Bosch: Legacy – Season 2 Episode 3 “Inside Man” Recap & Review

Inside Man

Season 2 Episode 3 of Bosch: Legacy starts with a woman called Lexi Parks who is with her husband, Vince Harrick. He is heading out to work a shift as a sheriff’s deputy, while Lexi has returned from her job as the assistant city manager for West Hollywood. The couple is discussing finding time to see each other, and they agree to have breakfast together when he returns. The next morning, Vince discovers Lexi brutally murdered in their bed.

It’s four months since Lexi’s murder, and also since Maddie’s kidnapping ordeal. She is swimming in a pool, doing laps and then holding her breath underwater, while using a weighted belt to keep her below the water. She unlocks the belt and rises to the surface. Harry is at his home, talking with a contractor who has been refurbishing his home after it was hit by an earthquake at the start of season one. Harry decides to carry out the final steps himself, as the project has already gone over budget. Maddie arrives home and asks why he let the contractor go, and he just says he didn’t need him anymore.

The police arrest a man called David Foster for the murder of Lexi Parks. He tells his wife to call Honey Chandler. Honey arrives at work, and Martin Rose informs her that a former client, David Foster, wants her to represent him.

Maddie has returned to work. She is working atn the front desk and talking with her training officer, Reina Vasquez, and telling her she isn’t sleeping well and wants to move out of her father’s house. Vasquez has a new position working for the Crime Reduction Unit at the Hollywood station, and Maddie is envious, having been stuck at the front desk. Maddie speaks to fellow officer Rico about meeting up later as they pass each other in the station.

The FBI comes to speak to Honey Chandler, and the two agents suggest she was involved in Carl Rogers’ and his lawyer’s murder. They reveal they know Honey and Harry were both in close proximity to the shipping container that had the dead bodies in it. Honey says she has nothing to tell them, and the agents tell her she may be called to the grand jury. Honey gives Harry the heads up about the FBI, and he isn’t too concerned, but does point out that her coming to him was what the FBI expected her to do.

Harry asks Mo to access the law firm’s email to check if Martin or her other assistant, Matthew, are talking to the FBI, and then visits Crate and Barrel to tell them they may be implicated in it for their help. They are both retired and not too worried. They banter with Bosch, and he urges them to “get some new material.” Honey meets with David Foster and asks if he has an alibi, to which he claims he was at home with his wife on their date night.

In court, Honey asks for the arraignment to continue while she has a chance to get up to speed with the case, and the judge offers Foster 30 days. He accepts. The prosecutor says David’s DNA was found at the scene and inside Lexi’s body.

Harry tries to figure out who is talking to the FBI from Honey’s office. Turns out Matthew is working with the FBI, and Harry figures this out from photos of Matthew meeting with the feds, taken by Mo. He then calls Maddie asking about her plans, and she misses the call as she’s fooling around with Rico in bed.

Harry meets with Honey to tell her about Matthew working with the feds, and she considers firing him, but Harry suggests she keep him on to gain more information. Honey agrees and says she can feed false information to him, leading the FBI into entrapment, and the end of the case. To cover for the time they are spending together, Honey hires Harry to be an investigator on the Foster case. She gives him the same dollar bill she previously had as payment for his services.

Harry takes a look at Lexi Park’s house, and a neighbour enquires about whether he is thinking of buying it, revealing the story behind the house. He asks them if anyone heard anything at the time of the assault and learns that the alarm wasn’t set.

A new character is introduced called James Allen, who meets potential escorting clients at a bar. James meets a customer and leaves with him. They end up at his hotel room, and he sees bright headlights from a car outside. He leaves to have a look and disappears along with the car.

Honey meets Foster’s wife to discuss his alibi, and admits he wasn’t home on the night he says he was. She suspects he was doing drugs again. Honey then visits Foster, and he admits to doing drugs again around six months ago, and says his dealer is a man called James Allen, and he was with him the night of Lexi’s murder.

Honey informs Matthew that Harry has been hired to investigate David’s case and asks for all the records on the case. At Harry’s house, the same FBI agents who visited Honey are waiting for him when he returns home. They have a subpoena for him to appear before the grand jury. He tells them to leave it on the table and get out.

Honey is at a meditation class, and a man comes up to her afterwards and tries chatting to her. She is polite, but bothered by it. Honey tells Harry the Foster alibi was false, and Harry says he hasn’t found any links between Foster and Lexi.

The FBI agents meet with their boss, Will Barron, and they want to tap Bosch’s phone. Barron reminds them of a sign on his wall saying “Dig Deeper.” The agents leave and Barron is reviewing a big board with suspects on it linked to Carl Roger’s murder. Bosch and Honey both appear on it, amongst others like Crate and Barrel.

Maddie comes home while Harry is reviewing Lexi’s murder file. Maddie enquires about it, and he lets her take a look after some hesitation. He reveals he believes Honey’s client is innocent. Harry mentions that the Dockweiler sentencing is coming up, and Maddie doesn’t seem keen to discuss it, saying she needs to go to bed. She goes to her room, puts her firearm under her pillow, leaves a light on, and lies down to go to sleep. But she can’t sleep and lays there with her eyes wide open.

The Episode Review

Episode 3 feels like the first episode of a new season in many ways, as a new murder case is introduced, and four months have passed since Maddie’s ordeal. The execution of this story, as well as the introduction of a potential case against Harry and Honey for involvement in Carl Rogers’ murder is done extremely well and sets up some very intriguing plot lines moving forward.

The chemistry between Harry and Honey grows with each episode, and it really is turning into the Harry and Honey show, which is absolutely fine by us. Another stunning episode of this outstanding crime drama.
