What happened in Episode 5?
Max and Ellis become embroiled in a mess involving the local mob in Episode 5. Ellis is called upon by Rachel Ciscio, who is not only a federal agent but also his ex-fiance. She was supposed to babysit one of the State’s key witnesses, Albert Ripley, for the important trial the next day. However, a professional crew kidnapped him on the day before. The entire episode is set on this day.
Ripley was an accountant for the mob but turned himself in six months ago. Ellis and Max agree to help him. They go straight to George, Max’s father, for guidance. He sends them toward Cassandra, aka The Fortune Teller, an old friend who is an expert at assembling competent hit teams. Cassandra is receptive given her personal history with George and his wife. She helps the trio nab Bobby Za, one of the hired guns for the job.
Za points the trio in the direction of The Florist, who ran a passport forgery in his back office. The trio finds him dead at the shop. He was slated to deliver a bouquet for Maya at the Westbrook Bank. Maya turns out to be Albert’s love interest. Albert is all set to leave the country and wants to bid her farewell but is caught by Max at the bank.
As they are leaving with Albert in their custody, Charles, his former bodyguard tries to kill him. They make it out safely to one of Max’s safehouses. It is there that Ellis and Rachel reignite old flares and Max strikes up a business deal with Albert. In exchange for a flash drive that has sensitive info about the mob, Albert gains his freedom.
He is kidnapped by Charles who later tries to negotiate a bargain with the trio the next day. However, Albert jumps into the ravine below the bridge where the exchange is taking place, disappearing into thin air. Max helps him get away and finally gets her hands on the drive. Ellis gets a proposition from Rachel after the case is solved to start afresh in another city. During the same evening, Ellis shares a brief moment of desire with Max, putting him in a tough spot.
