Will Trent – Season 1 Episode 10 “ Pterodactyls Can Fly” Recap & Review

Pterodactyls Can Fly

Episode 10 of Will Trent starts with a massacre happening at a trailer park. Trent and the sheriffs arrive at the scene and discover something is off. Before he can fully assess the scene, a man starts shooting at them. This forces them to open fire too and take out the shooter

Elsewhere, Faith meets with Franklin who advises her to talk to somebody about what went down with Officer O’Hara. Faith pretends she is fine and heads home. Her mom, Evelyn visits her and finds the house to be a complete mess. Faith is not exactly pleased to see her mom and wants to be left alone to wallow while watching TV. Unfortunately for her, Evelyn has no plans to leave just yet.

Back at the crime scene, Trent discovers a little boy hiding. It seems like Theo witnessed the whole thing but he is terrified. Later, Trent receives a call from Faith asking about the case. He quickly briefs her on the history of the men killed and they believe that the killing was part of a drug war. The only problem is that they are yet to find the drugs and the only witness is a little boy who is not talking.  They also don’t know who the kid belongs to or his name. Evelyn overhears the call and tries to help but Faith shuts her down.

In the meantime, Trent tries to bong with the little boy who he names Scoot. He uses food to get Scoot to tell him what happened. Through this, he learns that there was a third man present at the shooting.  He asks Amanda to watch Scoot while he interrogates a known associate of one of their victims. The man doesn’t reveal much to help with the case. Trent doesn’t believe the man but there is not much he can do.

He returns to Scoot and finds an officer from Child Protective Services. Trent refuses to let Scoot go to a temporary foster home and takes him home instead.  Scoot finally feels comfortable enough to talk and asks Trent to tell him a bedtime story. Trent also asks about his mom and Scoot says she had to go away but will be coming back. He also tells Trent his mom’s name and his name as well.

Later in the night, Trent calls Angie to check in on her and tell her about Theo aka Scoot. Angie has been MIA lately and even Ormewood is finding it odd. He finally sees Angie and asks her what is going on. Angie tells him about Lenny’s new family and her suspicions that he will hurt his new stepdaughter.

The next morning, Evelyn prepares breakfast for Faith and tries to help her by taking her to the office.  At the office, Trent and Theo are looking sharp with their matching suits ready to break the case. Evelyn tries to be cordial with Trent ( they have bad blood between them). Faith updates Trent on the financial records of their victims and it looks like they came into a lot of money two days before the attack.

In the meantime, Evelyn visits Amanda and confronts her about her betrayal. She feels slighted because Amanda led the investigation into her department. Evelyn had initially contacted Amanda to help her sniff out the trouble but Amanda didn’t give her a heads-up when things went down. Even though Evelyn was clean, she still lost her job and it hurt her.

Amanda’s secretary interrupts their fight and informs them that they have located Theo’s grandmother. Trent interviews the lady and promises to drop Theo off after Child Services run a background check on the lady.

Later, Faith informs Trent that the shooter that tried to kill them is awake from surgery and they head to the hospital. Evelyn decides to come along, much to Faith’s chagrin. The shooter leads them to a man named Johnny Cash. Trent asks Evelyn to cut out the judgmental remarks if they will be working the case together, as they still need to find the drugs.

On the other side of town, Angie and Ormewood decide to look further into Lenny. This leads to Angie contacting his stepdaughter, Crystal at school and tries to explain that Lenny is bad news. Crystal doesn’t believe her and finds the whole situation uncomfortable. Angie leaves her with her card and asks her to call if she is ever in danger.

This proves to be a problem when Lenny’s fiancee shows up at the police station and calls out Angie. Things heat up between the two ladies and Franklin is forced to step in. Franklin asks Angie to speak to Trent and find another way to deal with Lenny.  Angie refuses to take his suggestion, and Franklin warns her that if she goes on like this, she might lose her career.

Unfortunately, Angie ignores his advice and continues to stalk Lenny. Lenny confronts her and shows his true self. He has no remorse for what he did to her. Angie warns him and tells him that sooner or later she will kill him. She also goes to a drug dealer to get drugs.

Later, Trent drives Theo to his grandmother’s store while Faith reviews surveillance footage at the minimart near the crime scene. At the store, the grandma introduces Trent and Theo to the other family members. Theo immediately recognizes Deacon, his uncle, as the man who was at the shooting.

Trent notices Theo is nervous and pretends to take him to the toilet. Theo confirms that  Deacon is the alleged Johhny Cash.  Trent immediately calls for backup and hides Theo and Betty.

Concurrently, Theo’s frantic mom shows up at the station and  Faith tries to calm her down. The lady is shocked to hear that the Grandma came looking for Theo. It turns out she has been trying for a long time to get custody of Theo and lied to the police.

At the store, Deacon, his brother and their mom turn against Trent. The grandma killed the family to get custody of Theo. Trent tries to save Theo and manages to take out all three of them.

With the case solved, Trent says goodbye to Theo and sends him back with his mom. Meanwhile, Faith has a breakdown but luckily her mom is there for her.

The Episode Review

This Angie problem is giving me anxiety and I am afraid she is going down a dark path that will have no redemption. I know Lenny is a despicable man and deserves to be punished but that is not Angie’s job. She is ignoring her responsibility and is now buying drugs. What is she planning to do?

I just pray that she is not going to get high and attack, Lenny. This revenge course she is on will prove to be more detrimental to her and it won’t be worth it. She will lose everything because of a scumbag like Lenny and it is so infuriating to watch.

I am glad that Evelyn was on standby for Faith throughout this episode. She is a good mom and Faith should cut her some slack. I like Evelyn’s character and hope we will be seeing more of her.

Lastly, Trent and Theo make the most adorable duo in this episode. Seeing Trent with Theo is moving because even after everything Trent has been through, he still has so much love to give. I hope we will get to see him as a father, he will make an amazing dad.
