Made In Abyss

Similarities – Adventure & Fantasy

Delicious In Dungeon isn’t the only modern fantasy anime featuring a cast of characters who delve into the depths of a mysterious locale. Enter Made In Abyss, an anime that looks adorable on the surface, but gets darker the more our characters explore the abyss at the center of their world. This anime follows Riko, a young explorer who stumbles upon a robot child named Reg during one of her expeditions.

After obtaining some know-how from a higher-up regarding her mother’s absence, Riko and Reg embark on a dangerous yet endearing journey through their world’s mysterious abyss in search of the truth. Much like Delicious In Dungeon, this anime features great action segments, fascinating world-building, and wonderful character moments that’ll melt your heart.

Yet, if you’re someone who doesn’t like seeing children get tortured, you may want to stay clear of this anime. Otherwise, give this one a go!

Campfire Cooking In Another World with My Absurd Skill

Similarities – Fantasy, Adventure, Food Shenanigans

While Delicious In Dungeon has incredible world-building, it features fascinating character-bonding segments that’ll entice audiences to chuckle and smile. The cooking segments, in particular, are a great example of that. Campfire Cooking In Another World with My Absurd Skill is another anime that includes compelling moments of that variety.

Animated by Mappa Studios, this isekai anime follows Mukoda, a human who finds himself in a fantasy world. Unlike others who’ve mysteriously teleported here, Mukoda doesn’t receive the greatest ability imaginable. He’s left with an “Online Grocery” skill that allows him to shop for ingredients and other materials. Fortunately, a chance encounter with a magical wolf named Fel gives Mukoda the luxurious, fantasy lifestyle he’s been after.

Delicious In Dungeon fans shouldn’t go into this anime expecting a complex narrative with rich character development. Instead, viewers should check this anime out if they seek a comfy show filled with satisfying adventure, cooking, and heartfelt moments.

Restaurant To Another World

Similarities – Cooking & Fantasy

If Laios and Senshi ever decided to part ways from the dungeon-venturing lifestyle, we anticipate they’d live a life like the characters in Restaurant To Another World. In this fantasy series, we observe the daily happenings of a puzzling Japanese eatery. While the restaurant mirrors those found in our world, this establishment’s fantastical portal helps it stand out.

Essentially, this gateway opens up at the end of each week, allowing customers from different universes to visit this esteemed yet ominous eatery. Much like the anthropomorphic monsters that Laios and his friends meet, fans will love the varied guests that come and go within this establishment. It gives the anime a wonderful flair as each guest has a story to share with this place’s workers.

Give this anime a watch if you’re searching for another anime that’ll entice you to indulge in a tasty meal.

Today’s Menu For The Emiya Family

Similarities – Cooking & Fantasy

Despite Delicious In Dungeon pivoting toward the darker route of things (as of this writing), many fans stumbled upon the show because of its charming cooking aspects. While these sequences are a joy to watch, others appreciate that Delicious In Dungeon delivers an authentic portrayal of food prep. While most meals in this anime can’t be replicated in real life, it’s still a solid detail worth acknowledging.

Today’s Menu For The Emiyya Family grants audiences a similar experience. This anime is set in the beloved Fate universe and features characters from Fate preparing delectable meals for themselves and others. Through these activities, fans will grow to appreciate the art of Japanese dishes and may develop closer ties to Fate’s cherished roster of individuals.

On top of having incredible character-bonding segments and colorful visuals, Delicious In Dungeon fans should add this anime to their watchlist.

Record of Lodoss War

Similarities – Adventure & Fantasy

Stepping away from the food side of things; fans should check out the fantasy classic Record of Lodoss War. This gem features a world rich in culture, action, and adventure. Like Delicious In Dungeon, Record of Lodoss War examines a group of warriors. Each member has a different background and ability that’ll help fans remember them.

Together, our heroes must conquer an evil sorceress before she can fill their world with chaos. Delicious In Dungeon and Record of Lodoss War offer viewers a finely-detailed world that introduces them to new living organisms. The details are told steadily, allowing folks to attain data on the fascinating beings present in the narrative. Additionally, both anime have compelling visuals and animation.

Although Record of Lodoss War is an oldie, unlike Delicious In Dungeon, many of its lively action and dramatic segments hold up. If you’re after another fantasy anime with wonderful imagery, a fascinating ecosystem, and enjoyable duels, give Record of Lodoss War a go.

Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits

Similarities – Fantasy & Cooking

Delicious In Dungeon feels like an anime that can hook anyone. It contains energetic fights that’ll appease action junkies and calming eating segments that’ll heal those who are undergoing stress. On that note, the latter crowd may find Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits to their liking.

