American Rust: Broken Justice – Season 2 Episode 7 Recap & Review

Tree

American Rust: Broken Justice Season 2 Episode 7 begins with Mrs. McKenna in an interview room at the police station where she tries to strike a plea deal to avoid a trial for the murder of her husband, Liam. She confesses to paying a stranger to deliver a bomb to her husband to kill him. Harris and Burgos have discovered recurring deposits, which she claims were sent by herself, and she is officially arrested, but Harris doesn’t think it all makes any sense.

Grace hosts a divorce party to celebrate her cancelled nuptial to Virgil, and everyone gathers for this bizarre event. Grace makes a speech, followed by Virgil, who wishes her and Del Harris the best for the future, but he can’t resist getting a few digs in there along the way. A very drunk Billy decides to make a speech as well, while announcing he is joining the army, but it all ends badly when he throws up all over the table and collapses.

Harris and Virgil carry Billy out, and Isaac and Virgil take him home, while Harris tells Grace he’s heading back to Pittsburgh. But before he leaves, she asks him about his close relationship with Burgos. Harris says they are just friends and he cares about her, which Grace appears to accept.

Elsewhere, Cynthia finds the bug in her apartment and confronts Burgos about it, thinking she has planted it, which results in a big argument between the pair. Elsewhere, Isaac is surprised by the return of old boyfriend Nate and welcomes him into his house.

The episode ends with Virgil taking Billy to a remote part of the woods, where he has tied up his old cellmate to a tree, and encourages him to take revenge on him for how he treated him in prison.

The Episode Review

The shortest episode of Season 2 thus far feels very much like a bridging episode, as it features a long sequence that brings all the major characters together for Grace’s divorce party.

It’s an important respite from the main story and leads to some important character development. It ends on a tense cliffhanger that deals with a plot thread from season 1, that looks set to be resolved to make way for season 2’s main storyline.
