Episode 10
Episode 10 of Your Honor starts with Chae-rim’s body being found in the car that was pulled from a lake. At present, Ho-young takes the gun the stranger gives him. Meanwhile, Cheong-gang receives a plane ticket to Los Angeles.
The next thing we know, Ho-young and Eun go to her house, with Ho-young rejecting all his father’s phone calls. Despite knowing everything, Gang-heon lets him stay. He calls Pan-ho and alerts him to what’s happening. Pan-ho says he’ll stop Ho-young and take him away but the boy doesn’t pick up his father’s phone calls.
Sang-hyuk arrives home and greets Ho-young. Meanwhile, So-young loses her patience and leaves a voicemail for Pan-ho, threatening to take action. Pan-ho, panicking now, calls Gang-heon and begs him to spare Ho-young but the latter says he’ll make his own decision.
The Kim family all sit down for dinner. Ma Ji-young, Gang-heon’s wife, suddenly gets a phone call from Kang So-young and goes to another room. So-young tells her everything about Ho-young and his murder of Sang-hyeon.
When Sang-hyuk asks if they’ve met before, Ho-young says they have. He saw him two years and three months ago, leaving the police station after a rape case. He reveals everything about Eun-hye and her suicide. When Sang-hyuk claims he can’t remember Eun-hye, Ho-young pulls out the gun and points it at him.
Eun begs Ho-young to stop. He shoots Sang-hyuk but another gunshot rings out. It’s Ji-young. She shoots Ho-young multiple times. Pan-ho arrives at the gates of the house just in time to hear the gunshots.
Eun scrambled to help Ho-young. He gasps out an apology but Gang-heon pulls her off him. Pan-ho runs in and sees Ho-young lying dead on the floor and becomes distraught. The paramedics arrive and take him away.
Chang-hyeok tells the police that he was the one who shot Ho-young when he started threatening the Kim family. At home, Gang-heon comforts his wife. When he goes to see Eun, she passes out from all the stress.
So-young visits Pan-ho at Ho-young’s funeral. She wants to build a case against Woo One but Pan-ho is too distraught. He says that he committed so many wrongs in order to save Ho-young but failed anyway. Later, he takes Ho-young’s ashes to the coast. Eun turns up and asks why he isn’t keeping Ho-young in an ossuary. He says that after all the pain he went through, he wants to let Ho-young rest. He even apologises to Eun for everything.
Pan-ho then gives himself up to the police and confesses to everything. He says no matter what you do, punishment will find you. So-young tells him to do the work of repentance instead and punish Gang-heon.
Outside the interrogation room, Yi-hwa, So-young and Kim Moon-seok discuss how Pan-ho can be used to take Gang-heon down. Moon-seok tells them to train Pan-ho, equating him with a hunting dog.
Back home, Eun tries to commit suicide and is rushed to the hospital. The doctor says that a full recovery is unlikely and her physical condition won’t be the same.
In the final scene, Pan-ho meets Gang-heon by a beach and laments Eun’s sacrifice in all of this. He says that both of them need to repent for their wrongdoings. Gang-heon comments that they are probably meant to be punished this way. He then leaves. Pan-ho stays and looks out at the water at the end of Your Honor Episode 10.
The Episode Review
Episode 10 brings Your Honor to a close and the story reaches a particularly sombre ending. Pan-ho and Gang-heon both face losses and are forced to reckon with the consequences of their actions. The little bit of philosophical musing that happens in this episode is pretty thought-provoking. It’s very poignant how Pan-ho thought his misdeed didn’t matter as long as Ho-young survived but now that he’s dead, those same misdeeds become significant markers of the person he’s become.
Gang-heon, in my opinion, doesn’t get the same level of complexity although Kim Myung-min does a fantastic job, you can see Gang-heon’s dislike for Sang-hyun and concern for Eun simply through his facial expressions. Ho-young meets a tragic end and Kim Do-hoon portrays his pain and agony in a heartrending way, but the narrative makes it clear that he was always headed this way.
All in all, the drama ends the story on a grave but philosophical note. Politics ends up winning the upper hand as the Blue House now plans to use Pan-ho as a hunting dog to bring Woo One down. The fight continues but Pan-ho and Gang-heon have both, been irrevocably changed.
