Episode 2
Episode 2 of Who Is She picks up right where the first episode left off, with Mal-soon stepping out into the world in her younger body. Looking strikingly similar to Emily but dressed in her grandmotherly clothes, she earns a few laughs along the way. During her outing, she encounters Gab-young’s son, a habitual drunkard, who seems to recognize her, though Mal-soon quickly realizes he’s only rambling gibberish.
She then makes a pit stop to secretly check on her restaurant. Displeased with the subpar quality of the food, she scolds the brothers running it and continues on her way.
Meanwhile, Daniel is still searching for Emily, the singer from the U.S. whom he personally selected for his girl group. Elsewhere, an older woman who resembles Mal-soon is seen dining with the mysterious “man in the yellow shirt.”
Later, Mal-soon stumbles upon Royal Salon, a bar where she once worked and had fond memories of singing for university students who frequented the place. It was here that she learned to play the guitar with the help of a male student. Upon entering, she discovers the bar has been modernized and is surprised to see Ha-na performing as an artist. As Ha-na leaves, Mal-soon introduces herself as the granddaughter of Ha-na’s grandmother’s countryside friend.
Meanwhile, Ji-sook gets promoted from team leader to director, though the role comes with the caveat of being a contract position. Despite this, she is thrilled and feels genuinely happy for the first time in a long while.
On the other hand, Mal-soon agrees to a discount at a store in exchange for allowing them to post her picture on social media. This leads Daniel to track her down, mistaking her for Emily. While Mal-soon sings her heart out with Ha-na at a karaoke bar, Daniel confronts her. After they part ways, Mal-soon stops at a nearby grocery store to buy a sanitary napkin, where she runs into Daniel again.
Mistaking him for a pervert, she tries to brush him off until Daniel shows her a recording of Emily Bennet’s audition. Believing Emily has lost her memory, Daniel gives Mal-soon his business card and leaves.
When Mal-soon returns home, she sees Ji-sook’s happiness and overhears her daughter expressing confidence that Mal-soon will eventually come back. This prompts Mal-soon to approach Daniel and agree to join the girl group.
Meanwhile, Ha-na arrives at UNIS for her audition and encounters someone who looks like the older Mal-soon. Soon after, the younger Mal-soon in Emily’s body meets what appears to be Emily in the older Mal-soon’s body.
The Episode Review
Episode 2 of Who Is She delivers another entertaining instalment, following Mal-soon as she navigates the city in her unfamiliar younger body. Jung Ji-so, though occasionally a bit over-the-top in terms of her performance, captures the nuances of playing an elderly soul trapped in a youthful body with great comedic flair. Her loud and exaggerated reactions add a layer of humor, making it one of the show’s endearing charms.
This episode introduces intriguing developments, hinting at a possible body swap between Mal-soon and Emily. There also seems to be a deeper connection between the two, especially given their identical appearances in their younger personas. As Mal-soon embarks on her journey with only three months to master the entertainment industry, the series promises to be an exciting and enjoyable ride, perfectly suited for its genre.
