Keith Blackmore Introduces Augustus ‘Gus’ Berry and his fight to survive the zombie apocalypse. This former house painter now lives a day-to-day existence of getting drunk and preparing for the day that zombies will find their way up to his fortress. He lives off scavenging from the nearby towns, and has to deal with newcomers and, of course, the zombies themselves. This is a more standard zombie novel, having to deal with resource management, and dealing with other people.


Monster Island by David Wellington 

Monster Island takes place in a world where zombies overrun Manhattan. But our protagonist doesn’t just need to worry about the walking dead. A former UN employee, he must help a warlord, who kidnapped his daughter, retrieve a cure for a deadly disease. Unfortunately, this cure is located in the middle of zombie-infested Manhattan. This is the first book in the series. For many, this is a surface-level zombie horror that would be perfect for anyone who enjoys the storyline of games like Day Gone.


Day by Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne. 

Written in the form of journal entries, this book follows and details one man’s personal struggle for survival in an undead world, ravished by an unknown plague. As the dead begin to claim the Earth as a new species, the protagonist must fight to find a way to survive or be cursed to walk the Earth of the undead. If you are looking for a realistic, gritty take on zombies, this one is worth reading. 


Feed (Newsflash #1) by Mira Grant 

Set many years after the cure for Cancer and the Common Cold combined to make a virus that infected all mammalians. Anything over 18kg is turned into a zombie if they have contact with this virus. A blogger, Georgia Mason, is following the presidential campaign of the Republican Senator Peter Ryman. However, after a series of incidents reveal a giant conspiracy at play, Georgia and her team need to get to the bottom of it.
