Episode 4
Episode 4 of Your Honor begins with Sang-hyuk killing Sang-taek and the other Boodu Gang members. Unbeknownst to him, Cheong-gang records a video of it on his phone. Later, he finds a chequebook for 500 million won in his bag. But he doesn’t want money, he wants revenge.
Pan-ho talks to the anonymous caller. The man works at the car repair shop. He saw Ho-young’s damaged car and even watched Ho-young throw the phone into the lake and then go home. He tells Pan-ho to send him money. Gang-heon, who now fully suspects Pan-ho, can’t understand how somebody so respectful could do this.
The police begin to investigate the massacre at the pier. Mi-yeon learns about it from the news and is furious. Pan-ho asks to meet Chae-rim and learns that Sang-taek is dead. Gang-heon sees the news as well and decides to go meet Mi-yeon.
Pan-ho visits Yi-hwan, totally distraught at the number of lives that are being taken due to this matter. He laments becoming evil but Yi-hwan advises him to stay evil until the end, to protect himself.
Gang-heon meets Mi-yeon. She admits the gang planned to quietly get rid of Sang-taek because he used to do odd jobs for them. Gang-heon doesn’t believe she’s telling the truth. She then brings in a badly beaten Jo Bin, who confesses that Sang-hyuk told him to buy the gun that killed Sang-taek and the others. He also confesses that a man named Hyun-soo, Gang-heon’s wife’s secretary, ordered Jo Bin to set Sang-taek’s house on fire.
Meanwhile, Cheong-gang contacts Chae-rim. He tells her about the video he filmed. Elsewhere, Ho-young is looking up an article about Sang-hyuk being charged with assault. He’s then joined by Eun, who apologises for being late. He asks her what kind of person Sang-hyuk is. She says she feels sorry for him since he lost his mother at a young age.
Chae-rim shows Pan-ho the video of Sang-hyuk killing Sang-taek. She is determined to catch him and refers to an incident from two years ago involving him.
Gang-heon goes to Pan-ho’s house, while the latter and his son are out. He walks through the house and then smokes a cigarette and leaves it on the centre table. Sang-hyuk tries to buy air tickets out of the country but his passport gets flagged. He begins to run. Gang-heon learns about this and tells his secretary to find Sang-hyuk as fast as possible.
Pan-ho visits the auto repair shop owner. He asks if there is a foreigner among the shop staff. The owner mentions a man named Tee Rab and says he quit but might come back for his tools someday. Gang-heon’s men capture Hyun-soo, who had set the fire. When he says that Gang-heon’s wife ordered him to do so, Gang-heon shoots him point blank.
Sang-hyuk, hiding out at a random diner, calls one of his men in the police. He’s the same man who’s working alongside Chae-rim. When he reveals Chae-rim has evidence against him, Sang-hyuk tells him to smuggle him out in exchange for 100 million won.
Pan-ho then goes to a car rental shop and asks for a white car with tinted windows. When he returns home, he finds Gang-heon’s cigarette on the centre table.
While the policeman from earlier is trying to arrange passage for Sang-hyuk, he gets ambushed. It’s none other than Chae-rim, who knew he was working for Woo One all along. She tells him to help them catch Sang-hyuk in exchange for burying his complicity. This is how they catch Sang-hyuk while he’s trying to leave the country via boat. Chae-rim takes Sang-hyuk to a warehouse where she denies him an attorney and shows him the video.
Chae-rim later calls Pan-ho and tells him she’s gotten Sang-hyuk. She’s also hidden Cheong-gang away as a key witness. At the moment, Pan-ho is in his new rented car, watching Tee Rab at the auto repair shop. When Tee Rab leaves, Pan-ho follows him but doesn’t realise Gang-heon’s men are following him as well.
Pan-ho follows Tee Rab to a disused warehouse, which seems to be his makeshift home. Tee Rab catches him snooping and Pan-ho asks him how much money he wants.
He says he wants one billion Won, which Pan-ho obviously can’t afford. This makes Tee Rab angry and he attacks Pan-ho. Pan-ho ends up being saved by none other than Gang-heon’s secretary, who knocks Tee Rab out. Gang-heon himself enters and confronts Pan-ho, who admits to killing Sang-hyeon.
When Gang-heon puts a gun to his head, Pan-ho reveals that Sang-hyuk has been arrested. He offers to save Gang-heon’s only remaining son. Gang-heon is frustrated but doesn’t shoot Pan-ho. He tells Pan-ho to prove himself by shooting Tee Rab dead.
His secretary pulls out his phone to record everything. Pan-ho hesitates but Tee Rab begins to beg for his life. As he starts to mention Ho-young’s name, Pan-ho has no choice. He instantly shoots Tee Rab at the end of Your Honor Episode 4.
The Episode Review
Your Honor Episode 4 feels quick and intense like the show has finally settled into the pace it was aiming for. There is plenty of death, which keeps the stakes high, and plenty of intrigue as well. Ho-young, for example, seems weirdly interested in Sang-hyuk.
And what’s his goal in this relationship with Eun, which he has kept hidden from his father? The confrontation between Gang-heon and Pan-ho was intriguing as well and it will be interesting to watch them, somewhat, work together from the following episode.
What’s great about this episode is seeing Pan-ho go through a transformation of sorts. He starts out lamenting all the death but Yi-hwan’s words advising him to stick to his ‘evil’ side seem to come around towards the end when he takes a life with his own two hands.
The scene is incredibly acted out by Son Hyun-joo, who clearly portrays the shift between Pan-ho’s hesitation to take a life and his instinctive need to protect his son no matter what. This is definitely a turning point that he won’t be able to come back from.
