Dare to Love Me (2024) K-drama Season 1 Preview: Release Date, Time & Where to Watch

Dare to Love Me from May 13th.

Dare to Love Me (2024)

Dare to Love Me is based on the webtoon Treat Me Carelessly (a direct translation of 함부로 대해줘 – Dare to Love Me is the English drama name). Starting in 2020, the manga series is written and illustrated by Sun Woo and hosted on Naver.

Through the magic of human and digital translations the work is also known as: Treat Me Rudely, Treat Me Cruelly, Treat Me Badly and Hamburo Daehaejwo. With all that, you may begin to form an idea of the emotion behind this story.

But, what is Dare to Love Me about?

Interestingly, quite a few websites talk about this drama being a ‘polite romance’ – it’s an oxymoron, right? The gist is that Shin Yoon-bok is a history and antiquities scholar, coming from a family with its own exalted deep blue line. It’s said ‘he’s entrusted with the important task of preserving the heritage of the Joseon Dynasty and recovering valuable cultural artifacts for his family.’ So, let’s imagine he’s the polite Confucian one. Although he’s said to have a rebellious side – such as a desire to be a webtoon writer – he finds relationships difficult, keeping people at arm’s length.

Kim Hong-do, on the other hand, tries to maintain a positive attitude but is tired of being treated like crap. She doesn’t have a family with generations of traceable history, nor the credentials to do as she pleases. Working at an apparel company, her desire is to someday flare in global luxury fashion. But because she’s single and a contract worker, her colleagues look down their noses at her, treating her as second class.

So, a romance between these two seems like it will be anything but polite. Confucianism, by nature, is male dominant. If she’s already over being treated unkindly, what will happen to his nose as he tries to raise it?

Amusingly, whatever we’re all thinking is not what seems to be happening in the trailer – see for yourself below. Could it be his pretty face that changes her mind? Anything can happen in K-drama-land. We’d love to hear your thoughts before we dig in to this drama on May 13th. Read on for more.
