A Good Day To Be A Dog — K-drama Episode 13 Recap & Review

Episode 13

Episode 13 of A Good Day To Be A Dog starts with Hae-na leaving Seo-won’s apartment after he kisses her out of the blue. Outside, she remembers the curse and flees, hiding nearby prepared to turn into a dog. However, she is shocked when she does not turn into a dog even after midnight.

Hae-na goes home and tells Yu-na and Uncle Dong-cheol about it. Dong-cheol wonders if Seo-won had already broken Hae-na’s curse by kissing her but she can’t remember if he did.

That night, Hae-na thinks about texting Seo-won but backtracks upon realising how he still has feelings for her. Meanwhile, Seo-won regrets being hasty when Hae-na has no memory of him.

The next day, Hae-na tries to avoid Seo-won as they walk to school. Seo-won notices this and confronts her inside. He asks her to stop avoiding him and promises to wait for Hae-na to recover the “missing pieces” of their puzzle. Seo-won also tells her that he will wait until Hae-na is sure about her feelings for him.

At home, Dong-cheol finds the photo-booth photograph of Hae-na and Seo-won with Yul from Seo-won’s birthday. He reads “Seo-Hae Couple” written on the photo and rushes to the school to talk to Hae-na. The Vice Principal finds Dong-cheol and tells him how he smells like a dog.

Dong-cheol ignores the comment and tells the man that he is Hae-na’s uncle and here to meet her. He also shows him the photograph to prove it to him but the vice principal sneaks the photo into his pocket and distracts Dong-cheol with a treat.

Meanwhile, Hae-na thinks about all the hints that point her towards Seo-won, wondering why she does not remember him breaking the curse. After leaving the vice principal’s room, Dong-cheol starts barking around the school, looking for Hae-na. He learns that he has lost his voice after his interaction with the vice principal.

Dong-cheol runs into Ms Yoon and is surprised to see her. However, Hae-na finds him and is shocked to learn that he has started barking instead of speaking normally. She asks him to try and text her but soon learns that her uncle has forgotten to text as well.

Dong-cheol hands her the vice principal’s ID card that he had sneaked before leaving his office. He tells Hae-na that it was the vice principal who made him lose his voice. Hae-na is confused and promises to talk to the vice principal about the issue, asking her uncle to go back home safely. She shows up at his office and leaves his ID on the table but finds the photograph there.

Hae-na is shocked after seeing the photo and remembers her last conversation with Bo-kyeom before losing her memories. She finds Bo-kyeom in the hallway, who tells her that everything happening in her life is a result of her choices. Hae-na follows Bo-kyeom and confronts him, wondering what he meant when he mentioned the choices she made.

Bo-kyeom tells Hae-na that she chose to lose her memories for the sake of her family and adds that he is still burdened with the memory of his past lover’s death. Hae-na tells Bo-kyeom that she doesn’t remember the past like him but agrees to visit the mountains with him.

Hae-na tells Bo-kyeom that she is happy to do whatever he wants from her but promises that she will find her way back to Seo-won, no matter how long it takes. That night, Ji-ah thinks about all her memories from her past life and realises what caused The Mountain God (Bo-kyeom) to be this upset.

On the other hand, Bo-kyeom recalls how Cho-young died and promises to make Seo-won and Hae-na pay for their mistake. The following day, Ji-ah learns from her classmates that some of the students are going to see a haunted house in the woods with Hae-na upon the Vice Principal’s instructions.

Ji-ah realises that Bo-kyeom planned all this and rushes to Bo-kyeom’s room to talk to him. Upon finding the room empty, she tells Seo-won how Bo-kyeom is going to end it all, possibly by killing Hae-na. Seo-won gets worried but Hae-na calls him, asking to meet him in the school park.

Seo-won rushes to meet Hae-na and learns that she has found out what Bo-kyeom had done to her memories. Hae-na tells Seo-won that she does not have her memories yet but is going to get them back after her trip to the mountains. Seo-won tries to talk Hae-na out of going to the mountains and tells her that they can make new memories together.

However, Hae-na is persistent. Seo-won asks to join Hae-na on the trip. The next day, three of Hae-na’s students as well as Yul and Ji-ah join Hae-na and Seo-won on the trip to the mountains. There they find The Mountain God’s old shrine. However, the vice principal dresses as a ghost to scare the students off.

Yul, adamant about protecting Ji-ah, pulls her out of the shrine as they run in the opposite direction. The other students also scatter leaving Hae-na and Seo-won worried. Hae-na and Seo-won try to find the students while Bo-kyeom shows up in the forest with a pack of hound dogs.

At the same time, Ji-ah shows up at the cliff where her past self – Cho-young died and finds Bo-kyeom there. Bo-kyeom sees her as Cho-young for the first time and gets emotional. Cho-young then tells Bo-kyeom (The Mountain God) the truth about her death. A flashback shows Mak-soon (Hae-na’s past self) leading the royal guards to Cho-young.

On the other hand, Soo-hyun (Sae-won’s past self) convinces a guard to let him go after learning that Mak-soon is pregnant. Just when the guards find Cho-young, Soo-hyun shows up and saves her and Mak-soon. They run off to the cliff where Soo-hyun uses his sword to kill all the guards.

However, the judiciary chief sends in more guards who start firing arrows at the trio to kill Cho-young. Soo-hyun tries his best to save Cho-young and even gets shot with a poisonous arrow for his troubles. The Mountain God watches this from afar and assumes that Soo-hyun is trying to kill Cho-young. He rushes to the cliff but Cho-young uses Soo-hyun’s sword to kill herself.

Cho-young asks Mak-soon to save her baby because she is sacrificing her life. Soo-hyun also ends up dying and asks Mak-soon to tell their child about him after it is born. The Mountain God arrives at the cliff and finds Cho-young’s dead body there. Present day, Ji-ah tells Bo-kyeom that Cho-young had sacrificed her life to save Mak-soon’s baby.

Bo-kyeom is heartbroken but finally learns the truth. He is upset with Cho-young/Ji-ah for not thinking about him but concludes that Seo-won and Hae-na are not at fault. He stops the hound dogs from attacking the couple. With this, Hae-na regains her memories back and hugs Seo-won as the episode comes to an end.

The Episode Review

There is so much that does not make sense with this episode but at least it is all over. The show has aired for 12 weeks in total and just like the other fans watching this show, I am desperately waiting for this one to end next week so we can all put this to rest!

I am so disappointed how it all boils down to a misunderstanding on Bo-kyeom’s part that made him go through such an extent. With the conflict resolved in this episode, I am not sure what will happen in the season finale next Wednesday. From what we see in the promo, we can see a filler episode with Hae-na and Seo-won’s romance blossoming while Ji-ah goes around looking for Bo-kyeom.
