Cooking Crush (Thai BL) – Episode 6 Recap & Review

Dish 6: That ‘Jub Chai Stew’ Makes Me Spend More Time With You

Episode 6 of Cooking Crush starts 31 hours before Prem and Ten kiss. Ten waits for Prem outside his class since a cooking class is scheduled that afternoon. Prem rushes over after he is done and suggests that they have today’s lesson in the school’s cooking lab since Prem has asked permission to use it. Ten does not seem excited about this, especially when Prem tries to teach him the techniques of plating and making a dish that Chang Ma taught them in class. Ten tells Prem to concentrate only on flavour in their lessons and not “eat with your eyes first” techniques.

In the next scene, Metha and Fire browse the sex worker’s street when they run into Dynamite and Samsi. They ask Metha to give them a ride since they stay in the same condo as Fire, but Samsi notices that he has lost his wallet and steps out to search for it. Suddenly, the police arrive, everyone scrams, and they leave Samsi behind. The police arrest him, but Metha returns to help him, leaving Dynamite and Fire alone in the car. Metha manages to convince the police officer that they are students, and he lets them go.

Meanwhile, Prem arrives home and tells his sister about the visit from Ten’s father and the awkward interaction with Ten that afternoon. His sister tells him that Ten might have been unhappy since Prem was not being himself during the lesson, and true to her deduction, Ten gives the food Prem made that afternoon to Metha. He says that he did not like that Prem was not using his skills during the class but was transferring new techniques he learned from Chang Ma.

Metha tells Ten that he is jealous of Chang Ma. Pang helps Prem figure out what to do by asking him to have one cooking lesson with Ten, and if it does not work out, he should then decide to end it.

Meanwhile, Metha helps Ten understand his feelings. He is upset because Prem mentioned another man during the lesson, and the person is someone Prem admires. He is agitated not because of the did that Prem made but because he is jealous. Metha asks Ten to apologise to Prem and tell him he wants to see him and keep learning to cook.

The following cooking lesson aims to make Ten like vegetables by making them sweet in Jub Chai Stew. Ten is not convinced that the vegetables can be made sweet, but Prem tells him to try them later after they are done cooking and the lesson begins. However, the dish Prem chooses to cook takes at least two days to be ready, and Pang jokes that Prem intentionally chose it so he can see Ten again.

While bidding Ten goodbye for the day, Prem feels empty, wondering if he will see Ten again since today is their last lesson. He tells him that he hopes to see him again and to feel welcome to visit even after the last cooking lesson.

Ten is reluctant to leave, and after walking a few steps, he runs back to ask Prem to join him for a meal. He says that he usually does not eat before their lesson to enjoy the food they make, but since today’s dish was jub chai stew, he feels hungry. Prem takes him to a local eatery, where they discuss the financial difficulties of running a small shop. After the meal, Ten takes Prem to another place for dessert, and they discuss the social differences between the rich and the poor. Prem talks about his dream of owning a prominent restaurant in an ideal location.

After enjoying the desert, Ten and Prem walk along the river. They both wonder how they got there and ten notes that sometimes people can get carried away without realising it. Ten takes Prem’s hand and leans in for a kiss but stops because of the fireworks. Later, Prem walks Ten home, and after they bid each other goodnight, Prem turns to walk away, but Ten reaches out to him. They simultaneously lean in for the kiss, and Prem heads home feeling all jelly and sweet. The next day, they meet at the market, and Ten is perfectly dressed for the occasion. Later, they go to Prem’s house, and they are all lovey-dovey as they check on the jub chai stew.

Elsewhere, Fire and Janee run into Dynamite and Samsi at the supermarket. Fire expects Dynamite to go to him, but he walks in the other direction. Fire seems confused, and he keeps looking to see if Dynamite will come even when they return to the apartment with Janee. Janee asks him to be honest with himself and call Dynamite if he wants to see him that bad. Janee knows that Fire’s feelings for her are not genuine. He is afraid to accept his feelings for Dynamite because he fears his mother’s reaction.

Ten tries the jub chai stew and is surprised that vegetables can be sweet. However, he has not gotten a chance to enjoy it since Dynamite and Samsi called, saying they are on the way to shoot the audition clip for the Super Monster Chef competition. Ten has to sneak out because Dynamite will scold Prem for losing focus and spending his time with Ten. Unexpectedly, Chang Ma shows up and offers to help, and coincidentally, Ten comes back because he saw Chang Ma parking his car outside when he was about to leave.

Ten complains about Chang Ma staying and him being asked to leave. He asks Dynamite and Samsi if he could stay, and they agree. However, Prem disagrees, saying Dynamite will scold him for being distracted. At the end of the episode, Dynamite asks Prem and Ten if they are a thing since that is the only reason that could make Prem distracted. The secret lovers look at each other and start to panic.

The Episode Review

The episode brings essential political and social issues about the poor versus the rich to the forefront, woven seamlessly into a lighthearted and romance-filled episode. Another fantastic aspect of the series is Neo’s character. It is incredible to experience the versatility of Neo, comparing him with his character as Fire and Boston in the just concluded series Only Friends.

Neo has a breadth in his acting talent that enables him to bring each character to life and go from savage to sweet and clueless, making each role believable.

Will Ten and Prem finally have the dating talk in the next episode? Although they have kissed and have genuine feelings for each other, they have not spoken them out, saying they want to be in a relationship, especially now that Chang Ma is appearing. What did Prem’s grandmother want to talk to him about? It seemed serious, given the change in her character since she has always been playful.
