Butareba: The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig – Season 1 Episode 1 Recap & Review

Otakus Enjoy Being Treated Like Pigs

Butareba Episode 1 kicks off with our protagonist’s reincarnation as a pig. He’s seen in a pigsty, describing his emotions in his new body. He then elaborates on the ways in which his vision differs from that of humans.

A young woman named Jess appears not long after to tend to the livestock. Jess, who has the ability to read minds, overhears the protagonist’s internal monologue. Then, she takes care of him and brings him along afterward.

We quickly come to learn that Jess works as a servant. She has the ability to read minds since she is a Yethma. We also find out that the protagonist has been reincarnated in a place called Mesteria.

Throughout the episode, the protagonist is seen having lusty thoughts about Jess. Jess, on the other hand, takes it as a compliment and is always quite pleasant towards him.

Jess tells the pig that she doesn’t get much attention since she’s a servant when they go on a walk together. She then proceeds to inform him that she has no friends. She goes on to say that she appreciates the protagonist’s kindness because it stands out among the other minds she reads.

At the very end of this episode, the protagonist wonders if there’s any chance he can revert to his previous form. Jess tells him they can go see the King, and that she’s confident the monarch will help them since he’s full of kindness.

The Episode Review

In the first episode, we meet the primary protagonist and learn about his background. It turns out that he reincarnated into a pig. A kind woman named Jess feels sorry for him and decides to look after him.

It’s not lost on us that he’s a pig-like character, too. His persistent thoughts of lust, however, generate numerous comical moments.

In this episode, Jess, another character, is introduced to us. She is seen tending to our primary character. This mystery around her character’s motivations is part of what makes her so fascinating.

The premise of the show is presented in this episode. The concept of the protagonist being reincarnated into a pig is pretty fascinating, but the episode itself isn’t particularly impressive.

Jess’s aesthetic design happens to be very pleasing to the eye. The pig is made to look adorable while still being quite simple in its design.

We’ll have to see the direction the show takes in the upcoming episodes. However, at this point, the show is decent. It isn’t particularly fascinating, nor is it terrible.
