Alma
In this recap for Women in Blue, episode 4 starts with Gerardo receiving a late-night call, informing him that another woman has been discovered in the sewers. He rushes to the scene and realises the woman is miraculously still alive. Based on the scene and how the woman was found, Gerardo starts making assumptions that it might be a copycat killer. Of course, he refuses to acknowledge that he arrested the wrong guy and The Undresser is still out there.
They rush the woman to the hospital and the doctor reveals that she survived because she had a tumor on her neck. The doctor asks Gerardo to wait until the woman is out of surgery to question her. Gerardo turns his attention to the victim’s friend. The victim is identified as Alma, the woman who works at the shoe store. Her friend gets overwhelmed as Gerardo intensely questions her. She, however, mentions the rich man who kept harassing Alma. Unfortunately, she is too stressed to remember his name or give a clear description.
Gerardo is also frustrated when Lucas shows up at the hospital asking questions about the new case. Gerardo refuses to give him any information on the case, but Lucas doesn’t give up. He talks to Valentina, and she begs him to keep looking into the case. She is sure the police got the wrong guy, but she is in no position to speak up. Even though the two are working together, Lucas is crystal clear that he is romantically done with Valentina. If anything, he wishes she would stop seeking him out.
Meanwhile, Maria tries to make up with Aldo and tell him about her struggles at work. Unfortunately, Aldo ignores her and goes back to sleep. The next morning, Maria visits Jessica and shows her a few pictures of cars with white hoods. She takes the picture that Jessica identifies to Romandia and he dismisses her efforts. He says that it is all a coincidence even after she mentions going to Norma’s funeral and seeing a similar car. He asks her to stick to her job. He also orders her to work overtime since she was late.
This poses a problem for Maria, as Aldo calls later to lash out about not getting promoted. He blames Maria for losing the opportunity and asks her to attend the party to honour the new boss. Maria apologises and tries to explain that she needs to work overtime, but Aldo refuses to understand. At the office, his mistress shows up and tries to convince him to get back together.
Meanwhile, Gabina sneaks Alma’s case files from Gerardo’s office for the ladies to make a copy. They go through the files and decide to reach out to Alma’s friend. However, even though Gabina is helping the women, she is scared to hurt her brother, especially since he is already seeing her as an enemy and asking her to reconsider her loyalties.
The women set out to talk to Bertha, who tells them about the rich man and finds the card he left for Alma. Maria takes down his details and decides to stalk him. Meanwhile, the other women encourage Berth to make a report and give the card to the police. Gerardo and his team are happy to get a break in the case and move to arrest.
Things were already looking bleak after the lab results came back and revealed that the rope was the same one used on the other Undresser victims. It is a homemade rope, so there is only one of its kind. In other words, Gerardo realises he can’t deny that he got the wrong guy. Nonetheless, he is not willing to report his mistake. On the other hand, Domingo quickly spots Maria and bashes the front windows of her car. He warns her to stop following him. Luckily, he fails to recognise she is a police officer.
Maria calls Valentina to pick her up and shares her frustration with Aldo. As expected, Valentina thinks Aldo is being selfish, but still supports Maria’s decision to stay married. She helps Maria get ready for the party since Angeles offers to cover for Maria at work. At the party, Maria arrives late and is unable to find Aldo. She calls her mom and is surprised that Aldo is not at home, either. She decides to return to the office and get some work done before heading home. She finds that Angeles is done and hanging out with one of Gabina’s brothers. He has a crush on Angeles. He waits for her to be done and escorts her home.
Elsewhere, Valentina and Gabina head out for a few drinks and a good time. Sadly, a man sexually harasses Gabina and the two women are forced to leave. Another man steps up and helps Gabina before Valentina arrives. He seems quite taken with her, but she fails to thank him for taking a punch to his face for her sake.
In the meantime, the police arrest Domingo and bring him in for Jessica. Jessica, who was at the police station to talk about the car she saw, overhears the arrest and lashes out at Domingo. The police pull her back and try to calm her down. Gerardo takes over the interrogation, set to make Domingo talk. However, Domingo acts nonchalantly and denies the allegation. He provides an alibi, which is quickly verified. It turns out that he is the son of a powerful judge and has been getting away with crimes such as rape and sexual harassment. Sadly, Gerardo is forced to release him, but he lets it slip that Alma is still alive. He warns Domingo that Alma will identify him soon enough.
The episode ends with Maria still working at the station before calling it a night. She receives a call and the man on the other end identifies himself as The Undresser.
The Episode Review
Another remarkable and intriguing episode from this thriller show. Once again, the women try to fight against the toxic masculinity culture and patriarchy at work to find justice. This time, they have learned how to find the evidence and get it to Gerardo without getting into trouble. However, Maria took an unnecessary risk by following Domingo by herself. It is a good thing Valentina called her out for that.
Speaking of Valentina, she continues to be one of my favorite characters in the show. She is a vibe and I hope she will get over Lucas soon. It is ironic that she dishes great relationship advice to her sister but fails to see her own struggles. Lucas has rightfully moved on and she should, too. She is also a great friend to Gabina and it will be nice to see them get closer.
On the other hand, Gabina is finally letting her wings lose. She is finding her strength and doing a good job standing for herself. The scene of her dancing at the club makes us feel like she is enjoying her taste of freedom. Even though she is torn between her career and family, she delicately tries to balance it all. However, as Valentina pointed out, she will need to face the truth about the men in her life, eventually. Her dad and brother are not the saints she thought them to be.
Lastly, Angeles is also coming into her own. She is trying to be a good friend and doing a good job at it. I love that she might get romantically involved with one of Gabina’s brothers. He is the good one from the lot and they make an adorable couple. Grandma would be pleased to meet him and fingers crossed he treats her right.
As for Gerardo, he should check his ego. Sofi has already confirmed that Alma is the latest Undresser victim, but Gerardo refuses to admit his mistake. He is even having the women start doubting themselves, talking about a copycat. He also made a grave mistake telling Domingo that Alma is alive. It is also infuriating how Domingo gets away with his crimes because he is the son of an influential judge. Meanwhile, Tito was tortured and killed, his reputation forever damned. The elitists get away with their crimes when the poor die an innocent death. How sickening is this?
