60 Minutes (2024) Ending Explained – Does Octavio get to his daughter in time?

60 Minutes Plot Summary

In 60 Minutes, an MMA fighter finds out that he only has one hour to get to his daughter’s birthday party; if he does not, his ex-wife and lawyer are going to draw up the paperwork to have her have sole custody of their daughter, Leonie. The main character of the movie, Octavio, learns all of this right before he is about to enter the octagon for a fight. He backs out at the last minute and now has to outrun many unhappy people who had money on the fight in the streets of Berlin.

Why does Octavio have to make it to the birthday party?

It seems that Leonie’s birthday party coincided with a fight he had scheduled. It’s easy to think what a foolish thing to do. He’s no superstar fighter, but he owns a gym for MMA fighters. We seem to have learned that he has ties to organized crime. So little girl birthday party or not, he is forced into tough scenarios like this.

His plan is to get through the fight, then hop in a car and be brought to his daughter’s party. However, as he is all taped up and ready to go out and fight, He gets a phone call. He answers it via a Bluetooth earpiece and learns he has 60 minutes to get back to his ex-wife’s house or else she will sign the paperwork to have full custody of their daughter. So he bails on the fight.

Who is after Octavio?

At first, his manager, Paul, tries to hunt him down and get him back into the ring to fight. However, some gangsters are in hot pursuit of Octavio as he runs out into the streets of Berlin, trying to make it to his daughter’s birthday party.

He’s being pursued by Chino and his goons, and through numerous chases and fights, he learns through a phone call with Paul that the fight was rigged, and now all these criminals are owed 75 grand because of his stunt.

What does Octavio have to buy before the party?

Throughout this whole mess, he has to pick up a cake for her, which then gets ruined in the middle of a fight. Later on, after a stab wound, he stops off at an animal shelter to buy a kitten for her. But it is there that he runs into Chino and his men again, creating a big mismatch that has him getting out alive once again, and now he must make his way to the birthday party that is only a few blocks down the road from his last altercation.

What happens when Octavio arrives at the birthday party?

At this point, he is battered and bruised, and he has a taped-up stab wound across his gut, yet he shows up with a kitten in hand for Leonie. Octavio collapses on the walkway to his ex’s home. Leonie rushes over to be with her dad, who’s still alive but very exhausted. The whole film is a metaphor for what men can go through at times just to provide for their children. The key word there is metaphor.

Hopefully, most of us are not on the run from the mob. We then do see Octavio’s ex-wife seem to have a change of heart as she waves off her lawyer, signaling she does not want to go through with taking the most important thing in the world from him. We leave the film thinking that Octavio will be making some changes in his life to be there for his daughter more often than not.
