Super Mario Odyssey is Mario’s recent 3D platforming adventure that received immense praise from fans and critics alike. It involves Mario exploring multiple kingdoms in hopes of rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser’s clutches. This adventure takes Mario to all types of locales from large deserts to beautiful beaches and mesmerizing oceans.

Like Jak and Daxter, this game’s kingdoms are expansive and brimming with enough citizens, scenery, and wildlife to avoid feeling dull. Furthermore, both games feature dynamic and acrobatic gameplay mechanics. In Jak and Daxter, players can perform a range of moves, including double jumps, rolls, and glide attacks to overcome obstacles and defeat foes.

Super Mario Odyssey delivers a similar level of agility, with Mario capable of performing jumps, rolls, wall jumps, and even possessing various objects or enemies and using their powers to complete missions. In addition to incorporating a collectible-driven gameplay structure via its Power Moons, Super Mario Odyssey is a great modern platform game that will leave you entertained.

Ape Escape (Series)

Ape Escape is another fabulous 3D platformer from the PlayStation era. However, this one provides players with something unique regarding its analog stick controls and premise. In it, you’ll help the game’s protagonist capture numerous monkeys led by the evil mastermind ape Spector. Like Jak and Daxter, this game features vibrant and imaginative worlds for players to explore. Jak and Daxter features lush jungles and vast oceans while Ape Escape has fun prehistoric landscapes, amusement parks, and outer space.

Furthermore, Ape Escape and Jak and Daxter feature unique gameplay mechanics that set them apart from traditional platformers. While you’ll utilize different forms and abilities in Jak and Daxter, Ape Escape provides players with numerous gadgets they’ll use to identify and capture monkeys.

On top of having an ensemble line-up of compelling characters, Ape Escape is a solid platformer many Jak and Daxter fans will adore.

However, if you’re looking for a platformer with better visuals and polished animations, I’d recommend giving Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart a go.

Sly Cooper (Series)

Sly Cooper is a cherished PlayStation icon like Jak and Daxter. He has a lovely group of comrades and enemies who are just as memorable and entertaining as the people Jak and Daxter encounter throughout their games. Although this game adds a layer of stealth-like mechanics to its gameplay to stand out, its world, characters, and gameplay are relatively similar to Jak and Daxter’s.

Firstly, both games deliver immersive and diverse areas fans will enjoy exploring through. Sly Cooper’s landscapes consist of intricate museums, bustling cities, and mysterious temples. This is to coincide with Sly’s thief-like persona and the game’s overall criminal and noir atmosphere.

Sly’s chemistry with Bentley and Murray is on par with Jak’s bond with Daxter. Both groups will do whatever it takes to look after the other, showcasing how tight of a connection they have. In addition to having enjoyable puzzle and platforming sections, Sly Cooper is a great alternative to Jak and Daxter.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is a new installment featuring the beloved PlayStation icon Crash Bandicoot. This game came out during Crash’s rebirth period and was loved by many fans and newcomers alike. Like Jak and Daxter, this game features a stellar combination of platforming challenges, exploration, and combat elements.

It involves Crash and his allies traveling through multi-dimensional levels filled with obstacles, enemies, and collectibles. As with his older titles, players must help Crash and his friends navigate through carefully designed levels, perform precise jumps, and defeat enemies to progress. Secondly, both games feature a variety of power-ups and abilities that’ll enhance one’s gameplay experience.

From Jak’s Dark Echo abilities to Crash’s Quantum Masks, you’re in for a treat with the amount of mind-numbing you’ll have with their distinct powers. Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a great game that offers remade versions of Spyro’s first-three endeavors. Like Jak and Daxter, this game features similar gameplay mechanics, platforming elements, and vibrant fantasy worlds.

In all three Spyro games, you’ll control Spyro, as he traverses various levels, glides, and collects gems and dragon eggs to progress. Similarly, in Jak and Daxter players control Jak, who embarks on a journey through different expansive environments, utilizing a range of abilities, and collecting precursor orbs.

Secondly, both games feature vibrant and imaginative settings for players to explore. Each world from the Dragon Realms to the Forgotten Worlds in Spy Reignited Trilogy offers players enough content to warrant their attention. These locales echo the fun you’d have exploring areas like Sandover Village and Haven City in the Jak and Daxter games.

If you enjoy games with satisfying action-centric gameplay, Spyro Reignited Trilogy is worth every penny.

This game features a variety of collectibles like Jak and Daxter too. In Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, players collect Thunder Eggs, which will assist them in unlocking new levels and progressing in the game. This is reminiscent of Jak and Daxter’s precursor orbs, power cells, and the other valuable items you need to get to progress in their adventure.

In addition to having fabulous areas for you to explore, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger is a must-play for anyone who enjoys platformers.

Conker’s Bad Fur Day

Conker’s Bad Fur Day is an obscene platforming gem from the Nintendo 64 era. Where you had Banjo-Kazooie and Super Mario 64 being delightful titles to play with your children, Bad Fur Day was a raunchy and explicit title that was made for an adult audience. Nevertheless, this is a mature 3D platformer title that’ll appeal to those who loved Jak and Daxter’s games.

Firstly, both games feature comedic and satirical elements that add to their world’s humorous tone. Conker comes off as a foul-mouthed individual who gets roped into crude and comical situations that match his poor attitude. This game’s filled with enough parodies, explicit jokes, and references to keep you hooked.

Some of Conker’s banter with his game’s supporting cast will remind folks of Jak and Daxter’s witty remarks in their titles. Furthermore, both games offer a nice balance of platforming and action-adventure elements. Both games feature enough puzzles, hazardous obstacles, and villains to keep you occupied.

In addition to having multiple diverse worlds, Conker’s Bad Fur Day is a must-play.

Like Jak and Daxter, this game offers a wide range of abilities and challenges to overcome. Throughout Hat Kid’s journey, she gains access to different hats that allow her to perform different moves from sprinting to manipulating time itself. These will assist her in stopping the game’s enemies and bypassing this world’s many hurdles and obstacles.

Both games deliver immersive settings that aren’t too similar to each other. From spooky forests to movie sets, Hat Kid explores many colorful and imaginative worlds gamers will find appealing.

On top of having a fun and respectable storyline, A Hat In Time is a fabulous 3D platformer that’s worth your time.
