Episode 6
Episode 6 of Your Honor begins with a discussion between Yo Hwan and Jo Mi-yeon. He convinces her to take on Gang-heon. She then tells So-yeong that it was Gang-heon’s wife, Ma Ji-young, who ordered the fire at Sang-taek’s house. The prosecutor then arrests Ji-young.
Gang-heon is questioning Pan-ho about the photographs when he gets the news. He gets angry but Pan-ho claims to know nothing. Gang-heon threatens him and says he’ll be watching his every move. While interrogating Ji-young, So-yeong shows her a video of Jang Hyeon-soo speaking to her on the phone about setting fire to Sang-taek’s house. The call log shows he was speaking to Ji-young.
While looking for his daughter, Gang-heon finds her hiding in her closet. He promises to bring her mother back soon. Elsewhere, Pan-ho calls Yi-hwan and talks about an idea that could set him free of Gang-heon. Yi-hwan then speaks to Mi-yeon and says that Pan-ho has taken the bait and decided to go to the Blue House. So he was never involved in the plan to get Ji-young arrested?
Later, Pan-ho is with two other judges, deliberating whether So-yeong’s arrest was justified. The others say it wasn’t but Pan-ho asks for more time to think about it. At a meeting with board members, Gang-heon is told that Woo One group is not in great condition. He tells the executives to take pay cuts rather than reduce the salary of powerless employees. After he leaves, he learns that Pan-ho did not approve Ji-young’s release.
Pan-ho goes to a gym but soon finds himself accosted by Chang-hyeok. Pan-ho angrily says that if he let Ji-young out that easily, he would look like he’s favouring Gang-heon. They wouldn’t be able to set Sang-hyuk free then. This seems to pacify Chang-hyeok. He orders Pan-ho to ‘be there’ the next day. Pan-ho meets Gang-heon the next morning and explains the same thing. Gang-heon pulls a gun on him and tells him not to worry about his ego that much.
Later, Pan-ho agrees with the other judges regarding Ji-young. She is set to be released soon. He then goes to the gym and manages to slip out, unseen by Gang-heon’s man who is tailing him. He’s off to meet Yi-hwan.
Gang-heon picks up Ji-young and they go to Sang-hyeon’s resting place. Gang-heon says that killing Sang-taek’s mother and daughter mustn’t have made her feel better. He then warns her not to complicate things further.
Pan-ho goes to meet Yi-hwan and finds Mi-yeon waiting for him. Mi-yeon asks Pan-ho to guarantee Boodu gang’s safety. Pan-ho then asks Mi-yeon to find out if Sang-taek’s son, Cheong-gang, is still alive. Yi-hwan then arrives but he doesn’t realise that someone is following him. Yi-hwan tells Pan-ho that he spoke to the President and Pan-ho is still wanted in the political party. He says Pan-ho will become Chief of Political Affairs.
Chang-hyeok realises what’s happening and rushes to the place where the three are meeting. Luckily, Pan-ho sees his men coming and makes a run for it all the way back to the gym. But when he comes home, he finds Gang-heon waiting for him. He demands to know where Pan-ho has gone.
Suddenly, Ho-young comes home as well. Gang-heon leaves but not before he realises that Pan-ho’s shoes were the same pair outside the place where Yi-hwan and Mi-yeon were meeting (as per a photograph one of his men took).
The next thing we see is Gang-heon’s men starting an all-out war on the Boodu Gang. Mi-yeon only realises when it’s too late. Chang-hyeok even has Yi-hwan roughly beaten up. He later calls Pan-ho, who comes rushing over to the address Chang-hyeok gave. Pan-ho reaches the empty warehouse and finds Yi-hwan bloody and tied up.
In the morning, So-yeong and the other detectives find that men from a different group named Seobu Gang have been arrested for the Boodu Gang massacre. So-yeong knows it was Gang-heon though. Pan-ho meanwhile has taken Yi-hwan to a small hospital to get treated.
Elsewhere, an illegal immigrant’s body is found on the beach. The medical examiner says the body had been kept in a freezer and the time of death is impossible to estimate. The man is none other than Tee Rab. His girlfriend is notified. She says they had planned to go to Egypt and get married there.
At home, Pan-ho wakes up from another nightmare. His frustration grows and hits his refrigerator. He later sees news of Tee Rab and at the same time, Chang-hyeok sends him the video of him shooting Tee Rab at the end of Your Honor Episode 6.
The Episode Review
Your Honor Episode 6 is a bit slow and unnecessarily extends certain scenes, specifically the one where the Boodu Gang comes under attack. But it also takes the web of plotting and backstabbing one step further. Yi-hwan, in particular, comes across as a fascinatingly grey character. We can never be sure if he truly is on Pan-ho’s side or not. The way he tricked Pan-ho into deciding to go with the Blue House idea was a great twist.
Meanwhile, Pan-ho tries to orchestrate everything while avoiding Gang-heon’s goons who are always keeping an eye on him. Seeing him run to and from the gym highlights just how odd it is for a respected judge to be doing all this.
On the whole, Ho-young is oddly absent from the mess he’s got his father into and I hope the future episodes get him more involved. The power struggle in this show is a good watch even if the episodes run slower and longer than they need to.
