhere, Erica holds back from engaging the bully because of Jin-mo’s election, and the bully bites her. 

At Sungchan Group, Do-hyuk introduces the company’s new app to Mi-young and Ki-tak, the S Talk 4.0. Do-hyuk thinks they must become leaders in the mass media sector and have more information to go against TIKITAKA and Save. It turns out that more people are deleting their TIKITAKA apps, and it is their chance to take advantage of and introduce S Talk. Mi-young is impressed by Do-hyuk’s genius ideas. They are interrupted by the appearance of Mr Jang, the ex-mayor of Seoul. They want to know why K is interested in making Jin-mo the mayor, but he is unwilling to disclose any information, fearing for his family’s life, more so when they tell him that the person he knows, Lee Hwi-so, is Jun-seok.

However, Do-hyuk gets him to change his mind by telling him that his cowardice will cause more people to become K’s victims. Mr Jang tells them that K wants to acquire the redevelopment rights of Gagok District, where he will build a city strong enough that even the Nation’s most powerful will bend to his will. He wants control over all information and will use people’s secrets to control them, making K the most powerful person in the country. 

Save announces its merger with TIKITATA, and when the press asks Chan-sung who he supports in the upcoming mayoral elections, he says that Save remains neutral. However, he met with Jin-mo and Myoung-ji about using the subliminal effect to increase Jin-mo’s popularity. He will plant an idea into the subconscious of anyone who logs into Save that Jin-mo is the best choice for Seoul Mayor. As for what he wants in return for helping Jin-mo, Chan-sung says he will tell him after he wins the elections. Meanwhile, Do-hyuk sends Chul-soo and Ju-ran to install a bug in LUCA’s main computer that will cancel Save’s security program. While Ju-ran distracts K, acting scorned for the merger with Save, Chul-woo sneaks into the basement, installs the bug and gets information on the Gagok district. 

Jin-mo won the elections because Chan-sung and his team helped at the last minute by bombarding the internet with articles about his contractual marriage, family, and hard work. In return, Chan-sung wants to take Han-na and announce that he and Mo-ne will adopt her in two weeks during their wedding. Jin-mo is heartbroken about Chan-sung’s request and frustrated because he cannot do anything or risk losing his mayor seat as soon as he just won it. Therefore, he acts out with Myoung-ji and asks for a divorce to protect her and the kids, but Myoung-ji is furious about the rejection, so she visits K and asks him to destroy Jin-mo. 

Two weeks later, Chan-sung shows his opponents that he is always a step ahead during his wedding to Mo-ne. Jin-mo plans to take Han-na outside the country, but Chan-sung gets to her before he can. Consequently, Do-hyuk and his team plan to rescue Mo-ne’s mother and then take Mo-ne from the wedding, but Chang-sung has her attend the wedding and walk Mo-ne down the aisle. Mo-ne’s mother can even speak different languages, as Mo-ne had said when she had previously lied about her. Mo-ne is shocked beyond words at the end of the episode when Chan-sung tells her that her life is complete without any lies with her mother and daughter, Han-na, by her side. 

The Episode Review

In this episode, Erica and Ha-na stole the show with heartwarming interactions, care for each other, and emotional dialogues. Chan-sung surprised us in this episode, and we are still confused about what happened to Mo-ne’s mother. How could she suddenly talk? Does Chan-sung also have Han-na? Do-hyuk is becoming increasingly frustrated as he keeps deviating from his goal of getting revenge and becoming increasingly empathetic about people who would not think twice when betraying him.

So far, his rivals continuously outshine him, which is sucking the fun out of resurrection, and he needs a powerful comeback. He needs to forget about saving the minions or even relying on them and concentrate on building the Sungchan Group so he can start fighting his rivals on equal standing. He is a genius in both ideas and execution, and the narrative henceforth should concentrate more on this side of him rather than the emotional side, which easily trusts people and wants to save even his enemies.
