Episode 7

Episode 7 of Wonderful World starts with a flashback from the night Hyung-ja started the fire that led to the death of the little boy’s parents. The little boy grows up to be Min-hyuk who wakes up in the hospital bed where Seon-yul meets him. Seon-yul hands over Hyung-ja’s diary to Min-hyuk and the latter reads the letter addressed to him from her.

Min-hyuk is upset with Seon-yul for bringing him the diary. He lashes out at Seon-yul and asks who he is. Seon-yul ignores Min-hyuk’s question and goes to prepare for his discharge from the hospital. On his way out, Seon-yul meets his mother Eu-min. A flashback shows Seon-yul struggling on the night of his father’s funeral due to the negative media attention around him.

Seon-yul also suffers bullying for years as people around him call him the son of a murderer. Present-day Seon-yul tells Eun-min that he is soon going to end everything. Meanwhile, Soo-hyun meets Professor Kim Si-ra one day and the two discuss the diary and Seon-yul. Soo-hyun goes back home after dinner and thinks about all the information regarding Seon-yul and wonders what Kim Si-ra’s connection to him is. Seon-yul, on the other hand, goes to meet Si-ra.

That night, Soo-hyun reads a text from Seon-yul and talks to Soo-ho about him. Soo-ho asks Soo-hyun to stop worrying about the boy now as she knows nothing about the life he has lived.

That day, Soo-jin meets Eun-min in her hospital. She accidentally runs into Tae-ho and the two catch up. She offers him some food and leaves. Tae-ho wonders if Soo-jin has feelings for her and texts her a photo of himself. Soo-jin texts Seon-yul to tell him that Tae-ho was falling for her right as per their plan. Meanwhile, Soo-ho meets Han-sang who shows him a photo of Seon-yul and Kim Joon’s secretary.

Soo-ho asks Han-sang if Seon-yul is the man who sent the photo of him and Hye-geum to Soo-hyun. Seon-yul follows Han-sang and Soo-ho and takes photos of the two together. That evening, Seong-yul meets Kim Joon’s secretary and hands her a flash drive with some information on Soo-ho in exchange for a lot of cash.

The secretary wonders why Seon-yul needed so much cash but he does not respond to her. He gives the money to Min-hyuk and asks him to give it to the casino owner who is after him. That day, Soo-hyun visits the graveyard and the grave of the boy’s parents who died in the fire and wonders if Seon-yul is the same boy.

Just then, Seon-yul calls Soo-hyun and asks if she wants to meet him for a meal. He calls her to her mother’s restaurant and she panics. Seon-yul pays Go-eun for the meal and leaves after a while. After a busy public event, Kim Joon goes to his local favourite restaurant for a meal and invites Soo-ho there.  Kim Joon asks Soo-ho to join his team and work for him. Soo-ho declines the offer and leaves.

Kim Joon warns Soo-ho stating that he would soon come back to see him. After Soo-ho has left, his secretary shows Kim Joon a photo of Soo-ho and Han-sung together. A flashback shows Soo-ho talking to Han-sang about the fact that Kim Joon was the reason his life was ruined all those years ago.

Soo-ho promises to go all the way to make Kim Joon pay for his crimes. He reveals to Han-sung that Kim Joon has an illegitimate child and wonders if his mistress has been laundering funds for the politician. Han-sung is shocked by the revelation and wonders if Soo-ho has any proof of this. Soo-ho promises to find the information he needs on Kim Joon.

Back to the present day, Soo-ho spots Seon-yul going inside the restaurant to meet Kim Joon and recognises him from the photo Han-sung showed him. Inside the restaurant, Kim Joon is shocked to see Seon-yul. Another flashback shows Kim Joon visiting Seon-yul and Eun-min after Ji-woong’s death where he promised to take care of Seon-yul.

Back to the present day, Kim Joon asks Seon-yul not to waste his life away and asks him to go back to medical school. Kim Joon tells Seon-yul that his father died in vain and he did not want another life to be wasted away. He promises to help Seon-yul find justice for his parents’ fate once he becomes President. That evening, Soo-hyun shows up at the junkyard to meet Seon-yul but does not find him there.

Seon-yul arrives there later and the two have a cryptic conversation. Soo-hyun tells Seon-yul that she will contact him soon and leaves. That night, Yu-ri is in her shop, thinking about her last conversation with Soo-ho. That night, Soo-hyun meets Yu-ri at her mother’s restaurant and checks up on Go-eun. The three have dinner together and Soo-ho joins them.

There is an awkward tension between Soo-ho and Yu-ri which Soo-hyun senses. She asks why the two were acting strange and Yu-ri confesses how she scolded Soo-ho for cheating on her. Soo-hyun apologises to Soo-ho on Yu-ri’s behalf and the four continue to have dinner. That night, Soo-hyun hugs Soo-ho in their house. However, in her study, she wonders why the person who sent her the photo sent it without showing Hye-geum’s face.

The next day, Si-ra shows up to see Soo-jin and tells her that Seon-yul had met her to discuss the fire. Soo-jin wonders why Seon-yul was meddling in the issue and why he was so interested in Soo-hyun. Soo-jin claims that Soo-hyun was an evil woman to Seon-yul and was the same to her. Reporter Jeong asks Soo-hyun to get in touch with the detective on Eun-min’s case.

Soo-hyun asks the cop about Eun-min’s son and finds relevant information on him online. Soo-hyun finds an online petition from Eun-min’s son wherein he reveals that he is a fellow med student. Soo-hyun recalls how Seon-yul had tried to resuscitate Eun-min in the hospital and concludes that Seon-yul could very well be Ji-woong and Eun-min’s son.

Soo-hyun calls Tae-ho to meet her for a snack and asks him about Eun-min. She learns that Eun-min’s son was a junior of Tae-ho. Later that day, Soo-hyun invites Seon-yul to meet her. Seon-yul gets ready to leave and thinks back on Soo-hyun’s trial for killing his father. He recalls hearing Soo-hyun saying that she was not guilty of killing Ji-woong.

Seon-yul also recalls seeing Soo-hyun in prison for all those years and how he planned everything leading up to the present day, including Soo-hyun’s friendship with Hyun-ja in prison. A flashback shows Soo-jin asking Seon-yul why he was so adamant about getting close to Soo-hyun. Seon-yul states that to cause the most harm to her, he needed to become precious to Soo-hyun as well.

In the present, Seon-yul shows up at the restaurant to meet Soo-hyun. The episode ends with Soo-hyun thinking to herself how she knows Seon-yul was Eun-min and Ji-woong’s son.

The Episode Review

While there’s not much that happened in this episode, it is clear that Soo-jin has feelings for Seon-yul and will go to any extent to help him. I feel bad for Tae-ho who seems to like Soo-jin without knowing he’s just a pawn in Seon-yul’s plan. It also seems absurd that a young boy like Seon-yul planned everything, including the fact that Hyun-ja and Soo-hyun would end up as cellmates in prison. 

From the looks of it, Yu-ri and Soo-ho are hiding a secret and she is likely the woman from the photo. I wonder if Soo-ho asked Hye-geum to lie to Soo-hyun as a way to hide the fact that he was having an affair with Soo-hyun’s adoptive sister. With all things considered, the dynamics of relationships in this show are going to get twisted in the episodes to come.
