DIRECTOR – Paul King

Paul King is no stranger to fantastical family movies as he previously delighted audiences with Paddington and Paddington 2. He’s also known in the UK for his work within TV comedy, with directorial credits on The Mighty Boosh, Come Fly With Me, and Little Crackers.

WRITERS – Simon Farnaby and Paul King

Simon Farnaby is most well known for his acting appearances on such TV shows as Ghosts, Detectorists, and Yonderland, but he has several movie acting credits to his name too, including roles in The Phantom of the Open and Paddington 2. Farnaby is also a talented writer, with screenwriting credits on Paddington 2 and Mindhorn.

MAIN CAST

Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka

French-American actor Timothée Chalamet made his feature film debut in 2014’s Men Women, and Children and has had an illustrious movie career ever since. Interstellar, Call Me By Your Name, and Dune are just some of the critically acclaimed movies that you will recognize him from.

Chalamet takes the title role of young Willy Wonka in the upcoming movie, which is set during the period before the aspiring chocolatier opened his legendary chocolate factory.

Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa

It was Four Weddings And A Funeral that pushed British actor Hugh Grant into the spotlight but he starred in several movies before that comedy classic, with roles in such films as Maurice, White Mischief, and The Lair Of The White Worm. He has often been typecast as a bumbling posh twit but in recent years he has broken out of that mould thanks to villainous turns in The Gentlemen and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Grant will take on the role of an orange-faced Oompa-Loompa in the new movie, so expect to find out more about this character’s origin as the tale unfolds.

Sally Hawkins as Willy’s Mother

Academy-award nominated actress Sally Hawkins is most well-known for her British movie and TV work, with roles in Paddington, The Hollow Crown, and Maudie. She has also starred in such blockbuster movies as Godzilla and Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, as well as Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water.

Hawkins plays Willy Wonka’s mom in the upcoming movie, a character that will no doubt have a lot of influence on the person that Wonka turns out to be.

Olivia Colman as Mrs Scrubbit

Olivia Colman began her career in TV comedy but has since become one of the most beloved British actresses of all time. Her acting highlights include roles in The Crown, Mothering Sunday, Empire of Light, and the recent Marvel series Secret Invasion.

In Wonka, Colman stars as Mrs Scrubbit, a character that we know very little about but who looks more than a little miserable in the movie’s trailer.

Rowan Atkinson as Father Julius

Rubber-faced comedy actor Rowan Atkinson is most well-known for his roles as Mr Bean, Blackadder, and Johnny English. But in his long and varied career, he has popped up in a wide range of other television shows and movies, including Not The Nine O’Clock News, The Thin Red Line, and Love Actually.

In Wonka, Atkinson will star as Father Julius. We don’t know much about this priest character but with Atkinson in the role, you can expect him to be hilarious.
