Who is Sanjeev Khanna?
Sanjeev Khanna is the first husband (second known partner) of Indrani Mukerjea, an HR Consultant and media executive who is accused of killing her daughter – Sheena Bora. In the Netflix Documentary – The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth, Indrani reveals to have fallen pregnant with Sheena Bora after her step-father raped her at the age of 16.
Indrani left Sheena with her mother and stepfather and moved to Shillong to pursue her higher studies. There, she met Siddhartha Das, her long-time partner with whom she had her second child – Mekhail Bora. In 1990, Indrani left both Sheena and Mekhail’s children under the care of her parents in Guwahati and moved to Kolkata.
A few months after her move to Kolkata, she met Sanjeev Khanna and married him in 1993. Together, Sanjeev Khanna and Indrani Mukerjea (then Indrani Bora) had a daughter named Vidhie in 1997. In 2001, Indrani split from Sanjeev and moved to Mumbai with Vidhie.
In 2002, Indrani met Peter Mukerjea and moved in with him while awaiting her divorce from Sanjeev Khanna. In 2002, Indrani married Peter Mukerjea after which Peter adopted Vidhie and she took the Mukerjea last name like her mother.
How did Sanjeev Khanna help Indrani Mukerjea in Sheena Bora’s murder?
Reports from the Sheena Bora Murder Case state that Indrani’s driver, Shyamvar Pinturam Rai and her ex-husband helped Indrani strangulate Sheena Bora. After driver Shyamvar was arrested for the possession of illegal weapons, he allegedly revealed details of Sheena’s murder after his arrest.
According to Shyamvar’s alleged testimony, Indrani had planned Sheena’s murder and discussed it with her ex-husband, Sanjeev Khanna. Moreover, Indrani had also surveyed a likely area to dump the body. On the day of Sheena’s disappearance, April 24, 2012, Sanjeev had flown to Mumbai from Kolkata and had checked into a hotel.
It was also alleged that Indrani had visited Sanjeev’s hotel room to strategize the murder together. Later that evening, Indrani, Sanjeev, and driver Rai picked Sheena up in a car rented out by Indrani. The trio drove off with Sheena sitting in the rear seat with Sanjeev beside her while Indrani sat in the passenger seat.
The police alleged that driver Rai testified that Sanjeev strangled Sheena inside the car. The police also allege that Sheena’s body was taken to Indrani’s house where it was put in a bag and stuffed in the trunk of the car. In the early hours of 25th April 2012, the three accused drove to a village in Raigad, Maharashtra with Sheena’s body propped up and seated inside the car to avoid police speculation.
In the early hours of 24th August 2012, the trio dragged Sheena’s body out of the car to an isolated spot in the forest and burned it after stuffing it back into the bag. After the body was completely burnt, the three returned to Mumbai.
Where is Sanjeev Khanna now?
On 26th August 2015, Sanjeev Khanna was arrested in Kolkata and charged with kidnapping, murder, causing the disappearance of evidence and conspiracy. It was alleged that both Sanjeev and Indrani’s driver, Shyamvar Pinturam Rai had confessed to the offences in police custody.
As of June 21, 2022, Sanjeev was granted bail but reports from July 2023 claim that Sanjeev’s plea to attend trial from Kolkata was rejected. The trial for Sheena Bora Case is ongoing with 237 prosecution witnesses and 185 defence witnesses still to be examined.

People like indrani and Sanjeev need to be publicly HUNG for the crime committed by them.. there’s no doubt about this….
Some kids like Sheena & Mikhail are unfortunate to have a mother like Indrani. She didn’t look back at the innocent, helpless kids for 15 years. Even then , brought them into her life with conditions. Poor kids ! Later when her daughter finally found happiness , her mother went on to silence her.
Now she goes around free& our society is still not done glorifying her!! Shocking & sad!
