PK (2014)

A human-like alien (Khan) is stranded on Earth, and the only device he can use to communicate with his spaceship is stolen. Upon the suggestion of people, he goes on the lookout for God’s help.

He doesn’t find God, but his quest leads viewers to reevaluate the need for religion and the so-called messengers of God. The film focuses on the one god-for-all concept – a system meant to bring people closer and not create a divide.



Andaz Apna Anna (1994)

A retired professional wrestler decides to fulfil his dream of winning a gold medal by training his daughters for the Commonwealth Games. Odds are stacked against him as social stigmas of the day and improper female sports infrastructure challenge him to his limits.

The film received incredible critical acclaim upon release both from audiences and critics. It is the highest-grossing Indian film to date. The film is based on the real-life events of wrestler, Mahavir Singh Phogat.



Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

Dil Chahta Hai follows three childhood friends who are separated due to their different approaches to love. The plot doesn’t contain anything bombastic, but the character development the film showcases is immensely realistic. As a result, many can relate to it.  Dil Chahta Hai is considered to be one of Bollywood’s best dramas. 


Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001)

Set in 1893, Lagaan tells the story of a group of fearless Indians who put their livelihood at stake in a match of cricket (a sport they don’t know anything about) against British rulers.

Lagaan is an epic classic that’s been praised for its simple yet impactful portrayal of the fight for one’s rights. The film was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Movie category.


3 Idiots (2009)

A student changes the life of everyone he meets during his college. However, after he gets his degree, he secludes himself from everyone. Two of his friends set out to find him 10 years later. Turns out, his life wasn’t all it seemed.

3 Idiots is funny, emotional, witty, and most importantly carries an important message. There aren’t many films in the world that come close to the solid standard of 3 Idiots’s story and execution. The film has been remade in multiple languages.
