Burning Betrayal Plot Summary
Burning Betrayal is a Portuguese Netflix film directed by Diego Freitas. Burning Betrayal is a romance thriller that follows a beautiful accountant, Babi, after she discovers her fiancé’s infidelity just days before their wedding.
Tired of always being a good girl, she breaks up with him and starts a sexual awakening journey. However, the past keeps rearing its head, threatening her newly found happiness and freedom.
What happens between Caio and Babi?
Burning Betrayal starts with two people racing on their motorcycles along a highway, and one gets into an accident. The woman helps the man up, and they arrive at a garage and start making out. Suddenly, the woman notices the engagement ring on her finger and realises it is just a dream. The woman, Babi, fell asleep at the table planning her wedding to Caio.
Even though Babi feels like something is not right between them, she pushes back the doubts and is still happy to marry Caio. However, during the bachelorette party, Babi receives photos of Caio with another woman. Babi is devastated and hides in the washroom, afraid to face the world.
Her friend Patty will not let her wallow in heartache, so together with their other friend, Thiago, they break into Caio’s office to help Babi find any evidence about the other woman. While Patty distracts the guard, Thiago and Babi search Caio’s office, and Babi finds earrings similar to the ones she had recently received as a present from Caio addressed to Nicole.
Caio has been cheating on Babi for two years. Babi furiously trashes the office and then leaves with Caio’s laptop. Babi feels so hurt the next few days that she does not leave her house and continually tries to crack the laptop’s password. However, her friends Thiago and Babi were always there for her until she was ready to move on.
The first thing that Babi does is undergo a complete makeover, and on her first day at the office, she looks gorgeous. She asks Thiago to make sure Caio is no longer their client, but Thiago reminds her that his business represents a third of their income, so it will be hard to let him go.
What happens between Marco and Babi?
Babi and Marco first see each other at the courthouse during the preliminary hearing about the partnership between Caio and a construction company suspected of illegal activities. Babi leaves her file at the courthouse, and Marco’s assistant calls asking her to pick it up at the judge’s office.
Coincidentally, the day the secretary calls is the first day Babi is back at work and with the makeover, she mesmerises the judge. Outside, Babi finds the bike with the Road Harpies Motorcycle Club logo. As she admires the motorbike, Caio shows up and starts making a fuss, begging for forgiveness, and Marco intervenes.
Babi agrees to join Marco for a drink after, and they almost hit it off, but another woman who looks like a stalker appears. Marco excuses himself, and Babi leaves. Later that night, Babi calls Camille, buys back her motorbike, joins the club, and heads out for their first trip to the beach.
Marco invites Babi to watch the sundown. They talk some more and realise their attraction to each other, especially when Babi tells him about her dream. Marco and Babi have their first kiss, but he gets an emergency call and has to leave.
He returns later that night, and when Babi sees him, sparks start flying. They have an intimate session outside on the beach with the waves echoing the sounds of their heavy breathing.
The next morning, Babi wakes up alone with Marco’s note, telling her he might tell her all about him someday and thanks her for the best night of his life. Babi gets upset, and on their way out the next morning, another man warns her to stay away from Marco since he is mysterious.
Later, Babi ignores Marco and does not take his calls. He sends flowers to her office and invites her to dinner at his house. Babi opens up to Patty about her hesitations with Marco since he is mysterious, and she is not ready to trust another dishonest man. Patty convinces her to give Marco another chance, which starts many other chances all over his house.
Is Marco married?
Just as Marco and Babi start to trust each other and Marco wants to open up about his complicated life, Paula appears. Furious, she barges into the house, talking about Marco being with her and telling the security guard that the house is hers.
Babi is surprised when she calls Marco her husband. Paula talks about Marco abandoning her when she needed him the most and says he is a monster. Babi is not about to stand around and wait for Marco to lie to her anymore, so she leaves. Marco tries chasing after her, but she tells him never to go looking for her again. Sadly, she gets into an accident on her way home.
Marco visits her at the hospital, but Babi does not want to talk to him. However, after she leaves the hospital, he visits her at home and asks her for a chance to explain himself. Marco takes her to a hospital and shows her his daughter, Vitoria, who has a rare condition called Emmanuel Syndrome. She has developmental problems, malformation of the intestines, and heart problems.
Paula is Vitoria’s mother, and they were married for four years. However, Paula developed mental health problems, which became worse after they found out about their daughter’s health problems. Marco tried to take care of Paula, and they stayed together, but her mental condition threatened their daughter’s life, and he had to prevent Paula from having contact with Vitoria legally.
Marco explains that the emergency he suddenly had while they were at the beach was about his daughter.
