A Bloody Lucky Day – K-drama Episode 3 Recap & Review

Everything Comes With a Price

Episode 3 of A Bloody Lucky Day starts with Mr Baek meeting with Soon-kyu to deliver the gun. He thinks that what she is about to do is a bad idea and advises her only to use the gun as a last resort. She agrees to follow his advice and sets the map to lead him to Mokpo while Mr Baek leaves to investigate the boats smuggling out of Mokpo and tell him the information.

Meanwhile, Oh Taek begs for his life from Hyuk-soo and agrees to drive him to Mokpo. Hyuk-soo forces him to help care for the two bodies when Oh Taek notices one is still alive. He begs Hyuk-soo not to kill him, and he agrees… but at a price.

Hyuk-soo pulls one of Oh Taek’s fingernails and agrees to have Oh Taek drive with the barely alive man at the back of his taxi. On the way, Hyuk-soo continues to tell his story.

Hyuk-soo says that after his first murder, he felt like he had finally found his calling. He was born to kill. His first victims were people he regarded as useless without people to look for them. The scene shows him stalking and killing three different homeless men. However, killing these people did not feel satisfying since there was no mention of it anywhere. Therefore, he yearned for more thrill and a sense of accomplishment.

In this state of feeling unfulfilled, he saw Nam Yoon-ho on television. He calls him a “mama’s boy” who should have known better than to say “I love you mom” on national television. Yoon-ho became his new target, and he started stalking him. Unlike his other victims, Yoon-ho had a family that loved him, and the police could go after him. However, Hyuk-soo thought of a different plan of getting Yoon-ho to kill himself.

Hyuk-soo continuously stalks Yoon-ho and finds out that he is a closeted gay man. Therefore, he tries to make him come out by posting made-up comments online that Yoon-ho assaulted his ex-lover and bullied kids in high school. The toxic social media took the story and made it viral, and students at the university where he was running for president turned against him. However, his trick does not work.

Yoon-ho continues his studies, and the social media hype dies down. Therefore, Hyuk-soo delivers the kill by asking his doctor for many medicines. He mixes different types into a water bottle that looks like Yoon-ho’s. He finds him at the university’s library and exchanges the bottles. He gives Yoon-ho the drugged water continuously until he starts to hallucinate.

Hyk-soo starts to appear to Yoon-ho, whispering to him that he should die. He talks to his friend about it, but everyone thinks he is crazy and the man who follows him is not real. Yoon-ho’s friend does not believe him, and in the next scene, his mother finds him dead at his apartment.

Hyuk-soo goes to the funeral, and watching people mourn makes him feel great satisfaction. The police tell Soon-kyu that their investigations show that Yoon-ho committed suicide. They show his mother the secret bulletin of people insulting her son because he is gay. She feels responsible for not realising that her son was struggling.

However, when she goes through Yoon-ho’s phone, she notices texts sent to his friend Yi-deun saying that someone is following him and that he will not stop until he is dead. Soon-kyu meets us with Yi-deun to ask about the texts.

Yi-den says that Yoon-ho went to the police, but they did not follow up since he had no evidence that the man following him was real. Yi-den thinks someone might have been following Yoon-ho and shows Soon-kyu an online clip with a shot of the man watching him from outside the restaurant. Soon-kyu promises Yi-deun that he will find the man who killed Yoon-ho and make him pay.

A police officer orders Oh Taek’s taxi to slow down. Hyuk-soo asks for Oh Taek’s wallet and uses a photo of Ohsi’s family to threaten him. He tells Oh Taek that if he gets caught, he will get a maximum of ten years for the man in the trunk since he will plead insanity. After he gets out of prison, he will find Oh Taek and his family and kill every one of them, including the in-laws if the children will be married and the grandchildren. He orders Oh Taek to make the police go away.

The police are following up on a drunk driving report filed by another driver when Oh Taek was intentionally driving recklessly to get the other driver’s attention and ask for help. The police find out that he is not drunk, and he almost manages to send them away. However, before driving off, they notice that the boot is unlocked, so they ask Oh Taek to leave the vehicle.

Oh Taek had left the boot unlocked to give the injured man a chance to escape when he slowed down. The police officer stands aside, waiting to see Oh Taek Open and close the boot to avoid any accidents on the road. Oh, Taek is saved by the report about the murder of the camper, and he shuts the boot when the police are distracted. They ask him to drive safely to Mokpo and hurry up to follow up on the report. The injured man in the boot asks Oh Taek not to trust Hyuk-soo. He will kill them both as soon as they arrive at the port.

Hyuk-soo applauds Oh Taek’s acting and asks him to get back in the car so they can drive the rest of the way to Mokpo. On the way, they argue about right and wrong, rewards for being good, and punishment for evil. Hyuk-soo believes life is unfair and only the lucky get the rewards regardless of whether they are good or evil. Oh Taek holds that there are ethics that people should follow in life, and Hyuk-soo will get his punishment someday.

Soon-kyu sends the photos he found in Hyuk-soo’s room to Joong-min. Coincidentally, the news reports a murder on the higher to Mokpo, and he remembers Soon-kyu telling him that the person she thinks is responsible for his son’s death is running away and on the way to Mokpo. He looks through the photos while Soon-kyu comes across a murder scene on the highway and decides to take a look.

Following Soon-kyu’s hunch, Joong-min checks the surveillance footage and the hospital and is convinced that the person in the café video of Yoon-ho and the man at the hospital might be the same. Meanwhile, Oh Taek makes a decisive attempt to be a coward and a weakling no longer and changes the route to Mokpo following a police car. He intends to report Hyuk-soo, but a fight ensues between them in the car, leading to a crash.

The Episode Review

The episode delves into the background of Soon-kyu’s connection to the case. The viewers get to understand how Hyuk-soo tortures Yoon-ho to the point of potentially committing suicide just for the thrill of getting an article about him. It shows just how twisted Hyuk-soo’s mind is as he is devoid of any feelings of remorse.

Weirdly, he proudly says that his calling is to kill, which he does and narrates about ecstatically. However, did Yoon-ho commit suicide, or did Hyuk-soo have something to do with his death? The police are finally catching up on the serial murder plot since they are always a few steps behind, like in every police procedure plot, but will they be able to link Hyuk-soo to all the murders he has committed so far? The race to get the psychotic killer begins, and hopefully, it will be more thrilling than riding in a taxi to Mokpo telling gruesome murder stories.
