Following the conclusion of Zack Snyder’s storylines in the DCverse, the filmmaker finally brings to life his 10-year project, Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire’. Set in a war-torn galaxy, the farming community of Veldt seek out the help of rebels to protect themselves when they earn the wrath of Motherworld’s admiral, Atticus Noble. With Kora leading the rebel group, viewers couldn’t help but recall similar such movies.

Particularly Star Wars, Seven Samurai, The Creator, Sucker Punch and Dune. Well, where would the fun be in that if we did the same, so after looking high and low, we have found some more diverse and high-energy sci-fi adventures and action movies.

While Rebel Moon takes place in space and other worlds, the Transformers series takes the fight of Veldt vs Motherworld and brings it to Earth in the form of Autobots trying to defend Earth from the Decepticons.

And with them, join a ragtag group of humans such as Sam, Captain Lennox, Mikaela, Simmons and the Yeagers. Well in the first movie, Sam Witwicky runs into the Autobots and they are forced to ally as they realise he has the location of the AllSpark that can make or break worlds.


Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Much like Rebel Moon, the Star Trek film series also follows a small group of humans who go about dealing with strange occurrences throughout the galaxy and protecting lives from dangerous beings. Well, the first film, Star Trek: The Motion Picture begins with Kirk commandeering the spaceship, USS Enterprise and investigating the mysterious V’Ger, a cloud that seems to be heading for Earth while destroying everything in its path.


Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)

Like Rebel Moon, this one is set in the future where space travel has become the norm. Enter Kora-like soldiers, Valerian and Laureline who spend their days busy maintaining order. For their latest mission, they have to head to Alpha, home to several species and surprise surprise, they are faced with a mysterious threat that causes chaos. In trying to save Alpha, Valerian and Laureline end up uncovering a conspiracy that could lead to extinction.


Lord of The Rings

Well since Rebel Moon is inspired by Star Wars which is inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy Lord of The Rings, it only makes sense to add this to the list. When the dangerous Dark Lord, Sauron’s powerful One Ring lands in the hands of the hobbit Frodo Baggins, he must head to Mount Doom, Sauron’s home and destroy it.

Frodo sets out with a fellowship comprising humans, elves, wizards, dwarves and hobbits but their journey is fraught with perilous obstacles and battles.


Jupiter Ascending (2015)

Set on the alien planet of Pandora, Avatar follows Jake Sully, a paraplegic ex-Marine who is brought by a mining corporation to Pandora to operate an avatar, a genetically engineered body of the Na’vi, the planet’s indigenous species. As he immerses himself in the Na’vi culture, Jake falls in love with Neytiri, a Na’vi princess.

Conflicts arise as the human corporation threatens Pandora’s ecosystem for a rare mineral. Jake becomes torn between his loyalty to the humans and his growing connection to the Na’vi, ultimately leading to a battle for Pandora’s future.

Initially thinking it’s a gig, the cast soon realizes the situation’s seriousness and must use their show’s knowledge to navigate the very real space mission to stop the big bad baddie.


Ender’s Game (2013)

In a future where Earth is preparing for a potential war against an alien species called the Formics, young Ender Wiggin is recruited into a military training program at a young age. He exhibits exceptional strategic skills and is trained by Colonel Graff to become a brilliant military leader.

As Ender gets ready to battle the Formics, his tactical brilliance leads to a change of heart when he realises the true motive of the training program much like Kora in Rebel Moon.

Anyone else get deja vu from Kora and Balisarius whose relationship seems very much like Thanos and Gamora? Well in the Infinity Saga, Avengers: Endgame is quite similar to Rebel Moon Part 1 as the remaining Avengers, driven by Scott Lang decide to undo Thanos’ snap that wiped out half of all life in the universe. They embark on a time-travel mission to retrieve the Infinity Stones from different points in the past and restore balance to the universe.
