Chicken Nugget – K-drama Episode 2 Recap & Review

Episode 2

Episode 2 of Chicken Nugget begins with Baek-joong’s declaration about the mysterious delivery person’s identity. He’s a delivery man for Nobleman’s Chicken Nuggets.

Baek-joong further elaborates that he remembers him because he got inspired by the man’s cursing and his duck-footed walk leading to Baek-joong’s composing a new song titled, ‘A F*cking Sitting Duck’.

Baek-joong and Seon-man decide to investigate the issue by visiting Nobleman’s Chicken Nuggets but find it closed. They meet a pajeon (green onion pancakes) restaurant owner who tells them that the owner of the chicken nugget place died the day before and she doesn’t know where the delivery man is.

She agrees to let them know his whereabouts in exchange for them buying a 50,000 won ($37) pajeon, clearly ripping them off. We also come across another mysterious figure watching the three from one of the apartments above.

They go back to the office and Seon-man reminisces how well Min-ah used to make pajeon. We see a clip of Min-ah eating the pajeon with a chicken nugget.

At this time, they receive a delivery. The delivery person recognises the mysterious machine. He tells them that he used to work for a renowned Nobel Prize winning mechanical development scientist. He participated in his Carbon Composite New Material Development Project concerning the machine.

The man tells the two that Dr. Yoo was obsessed with the machine and once told him that the outer covering was made up of a material that did not exist 200 years ago. He also told him that the machine existed since the 19th century Joseon era.

Moreover, he tells them that Dr. Yoo is missing. A while later, he comments that the logo on the machine of Dr. Yoo was different than the one in the company’s office.

Later in the night, Seon-man finds that Dr. Yoo is nowhere to be found and the lab has caught on fire. The machines in the lab are also reported missing.

The next day, Seon-man visits the police station to know about Dr. Yoo’s whereabouts. He coaxes the officer into giving him the information by suggesting that his daughter has transformed into a bottle and every time you turn the cap, her neck cracks.

Forced, the officer tells Seon-man that Dr. Yoo isn’t just missing but he has “evaporated” into thin air. They had tracked his course but he disappeared inside a building.

Seon-man meets Baek-joong in front of Baekjung Chicken Nugget, where Min-ah got the nuggets for lunch. He explains that the restaurant is over 200 years old and that the current owner is so particular about their 200 year old recipe that he never allows to change it.

He must surely recognise that one of the chicken nuggets in the box is not from his restaurant and hence, that nugget must be Min-ah.

The two enter the restaurant and pull all kinds of trick so that the restaurant employee let them meet the owner – portray themselves as reporters, franchise investors, bribe, everything but the employee doesn’t budge.

Baek-joong suggests to tell her the truth and they write a note for her before being prompts thrown out of the restaurant.

The chicken nugget box flies and all the nuggets disperse and mix with regular nuggets that a family is eating.

While the two man make huge scene, a child takes a bite from one of the nuggets, leading to Seon-man mourning the death of Min-ah and Baek-joong falling on the floor. A woman proclaims that “It’s not your daughter” and the episode ends.

The Episode Review

This episode is as weird as the previous one. Many times, it reminds me of the film, Extreme Job (2019) since the humour and scenes have similar vide, owing to the fact the director is the same.

We now know a bit more about the machine but we have no clue where the machine came from, what happened to the scientist – basically, what is the deal with the show!

Not only is the script interesting but our two main actors, with their hilarious reactions, are definitely the star of the show. I couldn’t imagine pulling such absurdity off if not for Ryu Seong-ryeong and Ahn Jae-hoong.
