Beautiful Wedding (2024) Movie Review – A distasteful sequel to an already disastrous smutty romance

A distasteful sequel to an already disastrous smutty romance

Some movies keep you on the edge of your seat and others make you want to turn it off and leave the room. Beautiful Wedding is sadly the latter as the 150-minute romantic comedy is a half-assed attempt at continuing the Beautiful Disaster series. The film stars Victoria Gardner and Dylan Sprouse in the lead roles and follows the story of Abby Abernathy and Travis Maddox’s romance.

Beautiful Wedding takes place right after the events of the first film where Abby and Travis wake up in a hotel room in Las Vegas only to realise they have gotten married in a local chapel after getting drunk. While Abby thinks being married at the age of 19 years old is not ideal, Travis wants to try and give this whole marriage thing a shot.

The film starts in an awkward space and we see the couple bickering and arguing. It looks like arguing is all this couple does, making their interactions a very frustrating watch. The couple, along with their friends Shepley and America, take a trip to Mexico for a honeymoon. All the while, this one tries to be funny but the jokes never land. The film also has some of the most awkward sex scenes that will make you cringe.

While the first instalment, Beautiful Disaster, was an average romance, Beautiful Wedding is just unwatchable. We see Travis wanting to save his marriage with Abby but we also see him make no effort to show it to Abby. The characters just exist and try to make chaos happen. There is no chemistry between the main leads and the supporting characters deliver exaggerated performances to serve the purpose of the plot.

Beautiful Wedding starts with Abby and Travis getting marriage counselling from a priest who is sexualised later on in the film. There is a lack of any real conflict in Abby and Travis’ relationship and it looks like the makers have used jealousy as a means to create unnecessary conflict in the film. With all that being said, there is nothing great about Beautiful Wedding other than the Mexican scenery and some foot-tapping music.
