8 More Spooky Thrillers To Play!

Dead Space is a well-acclaimed sci-fi horror game. This game features a gripping plot, fun plot twists, and a chilling atmosphere. This game does an excellent job at making you stress over the minimalist things. Whether it’s exploring its darkened setting or hunting its menacing Necromorphs, gamers will find its gameplay bone-chilling and satisfying.

If you’ve finished playing Dead Space and are looking for alternatives – fret not! We’ve combed through the archives and saved you the hassle with our top 8 picks.

Of course, for all the games we’ve reviewed, we’ve also added a handy link, so you can check out our full thoughts on that and see if it’s something you want to invest your time in.

So without further ado, we present 8 games to check out if you’re looking for a game like Dead Space.

Evil West

Evil West gives players a wicked wild west experience. This game can be experienced solo or with a partner. In it, you’ll play as a masculine bounty hunter who must defeat supernatural adversaries who threaten the American Frontier. This game relies on its somewhat linear storytelling and brutal combat to appeal to its audience.

The horror isn’t anything too terrifying. It feels more in line with the content you’d find in an exceptional horror film. Evil West offers some explorative capabilities in its gameplay. As you progress through the campaign, you’ll unlock new weapons and perks that will assist you in your endeavor. These add value to your time with the game, making it more enjoyable and rewarding to play.

On the other hand, it feels like a game that should’ve been released on the Xbox 360. Its storytelling and voice acting isn’t the greatest, and fans will adore it more for its fast-paced gameplay mechanics. If this ever goes on sale, I’d recommend picking it up and playing it with your friend or family member.

Cold Fear

Cold Fear is a hidden gem from the PS2 era. It’s a third-person shooter game where you control a Coast Guard veteran named Tom. He boards the vessel and must endure the unbelievable atrocities lying within. This game will make you feel like you’re lost in a sea of mystery with its ghostly atmosphere.

In addition, the ship you traverse occasionally rocks, affecting the way you move and interact with the ship and its haunting monstrosities.  The creatures you’ll fight on the ship have stellar designs that match the world’s gritty setting. Gamers will love using the game’s diverse weapon selection to lay waste to the enemies on board the ship.

From clever traps to your typical shotguns, there are many ways to defeat your foes. Of course, the game doesn’t have the best graphics compared to titles that release today. However, if you’re looking for a fun-filled horror game with a spooky atmosphere, Cold Fear’s worth trying out.

Bioshock Remastered

The Bioshock franchise left quite an impact on gamers. The first game’s cherished as one of its best entries. It offers a chilling atmosphere, a dark and immersive setting, and a wonderful cast. In it, you control Jack, who winds up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean due to a plane crash.

He seeks refuge at a nearby pillar, leading him to the underwater city called Rapture, and this is where his maddening journey begins. Rapture is a well-crafted world with many pretty sights and intriguing pathways to traverse. Characters like Andrew Ryan and the misunderstood Big Daddy will leave a lasting impression on everyone who plays the game.

The gameplay offers a nice variety. You can choose to defeat enemies with typical SMGs or utilize Jack’s supernatural plasmid powers. Either way, Bioshock’s gameplay offers players great combat and traversal options. If you’re looking for a first-person shooter game with an engrossing narrative, mesmerizing world, and stellar characters, check out Bioshock Remastered.

Alan Wake Remastered

Alan Wake is an excellent survival horror game. It harbors incredible visuals, a chilling atmosphere, and a fun protagonist. In it, we follow Alan, a well-acclaimed writer who explores a town called Bright Falls after his wife disappears during their vacation. Alan will endure much paranoia due to his wife’s absence as he desperately tries piecing together what happened to her.

This game includes some riveting plot twists and cliffhangers in its storytelling. You’ll traverse numerous locales while picking up small clues from the game’s characters. Newcomers should conserve as much ammo and battery power as possible while traversing this game’s world. Enemies get progressively harder over time, enticing players to use their equipment wisely and skillfully.

While it isn’t a masterpiece, Alan Wake Remastered is a stellar third-person horror title that’s worth your time.

Alien: Isolation

Alien Isolation is a phenomenal horror game with great stealth gameplay. Although most movie-based games aren’t spectacular, this one is worth your investment. Alien Isolation’s chilling atmosphere and horrid Xenomorph enemies will instill fear in you. In it, we follow Amanda Ripley, who wants to know what happened to her mother while she was aboard a run-down space station.

Onboard the ship, Amanda encounters a random Xenomorph, with a hunger for human meat. You must navigate Amanda through several spooky locales to help her escape the monster’s wrath. The xenomorphs aren’t the only enemies Amanda will encounter in Alien Isolation. You’ll meet some mentally-broken humans and strange robotic enemies that are best left alone.

The game supplies the player with an adequate arsenal. You can’t go into each situation gun-blazing when you attain a pistol or other weapon, though. Therefore, it’s best to utilize what you have when the time calls for it. If you’re after a game with incredible horror elements and stealth-like gameplay, check out Alien: Isolation.

Dino Crisis (Series)

Capcom is sitting on many series fans want to see sequels of including Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and Dino Crisis. Dino Crisis is a survival-themed action-adventure game that places you against a horde of menacing dinosaurs. Each entry features a great plot, stellar gameplay, and a horrific world for you to traverse.

During your journey, you’ll stumble upon numerous puzzles to complete. The puzzles aren’t too challenging for hardcore gamers, but casual audiences may find themselves pondering for several minutes. Like Dead Space, Dino Crisis likes putting players in tight and tense scenarios. The game’s chilling atmosphere adds to this illusion wonderfully, allowing players to feel immersed.

The dinosaurs may not frighten most players, but your encounters with them will be memorable. The second entry tends to stray toward an action-heavy route than its first, but each game feels wonderful to play. Give this series a shot if you’re looking for an intriguing dinosaur-filled game to play.

The Evil Within (Series)

Shinji Mikami is better known for Resident Evil than The Evil Within. However, fans shouldn’t overlook the latter. It contains a fun plot, and horrifying visuals, and knows how to build tension. The Evil Within centers around Sebastian, a detective who explores a world reaping sorrow and anxiety.

Like Dead Space, The Evil Within contains phenomenal monsters for you to interact with. These creatures’ designs will send shivers down anyone’s spine with their horrid looks and creepy mannerisms. There are a few scares incorporated within the title that will make you jump out of your seat.

You’ll feel like someone is monitoring your every move, and the lack of heavy ammunition will make you feel vulnerable. Expect to flee from this game’s entries than face them head-on. If you’re looking for a third-person shooter game with clever scares, challenges, and twists, check out The Evil Within 1 and 2.

Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 is regarded as one of the best entries in the franchise. Since 2005, fans have been clamoring for a re-release. Thankfully, Capcom has answered the prayers as a new entry is on the horizon. However, if you’re feeling impatient, the original game’s been ported onto several gaming systems, so it’s easily accessible.

If you haven’t played the game, it follows a U.S. agent named Leon. He’s one of the protagonists of the earlier Resident Evil games. Anyway, Leon embarks on a mission to save the President’s daughter from a cult. Leon’s mission won’t be a simple one. He must overcome numerous foes from chainsaw-wielding cultists to regenerating monsters.

Despite having some quirky dialogue and weird plot moments, this game promises players a grand time. If you love slaying the undead and adored Dead Space’s chilling atmosphere, you’re bound to love Resident Evil 4.