This anime doesn’t deliver the most jaw-dropping visuals nor contain solid depth for its cast and world. It’s a simple, feel-good anime that’ll put viewers’ minds at ease. In it, we follow Tsubaki, a girl gifted with the power to see otherworldly entities. Occasionally, Tsubaki gives these spirits a fine meal to prevent them from stirring up trouble. One day, Tsubaki gets teleported to a different world and meets Oodanna, an Innkeeper, who tries to force Tsubaki to marry him.

As anticipated, Tsubaki declines and plans to repay Oodanna by opening an eatery at his Inn. While this anime’s plot doesn’t provide anything groundbreaking, it exceptionally showcases the wonders of cuisine and how it can wonderfully impact one’s mood. In addition to having a cast of likable personalities, Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits is worth a binge.

Hakumei And Mikochi

Similarities – Fantasy & Atmosphere

Many people adore fantasy anime because it introduces them to worlds filled with distinct environments, cultures, and atmospheres. Where some shows lean toward the thrilling spectrum of things, others fantastical works teeter toward the pleasant route. One such anime that follows the latter’s path is Hakumei and Mikochi.

This short, adorable fantasy series follows two miniature females named Hakumei and Mikochi. Both live in the same residence but have distinct traits and jobs, allowing audiences to resonate with either girl. Much like Laios and his friends, these girls are explorers at heart. They participate in many fun excursions throughout this series, from interacting with their forest’s wildlife to interacting with shopkeepers in their area.

Both shows are wonderful examples of why one must explore life for its secrecies and beauty.

Little Witch Academia

Similarities – Fantasy, Comedy, Adventure

Before Delicious In Dungeon, Trigger Studios was known for creating original productions. While there were a few duds, many of their originals struck audiences’ core, giving them experiences that’d last a lifetime. Little Witch Academia is an anime that accomplished this task. This anime’s tale revolves around a young, aspiring witch named Atsuko (or Akko).

Akko attends a marvelous school called Luna Nova Magical Academy, where she hopes to become a fabulous mage like her role model, Shiny Chariot. Unfortunately, Akko lacks magical capabilities, making matters difficult for her. Thankfully, she’ll have allies like Lotte and Sucy to cheer her on when times get tough. This anime will likely appeal to those who adore Delicious In Dungeon characters like Falin and Marcille.

Although Akko isn’t as talented as those two, her upbeat, comical personality makes her a fascinating female lead in Little Witch Academia. Additionally, Akko and her friends fend off many formidable sorcerers and beasts that evoke similar vibes to the combat found in Delicious In Dungeon. Next to having phenomenal visuals and fluid animation, Little Witch Academia will entertain you.

Slayers

Similarities – Fantasy, Comedy, Adventure

Record of Lodoss War isn’t the only retro recommendation we want audiences to watch. Enter Slayers, an anime that predates many modern parodic shows like Konosuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World with its parodic take on RPGs and the fantasy genre. Like Delicious In Dungeon, Slayers follows a group of powerful, quirky individuals who go on a journey full of thrills, wealth, and succulent meals.

However, Slayers’s cast is more interested in the wealth aspect of the journey. Nonetheless, our protagonist, Lina, and her friends demonstrate excellent abilities throughout their endeavors, conquering several foes with a swing of a sword or through a barrage of powerful spells. Additionally, Slayers’s comedy is top-notch.

Like Delicious In Dungeon, this anime contains wonderful slapstick, gags, and jokes that’ll tickle fans’ funny bones. On top of both anime having phenomenal English dubs, Slayers is a wonderful retro series worth checking out.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

Similarities – Fantasy, Adventure, Atmosphere

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was a spectacle when it aired. It gave life to a genre oversaturated with a plethora of isekai-centric content from the anime spectrum. More importantly, it instilled hope that future fantasy series can offer refreshing experiences. Next to having a female elf lead who was a blast to follow due to her wonderful characteristics, it’s no wonder folks feel Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was one of 2023’s best anime yet.

Nevertheless, this fantasy tale follows Frieren, a powerful mage who embarks on an enchanting and thought-provoking quest with her apprentice Fern. During their travels, Frieren will recount old memories of her fallen comrades and meet the enemies they defeated during those travels. Ultimately, Frieren hopes to reach an enchanting land called Ende to share a few words with Himmel, an ally she values greatly.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Delicious In Dungeon feature fascinating worlds, rich in diversity and complexity. Both anime offer ounces of comedy, drama, and action segments to keep audiences glued to their screens. Ultimately, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a must-watch if you’re a die-hard fantasy lover.