Marco had decided never to be in a relationship with someone again until Babi entered his life, and he was completely in love with her. He is no longer married to Paula since they are finalising their divorce, and he wants to restart his life with her. Babi asks for some time to process all the information.
Who is the stalker?
The stalker first appears at the beach when he takes a video of Babi and Marco making out in the pool. When she gets back to work, she receives a video of her and Marco with a warning to stay away from Marco. Babi thinks the stalker could be anyone, including Caio, his mistress, the crazy woman she saw at the bar, or Thiago.
Babi tells Patty about Thiago confessing his feelings and adds that he looked strange the last time she saw him. Patty thinks that the stalker could not be Thiago since he posted an Instagram story the same night Babi was at the beach and was miles away from her location.
However, when telling Caio about eliminating Babi since she found evidence of their illegal activities, Thiago admits to being the stalker.
Who is behind Babi’s accident?
Babi gets into an accident on the day she breaks up with Marco. She tells Thiago that she thinks that the motorcycle accident was not an accident but that someone intentionally drove the car towards her. Marco overhears her telling Thiago about it, and he calls a friend, asking him to get the traffic images of the accident scene.
He also asks for help wiretapping someone. Marco gets back the images, but the license plate is fake, making Marco suspect something is happening. Thiago admits to being responsible for the motorcycle accident when suggesting they make Babi disappear to ensure their illegal activities are not discovered.
Who is involved in illegal businesses?
Babi finally figures out the password to Caio’s laptop and comes across an import contract, which spooks her. The following day, she shared the information with Thiago about finding fake accounts not handled by their office, signifying that Caio was involved in a construction scheme.
Babi wants to take the laptop to Marco, but Thiago stops her, suggesting they give it to their lawyers and ask for their advice. Thiago swears that he did not know anything about the laptop.
Babi heads back to work after the accident and follows up with Thiago about the laptop. Thiago tells her that the process is taking some time, but Babi thinks they should hand over the laptop to Marco since she trusts him. Thiago agrees, and Babi wants them to handle it instantly. First, she must stop by her house and pick up the copies she made of the computer files. Thiago asks her to head to the house and pick up the files; he will pick him up in two hours.
Thiago looks angry as he heads back to Caio’s house. He finds Caio covered in blood, and he tells him about some people breaking into his house and torturing him. Caio says that the same people are watching everything, and he will be in great trouble if he does not fix some problems.
Caio asks Thiago to tell them that he did not give Babi the laptop and is not to blame for the mishap. Thiago tells him Babi knows too much, and Caio says he wants out.
Thiago turns into a whole different person, telling Caio about making Babi and the evidence she has to disappear or else they will be the ones to disappear. Thiago introduced Caio to the illegal business and told him he could get more money from the construction company. Caio did not know that Thiago would involve him with criminals.
However, Thiago thinks that Caio was pretending he did not know where the money came from, but he was eager to spend it on cars, whiskey, a mistress, and jewellery to the extent that Thiago had to get him away from Babi by sending her the photos during her bachelorette party.
Do Caio and Thiago kill Babi?
Thiago convinces Caio to help him make Babi disappear, but Marco hears their conversation over a wiretap he put in their office. Thiago picks up Babi at her house, but he does not head to the courthouse. Thiago pulls out a gun and tells Babi to stay quiet.
Marco calls, and although Thiago is threatening her, Babi picks it up and tells Marco she is in a car with Thiago. Marco has no idea where they are heading but remembers Babi telling him about a tracking app. He calls Patty to get Babi’s location and then calls the cops.
Thiago drives deep into the woods and then, holding a gun to her head, walks Babi deeper into the woods. Babi tries to talk him into giving her a chance to help him since the evidence in the financial records does not incriminate him. Caio has the grave ready when they arrive at the location, and Thiago orders her to get in.
Thiago then gives Caio the order to kill Babi, but he refuses to shoot, leading to an argument between them. Babi takes the opportunity to hit Caio with a shovel, and he drops the gun. However, Thiago beats her to it, and he shoots Caio. He goes to shoot Babi, but Marco arrives.
They fight for the gun, but Thiago wins again and shoots Marco, but the police arrive just in time to shoot Thiago. Babi and Marco are safe, and the police arrest Thiago and Caio.
How does Burning Betrayal end?
The final scenes of The Burning Betrayal start with a time jump six months later. Babi and Marco are preparing the room for Vitoria’s hospital discharge when Patty calls with news that she is in a serious relationship with Junior and Rodrigo. Marco and Babi ride to the beach, and the movie ends with the lovers embracing each other.
