Episode 2 Recap – The Car is Found

The recap for Your Honor (2024) Episode 2 begins with the accident. After Ho-young flees, he goes to a repair shop to get his flat tire fixed, wearing a hoodie to cover his bloody clothes. But he still has Sang-hyeon’s phone. So he drives to a nearby water body and throws it in. At present, he tells his father everything. Pan-ho goes to the car repair shop and makes up a long story about a cheating girlfriend in order to see the CCTV footage.

Meanwhile, Sang-taek drives Pan-ho’s car. He gets a call from his mother about his sick daughter Cheong-ha. This is the same old lady and the young girl who visited Pan-ho. But Sang-taek says he can’t go home yet.

Pan-ho finds the CCTV footage of Ho-young while the shop owner rambles about the hit-and-run case and how Gang-heon will probably have the culprit killed. Pan-ho’s shaken but deletes the footage. He then goes back in the car and tells Ho-young to work on his facial expressions and behaviour. Nothing should give them away.

We then see Sang-taek storm into a grocery store and yell at his son, who’s working there. They don’t seem on good terms but he gives his son money for Cheong-ha’s treatment. Pan-ho then meets a detective named Jang Chae-rim. Again, he makes up a story about his wife’s old car getting stolen and how Ho-young was unhealthily attached to it. If she finds it, he asks her not to tell anyone but him.

Sang-taek gets a call from the butcher, a man he calls Director Jeong. Jeong orders him to deliver the car quickly. Just then, a police car signals Sang-taek to stop because he ran a red light. At work, Pan-ho’s colleague asks if something is wrong. They’ve noticed that he’s behaving oddly but Pan-ho simply says that he’s growing old.

Meanwhile, the policeman realises the car is stolen and Sang-taek goes on the run. At home, Pan-ho and Ho-young sit down for dinner. Ho-young apologises for causing all this trouble. Just then, the doorbell rings. It’s Detective Jang Chae-rim. She says they’ve found the car.

Pan-ho goes with her and asks to take the car back home. She allows it but then they realise the tire is flat. On further investigation, a part of the motorcycle fender is found stuck in the tire which makes everything a lot more complicated.

Pan-ho talks to Chae-rim and claims the car was missing from the morning of April 8. She insists on talking to Ho-young, as a witness. Pan-ho, Chae-rim and another officer come to Pan-ho’s house. Pan-ho schools Ho-young in what to say and despite a few keen questions from Chae-rim, he does a good job.

Sang-hyeon’s body is cremated and his ashes are put in an urn. Gang-heon also puts a small glass bottle with Sang-hyeon’s baby tooth next to the urn. He had kept the baby tooth all these years because a young Sang-hyeon had presented it as a gift. They head back home and Sang-hyeok tells his father they should take revenge on the perpetrator. Even Gang-heon’s wife tells him to do something. Gang-heon says he’s in too much pain to feel angry.

Sometime later, Gang-heon listens to the phone call recording again. He knows it’s not his son’s breathing on the call but of someone with asthma. He’s then taken to see Pan-ho’s car. One of his men, called Team Leader Bae, takes him through the evidence. He believes Sang-taek, who belongs to Jo Mi-yeon’s gang, is to blame.

Gang-heon asks for all the information on Sang-taek. After Gang-heon leaves, Bae calls Sang-hyuk and gives him an update. Even Sang-hyeon’s mother learns about Sang-taek and is enraged.

Gang-heon meets with Jo Mi-yeon, who has arrived in tow with none other than Jeong, the butcher. Mi-yeon once again claims innocence and says she’ll help find who did this. On the way back, Jeong tells Mi-yeon that Assemblyman Yi Hwa asked them to take care of a car which turned out to be involved in the accident. She’s angry, naturally, and tells him to call Yi Hwa.

Yi Hwa gets the phone call and then rushes to see Pan-ho. He confronts Pan-ho about the car and Pan-ho takes the blame himself. He says he was too scared to turn himself in once he learned it was Gang-heon’s son. Yi Hwa suggests sending Sang-taek overseas so that he can take the blame for it all. Pan-ho asks Yi Hwa to help make that happen.

Later, Pan-ho keeps thinking he’s heard Sang-taek’s name somewhere. He finds it in the case file of Sang-taek’s wife’s death and realises the connection between Cheong-ha and her grandmother. Another colleague comes in and then asks if something is off with Pan-ho. The judge puts it down to age again.

So-young, Sang-hyeon’s sister, brings a photograph to keep by Sang-hyeon’s urn. On her way out of the columbarium, Ho-young sees her crying and offers his handkerchief.

Elsewhere, Pan-ho watches Cheong-ha and her grandmother. He’s in tears, probably thinking about how he’s going to have to send Sang-taek away. But when the old woman switches on the lights in her house, the whole place blows up. Pan-ho rushes to help but the old woman passes out. When he tries to find the little girl, another explosion occurs and throws him back. He looks on in shock and this is where the recap for Your Honor Episode 2 ends.

Episode 2 Review

Your Honor (2024) Episode 2 continues to be a tad slow but on the flip side, it’s building up a nicely convoluted web of the whole situation. More people are involved and have stakes in this case now, which makes it more dangerous for Pan-ho and Ho-young. It’s interesting to see the connection between Yi Hwa and Sang-taek that ultimately leads to Jo Mi-yeon. Although, we don’t really need the camera to focus on a spider web to make this point come through.

The lead actors are doing a great job as well. Pan-ho’s struggle with his ethics and morals really comes through on the screen. What’s more intriguing is watching a figure like Gang-heon grapple with his grief while everybody else is clamouring for revenge. Kim Myung-min gives the chairman a strong and fearsome aura, so much so that it makes me worry for Pan-ho who has spent a lot of time in this episode in tears.
