Minato’s Encounter
Episode 7 of The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons begins with Mikoto recalling the time when Uta and her family moved into the neighborhood. This was around the time when they lost their parents. Our boys meet Uta and her family, but Uta doesn’t show interest in Minato or Mikoto. After meeting Uta’s family, Minato and Gakuto are on board with becoming friends with Uta and Waka. However, Mikoto’s still on the fence.
We receive a montage of Minato trying to get Uta to become great friends with him. Mikoto suggests he and Minato become friends instead, but Minato’s not keen on that. Minato meets Uta again and Uta helps Minato avoid stepping on dog feces. Minato tells Uta that he’s a great person and Uta reveals she won’t be staying in the city for long, so there’s no point in fostering a connection with Minato. During dinner, Waka asks Saki when he’ll get to see his father again.
Saki says he’ll see him soon, but Uta knows they’ll never see their dad again if they remain in this city. Saki and Hayato discuss a few things in the morning and Hayato invites her over for cookies. During this excursion, Saki reveals Uta hasn’t been herself since Saki and her husband’s divorce. Saki admits she split from her husband because he kept having affairs. Saki feels Uta sees her actions as a reason for Uta to not see the point in befriending people.
Minato listens in on their conversation and flees after Saki reminds him of his deceased mother. Hayato shares his sentiments on the matter with Saki, stating how 10-year-olds are a lot smarter than people perceive them to be. He hopes Uta will find happiness in the city and be as cheerful as Minato. Minato rushes to the park and tells Uta that she needs to respect Saki more. Minato and Uta fight for a while. Uta reveals her grievances with her mother changing their names and not allowing her to see her father.
Minato tells Uta she should have a one-on-one chat with her mother and should be grateful she has a mother in life. Minato and Uta discuss Minato’s reasons for being an uplifting person despite his parents passing away. After hearing him out, Uta plans to discuss things with Saki. Uta asks Saki about her and her dad. Saki reveals the truth and Uta recalls times when she traveled with her father to multiple restaurants with his many female companions.
Uta asks Minato to become close friends with her and he accepts. The following day, Minato learns Uta’s a girl but says it doesn’t matter to him. In the present, Mikoto reveals those two have been best buddies since that time. However, he argues that their relationship will never be on par with his companionship with Minato.
The episode closes with Nikaido sarcastically agreeing with Mikoto.
The Episode Review
The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons continue to surprise fans with its compelling themes, relatable scenarios, and endearing cast. This chapter further delves into the Yuzuki family’s first encounter with Uta and her family. It shows viewers that Uta wasn’t keen on befriending Minato at first and reveals that she had resentment toward Saki for not letting her spend time with her father.
Divorce is a powerful topic and is an event many people have a tough time enduring. Regardless of your position on the matter, it’s a pain that no one likes sitting through. This episode shows how Saki’s divorce not only affected her but how it shaped Uta to be a person who liked to seclude herself from others.
Fortunately, Minato guided Uta down a brighter path, allowing her to see the silver lining of her situation. While the moment between her and Saki is mildly ruined through a comedic gag, many viewers will appreciate the heartfelt interaction between her and Saki.
Overall, this was a great episode. It had a great message that resonated with multiple audiences and gave fans insight into Uta and Minato’s early beginnings as friends. I’m excited to see what other events lie ahead for these families.
