Who is She – K-drama Episode 5 Recap & Review

Episode 5

Episode 5 of Who Is She begins in a bar where the supernatural taxi driver refuses to let an old man choose again as “Don’t Turn Back” plays in the background.

In the present, Mal-soon, now known as Oh Du-ri, comes face-to-face with a woman presumed to be the real Emily. Taking her outside the house to talk, Du-ri learns that this woman is her twin sister. Just as she’s about to reveal something crucial, the taxi driver intervenes, reminding Emily she’s forbidden from speaking about it. She hurriedly leaves, leaving Du-ri confused. Through Emily’s conversation with the taxi driver, we discover that she’s one of the people who returned to their youth.

Meanwhile, Du-ri has forcefully negotiated with Daniel to let her stay at her family’s house for 10 days. Elsewhere, Ha-na recalls how her grandmother failed to recognize her, leading both Ha-na and Mal-soon’s family to question whether Mal-soon might have dementia.

When Du-ri arrives late to practice, she’s banned from joining the others until debut. Shortly after, Ae-sim treats the debut group and their team to dinner, where Du-ri stirs up trouble by deliberately provoking her. A flashback reveals Ae-sim had debuted with one of Mal-soon’s songs, betraying her trust—something Mal-soon had found out from an acquaintance.

Since Du-ri is barred from official practice, she trains on her own. Meanwhile, Daniel discovers evidence that someone had been inside his house just as he receives another message from his stalker.

The next day, neighborhood gossip about Mal-soon reaches her supposed twin sister, who listens intently. Claiming to have lost her memory in an accident, the sister approaches someone sympathetic to Mal-soon and learns her entire life story.

Elsewhere, one of the debut team members sabotages Du-ri again, ensuring she’s late for an interim check. The same member also records a video of Du-ri with Mr. Park. During the meeting, it’s revealed that Mal-soon had a sister, Kkeut-soon, who left for the States at a young age and never contacted Mal-soon again.

As expected, Du-ri arrives late for the interim check. At the same time, Daniel receives the incriminating video of Du-ri and Mr. Park from Ae-sim. Overhearing Du-ri discussing withdrawing Mal-soon’s money with Mr. Park, Daniel assumes she’s involved in a scandalous relationship and fires her from the group.

The Episode Review

This episode delivered an expected yet impactful twist! Rather than sticking to the predictable body-swap trope, which might have felt overdone, Who Is She is shaping up to be refreshingly different. The introduction of Kkeut-soon—who we know as Emily—adds layers of complexity to the narrative, and it’s all for the better.

The supernatural element, with the taxi driver granting old people a second chance at their youth, is both intriguing and unique. It gives the story an emotional depth reminiscent of Before the Coffee Gets Cold, offering a delightful and refreshing spin on K-pop-themed K-dramas.

Overall, this episode marks a turning point for the series, introducing new twists and enriching the plot with interesting elements. Who Is She continues to evolve for the better, and it’s becoming all the more engaging!
