Zombieverse – Season 2 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

The End Is Nigh

Episode 7 of Zombieverse season 2 starts in the aftermath of Sung-jae’s sacrifice. The Z-220 tallest zombie has been neutralized but it comes at a big cost for the group. With one of their own hurt, the others find themselves caught in an arena with Andre. Of course, he’s no longer human but their memories together on Jeju Island is not to be forgotten. Well, kinda anyway.

In the midst of this, the gang are forced to dance their way out of trouble. Sae-ho is killed for his troubles (which kinda serves him right for the terrible dance moves!) while Dindin also finds himself bitten.

Taeyeon and Si-young find a secret wall and goad Andre into smashing into it, giving them a way through and, subsequently, killing Andre too. In the aftermath of this, the group are all joined as one, and they assess the damage. Shin Hyun-joon has high-tailed it away, although the others realize that he must be some sort of zombie collector. Given all the zombies had nametags on, he’s been adding them to his collection.

Now, obviously there are a number of people infected and only two vials found in the carnage. This brings up a dilemma over who they should take with them and whether trekking to the National Medical Center is even worth the challenge. Now, if they inject themselves with Hong-chul’s blood, it’ll make them immune to zombification. It’s basically a makeshift vaccine, but if they inject themselves with both, it would mean they won’t be able to save humanity. So if one vial goes to the medical center… who gets the other?

The group make their decision and choose Dindin. As he injects himself with the vial, the others turn into zombies. However, it turns out there’s a third vial here hidden from the others. This means another can be saved. After Sae-Ho’s unconventional (and shameless) antics, they choose to save him and say goodbye to the others.

A whole horde of zombies show up and begin chasing the group all the way up to the rooftop. They have no choice as the zombies try to follow them, and they scramble over a drawbridge set up. No, there’s no Takeshi’s Castle antics with dodging balls, but instead they need to swing the bridge from side to side to make the approaching zombies fall. I mean, I’m not sure why they don’t just hang on the other side and cut the bridge but there we go!

All the big players are here, including Andre who awakens from a big sleep and immediately falls off the edge in a genuinely hilarious moment given the build-up to his return.

Up on the bridge, Sae-ho falls while Sung-jae returns as a zombie and demands Eum-bi. However, Dindin sacrifices himself to save the rest of the group. Hyun-joon has had enough and crosses the bridge regardless, demanding the group hand over the bag. Eventually they do just that…but he falls off the bridge and collapses on the ground.

The others make it down to ground level and find the vials shattered and useless. The last hope for humanity is gone… or is it? It turns out Hong-chul actually has pink blood so he too could have an immunisation to the zombie curse. This is the thinking the rest of the group have, as the survivors race over to the Medical center where this season concludes!

The Episode Review

So Zombieverse ends with another cliffhanger after a pretty mediocre finale, all things considered. This season has really doubled down on the humour, which is very much going to be a love/jate affair for many people. It’s a shame because the overarching plot and the different areas the group travel to has been much better this time around.

The inclusion of that big chat about who survives with the vials is immediately undone after when we get to the bridge exploits, with both Dindin and Sae-ho killed off anyway so it kinda renders this whole plot point moot. It also destroys the tension here too with Sae-ho’s silly antics but again, this is just Zombieverse all over!

The ending seems to imply that Hong-chul and Hyun-joon share the same blood immunity and the shots of hazmat workers in the subway hints at flashes to the future of this virus being contained and an immunity developed. However, it is a bit rushed, which is surprising given the show itself has been a very long watch.

Either way, the ending is fine, all things considered, but it could have been a lot better too.

  1. Lol. ok lets talk, i wish one of the cast read my comment tho haha! Start with Si young, Dindin & Dex, they are the real heroes, fearless, quick-witted, and smart unfortunately Dindin going down too, he must be tired be a human running away from zombies, lol. There goes CoKun, Eunbi, Sungjae, these three are young blood are strong and ripped than expected, I wish I could see more scenes from there though. Than, the scaredy cat of Taeyeon, Tsuki, Patricia, Sae Ho & Defconn, as expected from them, you guys did a good job though, lol the most fashionista zombie goes to Saeho! haha! Then Justin Harvey and Chef Rush, damn boys, you guys are another level, the chef must be a hero next time, they must cure him haha! i can see that they were using the same setting from Season 2 of Physical 100 where Siyoung and Andre met, the setting is same. Kudos to the lighting and the camerawork, it brings suspense and the music, the Blue Danube part, funny but creepy. I feel bad for the Ro Hong Chul though, he just want freedom either as a human or a zombie, he just want people to stop chasing him, but what can we do right? We are all run from a zombie lol. Overall, obviously it was semi-scripted and games, the setting, the quest, are all scripted like a series of survival show. But it’s okay. I personally enjoy this season 2. I give 8/10.. lost 2 stars because Sungjae and Dindin lost their chances. Saranghae!
